Not really impressed with tournament director software. Any interest in this? (3 Viewers)

I used your software last night @AppMakerRonB for the first time. It was EXCELLENT. Only used it for a single table tournament, but it was great and smooth.

Alerts are really nice and customizable. Pictures of the chips displayed were just cherries on top (another chance for me to look at my chips).

I chose a preset blind structure that was similar to my own and made a few tweaks, it even helped me realize a change I needed to make in my own blind structure. It also estimated the end of the tourney to be the same blind I estimated it to be, and we were correct!

Thanks again for this.

@AppMakerRonB Was playing around with it today and wanted to ask if their will be an ability to make the connected devices act like slaves to each other for displayed tournaments. I can see if they are all set to the same tournament they basically follow form on any changes and reflect them amongst the devices, but is there any way to make them all change to display a new, different, tournament if one device changes?

For example, a tournament ends and I want to start a new one, but the new one uses a different set up, blinds, chips or whatever. I have the second tournament already saved and set up in HQ. I can see that if I start the new tournament on my phone, it does start it on the connected devices as well, but the old displayed tournament that ended does not switch over to the new, “active” tournament unless I go and manually switch them over on every connected display. Any way you can have the connected devices default switch or something to the tournamnet that is “active” and running from one that has ended without having to manually go and change each one to the active tourney?

Thanks for all of your hard work on this!

I have this exact same question! I wanted to do this on Friday night and had a difficult time with it.

I'm not typically running more than one tournament a night, so I hadn't thought about this scenario. I'll put this on my list to think about...

Yeah, my group used to do three turbos but now do 2 longer ones but the second one is different from the first. Maybe a “sync” option or button or something that would make the active tourney displayed on the syncing device then show on the other connected ones. Not sure how hard this is to do in reality. Thanks for considering.

Poker Club HQ v5.0.0+349:
  • Added "Import/Export Players" to/from CSV files for easy import of player names from other apps.
  • Added a hand timer and related alerts, including a new countdown alert.
  • Tap on the QR Code in the timer view to copy its URL to the clipboard for easy sharing.
  • The visibility of the QR Code can be controlled for all connections to the tournament.
  • Added a text field for precise editing of font size and spacing when customizing screen contents.
  • Added better error reporting when editing scripts.
  • Added line and column display when editing scripts for better script debugging.

How to use the new Hand Timer:

In the main menu there's a new Hand Timer button -- however, the tournament timer must be running, otherwise you won't see the Hand Timer button:

ht-00001.webp

After you tap the Hand Timer button, the Hand Timer will open over the timer screen and start counting down:

ht-00003.webp

It defaults to a 30 second countdown, but you can update it to any length you want. Just tap the Hand Timer and this pops up:

ht-00014.webp

If you're not hearing the hand timer alerts, tap "Alerts" in the main menu:

ht-00004.webp

And if the hand timer alerts aren't in the list, tap the wand in the top right:

ht-00006.webp

Then tap "Reset". Warning: this will reset all the alerts to defaults, so if you have custom alerts you want to save, make sure you make a copy of your tournament before you do this. To make a copy of your tournament, go back to the home screen that shows the list of tournaments, tap the "..." to the right of the tournament you want to copy, and tap "Duplicate". You can also tap "Export", or "Download" on the web, to save a copy of the tournament to your device.

If you want to disable any alerts, for example, the new "hand timer countdown" alert. Instead of deleting it (which you can do by swiping to the left on it), you can just tap the alert icon next to it:

ht-00009.webp

Which will update the icon to show it's disabled:

Ron,

Are you eventually going to add all of the alerts from the other App? I figured out how to set up my own "timer is paused" alert but cannot for the life of me figure out how to add a Timer has started alert after a pause. I can do one for timer starting but it will keep repeating the instruction and alert over and over lol.

To add a 'timer started' alert you can set the condition to:
isTimerRunning && previous.isTimerPaused

And then add any actions you want, for example:

Simulator Screenshot - iPhone SE (3rd generation) - 2026-01-27 at 10.15.25.webp

I will be adding more help to the help website (https://docs.page/pokerclubhq/help) for alerts and all the other features.

Alerts can be a little tricky. Basically, the `condition` is looking for the point in time when a variable's value changes, which it can only do by referencing the current value and the previous value. Which is why all alert conditions reference `previous`. Otherwise, the alert will continue to play over and over again as long as the condition evaluates to true.

Works like a charm!

Next issue lol. I assume to add text you have the blank option, but when I was trying to add my league name, it was crashing the iOS app and I would have to uninstall and reinstall for it to even work again.

IMG_4842.webp

I was putting the text in the value screen. Is that not the right place to put it? It worked fine on a PC, but crashed the iOS version when I try to do it on that. Oddly, it would not even show the changed name from the PC version on the iOS version for the same tournament.

Additional question and a wish list item:

--I cannot find the area where the custom points can be set up. I see you reference it on the website, but I have no idea how to actually get to that screen to try to modify points to fit my league point system.

