Handy isn’t my best bottle. A bit of VWFRR to toast a real one.Handy it is!
Thanks for sharing a dram with me at the meetup!
Is that the 4 grain? I have one that's delicious.
No idea lol. This one is pretty decent, but I've defintely had better picks of this. It's on the spicier side (though it deepens/sweetens after 2 or 3 pours), the last one I had was much sweeter, almost like a toasted smore. And I had a SiB toasted rye that was delicious. Is that the 4 grain? I have one that's delicious.
I dont have the vocabulary to describe it in detail, but I like it. Not too sweet not too spicyGrabbed this one today but haven't cracked it open yet
Michter’s 10yr has some excellent barrels. Both bourbon and rye. I wouldn’t pay a premium for Old Rip. Just get Weller 12yr and OWA and mix your own poor man’s pappy.Ok, dumb question time. Old Rip Van Winkle 10 Year Old. Worth it at allocated pricing?
I've had it before and I recall it being quite nice - maybe it was the fact that I knew it was a "special" bottle at the time, but the memory of that drink has stuck with me. I have a chance to buy a bottle at a fair chunk lower than other allocated bottles, but still at a significant mark-up over MSRP.
I'm considering it, but am happy to be talked back from the ledge, lol.
Also, Michter's 10 for equivalent of $250? Fair price?
U.S. Whiskey is generally-speaking more expensive over here in Switzerland, but always happy to get feedback from more experienced folks. Thanks!

I wish I could find a bottle of Antique 107 over here. Weller in general, aside from Special Reserve, is pretty hard to find. I was happy to find a bottle of 12yo recently though.Michter’s 10yr has some excellent barrels. Both bourbon and rye. I wouldn’t pay a premium for Old Rip. What is the markup? I think MSRP is now $130(?), which I think is almost double where it used to be (and what I paid) even only a few years ago. I don’t think I’d pay more than $200, tbh, and I’d have a hard time even paying that unless I’d never had a bottle and wanted to cross it off my list.Ok, dumb question time. I should bring a couple cases to you in a suitcase and trade it for a bunch of Gruyère.I wish I could find a bottle of Antique 107 over here. Weller in general, aside from Special Reserve, is pretty hard to find. I was happy to find a bottle of 12yo recently though.
Not sure how hard it is to actually find good Swiss cheese in the States, but a bourbon mule?!? Sign me up!I should bring a couple cases to you in a suitcase and trade it for a bunch of Gruyère.

TBH, it’s all about the mystique—the bourbon itself is good, but not nearly worth the price, imo. But having the bottle on your shelf does have some cachet, so maybe worth paying more. YMMV.
Fantastic price for a really nice pour! I think it's about $37 at my local low-price liquor chain. I'd probably by a whole box if I ever saw that price.Oh heck yes.

ORVW is the only pappy I would pay secondary for if I had to. If you could find one for 500-650 out the door and were compelled to buy one - I'd do it.Ok, dumb question time. Old Rip Van Winkle 10 Year Old. Worth it at allocated pricing?
