Haaland fouls player before the ball is kicked, VAR = reverse…

2nd call was probably correct,

The problem with football is that in each and every game, refs would rather die than not call an offensive foul (like Haaland's), but when a Norwegian was about to head a rebound into an open net but got pushed, then nothing!

For all fouls, offensive, defensive, wherever it is on the pitch, I would like the refs to ask themselves: "Would I call a penalty for this? Of not, then play on!"

And as the ref proved in the rebound situation, he would NOT call a penalty for a push, so why call a foul on Haaland?

(For the record, both were fouls in my book. So no goal when Haaland pushed, but a penalty when the rebounder got pushed)

I gotta say, regardless of all problems with VAR (hair induced offsides etc), I must say I absolutely love it! So satisfying to see the smurk wiped off the face of that cheater when the penalty got revoked!

Curious just how much Argentina is going to get away with. Seems they disrupt any Swiss momentum with a blatant foul or fake injury.. SMH.

Should be a foul on Argentina. No cards either way.

Shit's rigged.
I can see it was a fall before the contact, but I mean shit - Argentina has gotten away with so many fouls already.

Argentina gamesmanship is off the charts which I’m sure is frustrating the Swiss team. Same bullshit they did and got away with vs ND the last World Cup.

i'm a casual fan and i don't give a shit who wins, i just want to see a good game. i applaud there being punishment for blatant diving. if he didn't make the "oh god he hurt my ankle so bad" face, i might have let it slide (i assume they take that into account in the VAR). i find it bizarre the announcers think the call was too harsh just because he already had a previous yellow.

I agree, I hate diving. This is more of a dig on the Ref for letting Argentina get away with essentially breaking any Swiss momentum with obvious intentional fouls - a couple of which I’d argue should’ve been yellows.

The dive was a dive, but it was gamesmanship countering Argentina’s gamesmanship IMHO. Unfortunately, it plays to Argentina’s advantage if they can frustrate the other side and get away with it and the other side gets called…..

Is it the most scandalous world cup ever already?!
Definitaly yes - and it‘s not over yet…

Let alone $8.50 for a bottle of water.
WTF?!

Hard to believe people still buy things at stadiums. If I ever go I only get 1 beer and maybe a hotdog.

$15 USD for a bottle of coke? $25 for a beer? You are paying the price of a case for 1 beer…it’s so fucked

The prices were so ridiculous I think it may be the first time I’ve not had a beer at a match. Is this what people are paying at NFL games?
Depends on the stadium/onwers.

I’ve seen some that offer reasonable prices, similar to how the Masters operates, but most just need those sweet, sweet dollars…

Saw a better angle of the VAR cards for simulation. Embolo jumped anticipating contact before it came. Right call. I retract my post from yesterday when I saw it live.

They were charging $12 for a one-liter bottle of water, and Atlanta is supposedly cheaper if you are following the path to final.

Do people seriously have nothing better to do than hate on Argentina? There’s a lot of that going on around here from people who clearly don’t understand the rules or aren’t even watching the matches, just cherry-picked anti-Messi reels.

Yes, Argentina has been playing like shit, but their opponents keep making costly mistakes. Claiming the entire tournament has already been rigged for Argentina is ridiculous. It’s just dumb, sore-loser mentality.

I was wrong about last night's VAR, already edited the last post you reacted to.

The Messi stomp against Algeria with no VAR review is pretty damning when other calls missed live against the US and Mexico were later reviewed and turned into straight reds, which is exactly what VAR isn't supposed to be used for. It gives a "rules for thee but not for me" message.

I know you have a rooting interest for Argentina and you're passionately defending them. I have no rooting interest. Just calling things as I think I see them.

100% agreed. But just to be fair, it's not only against Argentina, it was against the US and England as well, for the same reasons you mentioned above. It's sad but that's the world we live in now. I won't go further on that...

I rather focus on the above, which I don't agree completely, only partially.

The team was put together to cater to Messi, that's clear. The mid-field the last couple of games was composed of FOUR defensive mid-fielders, LOL! Paredes, MacAllister, Fernadez and De Paul are all better at defending than attacking. Yes, I know they all can play a little more forward, like Enzo sometimes does for Chelsea and MacAllister for Liverpool, however their DNA is defending.

So that leaves Messi without any defensive responsibilities but also without any real creative help from the mid-field. He could have had more help from either Alvarez or L. Martinez but, imo, they are not having a good Copa. Yes, they scored but the their help hasn't been great. I like the team a little better with Almada (the first three games, but I could be wrong). Tough choice which of the four to push out. Scalonni left Paredes out but he's been great the last couple of games. Purely based on performance, I think I'll take Fernandez out, and I'm a fan of his...

I think that's the source of the issues Argentina has been facing, especially when ahead on the score. They come back to their defensive posture.

It happened several times now on 2026 and also in 2022 against The Netherlands and in the final against France, they scored and sat back. So, when needed, whether they are behind of tied in need of a goal, they press a little harder.

Having said that, there is no team that can play as hard as Argentina. When they were down 2x0 to Egypt, they were tackling all over the place. It was an absolute joy to see.

The game against England will be EPIC! And I don't mean the best technically played game ever, as I know it won't be. I mean fought tooth and nail, which is what I love of Argentina and to some extent, England...

Has to be the worst dive in the history of the game considering the conquences and circumstances. Been watching foe a long time and can't think of any obvious dive that was worse.

But VARgentina just rolls off the tongue so nicely  :ROFLMAO:

To be fair, I don't think its rigged (VAR review of disallowed goal was correct), I've just been an Argentina hater before Messi. Masherano, Di Maria, ... the list is endless

I can think of a few - Gilardino - lol. Although in your context of consequences, fair point.