--Payouts. Is there any way it can be set up for custom payout schedules. We don't really go by percentages and, depending on the number of buy-ins, our payouts change but don't exactly match the same breakdown percentage every time additional buy-ins are made. Plus, if we hit enough buy-ins, payouts go from 3 players to 4 players (or if it is a light event sometimes there are only 2 payouts). I have an entire chart for what payouts are going to be ranging from 4-35 buy-ins...lol. Not a huge issue on a freeze out since the initial buyins do not change, but with the re-buy or add-on tournaments, it definitely does.

Would be awesome if the app had a custom set up option available so that if there are say, 8 buy-ins, payouts =xx, 9 buy-ins, payouts = xx, etc. etc. so that it automatically keeps track of total buy-ins and the payouts adjust to match a custom payout schedule. I get that it would have to be manually input by and end userm but I would definitely put in the time to do that on my custom tournaments if the option was available.

Food for thought. Thanks for all the hard work Ron. Will let you know of any other thoughts and issues as I run across them.

Wow, that is a serious bug. Thanks for reporting it! I am able to reproduce the same crash you're seeing, and I'm working on a fix now. I'll let you know when a new version is out with the fix.

The button to get to the "Player points formula" could be more obvious. I should probably make it look more like a button.

Until I do, it's currently the little calculator icon right next to the Points column title. Just tap it:
Screenshot 2026-01-29 at 2.18.17 PM copy.webp

The player points formula is script you can edit. In script, the "//" is the way to comment out a line, so it's not used. So in the default script, the Linear and Square root calculations are disabled:
Screenshot 2026-01-29 at 2.18.43 PM.webp

If you'd like to use the Square root formula, you can delete the "//" before it's formula, and add "//" before the Logarithmic formula, like this:
Screenshot 2026-01-29 at 2.19.13 PM.webp

Or, of course, you can create any formula you want. There's more player data to choose from, other than just `place` or `totalEliminated`, for example:
Screenshot 2026-01-29 at 2.12.48 PM copy.webp

If anyone has any questions, or needs help crafting the formula they want, I am more than happy to help!

Thanks Ron, I did eventually find it after a LOT of poking around...lol. Might be a good idea for it to be accessible in the stats page or elsewhere when tournaments are being set up or before they start as opposed to after they finish.

Also, I am not a coder but for any out there who needs help like me putting together a unique scoring system, ChatGPT rocked one out for me that perfectly fits my league scoring system in about 2 seconds. Would have taken me hours of trial and error to get it done. Still need to fully vet it but it looks like it is going to work to perfection.

New release of Poker Club HQ, version 5.0.0+351:
  • Added "Player points formula" button to Settings screen so it's easier to find.
  • Updated "Help & FAQ" menu item to link to new help website.
  • Updated the Stats export to CSV code to format "Play time" duration values so spreadsheet apps (Excel, Google Sheets, etc.) can more easily format them as time duration values.
A huge thank you to everyone testing the app. Your bug reports and suggestions are invaluable, and much appreciated!

Many thanks to Ron for keeping everyone here up to date with his progress. Our home game used Tournament Director for many years, but for the last couple of years we have been using Blindvalet.com so that we can have the clock on multiple screens in the room. It works, but is not very customizable. I recently did a search of all of the timers available, and after a lot of looking, narrowed down the choices between Ultimate Holdem Timer and Poker Club HQ. It looks like these two have all of the things we're looking for.

We tried Poker Club HQ for our last monthly game, and frankly had a lot of trouble with it. I want to say right off, that I suspect our troubles were a combination of user error and dealing with crappy Fire 7 tablets to display. We played one tournament format first, then when that was over, started a second different one. I have not seen the questions that I have listed by anyone else, so I think it's probably my tiny brain that's the problem. Here we go:
1) How do you delete a round?
2) How do I insert a break?
3) How do you make blinds that are not having the big blind be double the small blind? When you change the BB for example, it automatically makes the small one half of it. Also, for T100, for the second round, I wanted 100/300, but the program kept making it 200/300.
4) There were many times where the display of the timer got stuck for a while and then would catch up. We also hit a point where it would not let me get rid of the display of the tables. I know how to do it, and if I try it now, it works, but that night, in the second tourney, we couldn't remove it and things got very glitchy.
5) Are there instructions somewhere?
6) What does this list show? Why are there so many entries? When I try to create a new tournament, it tells me "This version of the app is limited to 100 items. Move some items to trash to make room." Am I supposed to be moving the items shown below to the trash?

As I said, it doesn't seem like other people are having near as many issues as me, so sorry for all the questions.

I’m sure Ron will jump in and I have been playing around with this on IOS and PC so don’t know if it is apples and oranges with a Fire tablet but I have not had the issues you are describing and have run several test tournaments so far.

1) How do you delete a round?

On mine I can just swipe left on any of the saved tournaments and the option to delete shows up or touch the three dots and select move to trash

2) How do I insert a break?

Open a tourney
Touch hamburger on top right
Go to blind structure
At bottom of blinds is a “+”, hit it and select break and set up your break
Then use the lines to right of break you just created to move it up and between the levels you want a break between

Sounds like you are not disabling the link for the SB and BB. In your tournament go to blind structure again and select the blind level ypu wish to change. On mine the auto link looks like a paperclip linking the two blinds entry areas so your BB is auto double the SB without having to input both. Touch the paperclip (circled in pic above) to disable the link and you can then set the BB to whatever you want.

4) There were many times where the display of the timer got stuck for a while and then would catch up. We also hit a point where it would not let me get rid of the display of the tables. The pokerclubhq.com website has some instructions on it. You can also set up a tourney there and should show up on your fire tablet if both signed up to the same account.

Those are all tourneys you saved somehow. You can swipe left to delete them or touch the three dots next to each on the right and select move to trash.

Thanks @Jake14mw for the feedback and questions! It helps me know what I need to focus on to improve the app.

And thanks @Tonysquander for the assist!

Here's a little more detail on a couple of the questions:

2) How do I insert a break?

At the bottom of the Blinds list, you can tap the icon to switch between adding a new blind or break:

Simulator Screenshot - iPhone SE (3rd generation) - 2026-02-01 at 06.55.37 copy.webp

For example if it's a blind and it's tapped it switches to adding a break:

Simulator Screenshot - iPhone SE (3rd generation) - 2026-02-01 at 06.56.37 copy.webp

And then to move it (or an entry in the list) to a new position, just hold and drag the move icon up and down:

Simulator Screenshot - iPhone SE (3rd generation) - 2026-02-01 at 06.57.02.webp

4) There were many times where the display of the timer got stuck for a while and then would catch up. We also hit a point where it would not let me get rid of the display of the tables. I know how to do it, and if I try it now, it works, but that night, in the second tourney, we couldn't remove it and things got very glitchy.

Any details you can provide about this would be helpful. Was your internet connection stable on all the devices? Were the Fire 7 tables running the Android version of the app or the web version? The app keeps things in sync via a connection over the internet to our backend server. If the connection is spotty, synronization might be spotty as well.

As far as the difficulty removing the display of tables from the timer screen: The app defaults to making changes to just "this level", make sure to switch it to "all levels" if you want the change to apply to all levels:

This is the list of all your tournaments and links to shared tournaments. It looks like you have a bunch of links to tournament "10-20 12 Minute". I'd start by deleting all those duplicate links. I'm curious how that happened. If you've already got a link to a shared tournament, you don't need to use the URL to the shared tournament to open it, just tap on the "Link to..." in the Poker Club HQ app. I'll also check my code — if there's already a link it should just open the link instead of creating another link.

In any case, thanks so much for your feedback, and let me know if you have more questions, or suggestions on how the app can be improved!

Thanks very much for your answers, very helpful! As much as other people can answer general questions here I think that will help Ron focus on real issues. I appreciate your time.

Thanks very much Ron for your answers. I'm understanding things a little better now. Maybe someone like me is a good tester!

Here is the main question that I have for you. What is the best way to "mirror" my timer to multiple devices? I think for many of us, we would like to control the tournament from one device, for me that is my phone, and then have any other devices in the room simply show that. Having that QR code to scan is great, but my display devices are typically in fixed positions around the room without a camera available to utilize it. So, for all of my devices, I was not using the app, instead was using a browser on them to go to pokerclubhq.com, and login. I think this is what caused all of the links? Do you advise using the app instead?

I just downloaded the app to my Moto G Stylus. It keeps crashing. Probably because of all of the links? Also, I tried to download the app to my Fire tablets. I attempted this through the playstore that you have to side load onto Fire tablets. When I search for Polker Club HQ on them, it does not get returned in the search results. So, I think for me, I would have to use the web version. If you could let me know the best suggested way to use multiple devices, I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much!

Oh man., just found this thread. Our league has been using the Texas holdem poker timer for years. There have always been a few things I wish were changed but for the most part, it works great. Now I will have to play with this new update on TestFlight. Question I have, and will figure it out soon enough probably but thought I would ask here, we have multiple people logged into the timer to help with knock outs so not one person has to do all the work. Can we still do this in the beta? The big feature change I wanted and see that it has been added in the HQ version is to rename tables and choose which table is eliminated when consolidating tables. I love this has been added. Thanks Ron. Keep up the good work.

As long as you give others access to your account on pokerclubhq, they should be able to fully control the tournament on their own device, log the knockouts and it will be reflected on all devices.

The other huge change for me that I am psyched about is now being able to add people to the proper seat at the correct table w/out having to jump through a bunch of hoops like on the OG app. That and being able to do my own scoring system are fantastic.

Another change is how he is doing the alarms, before I had to set them for each level but now you can do full tournament alerts. They take a little bit of playing around with and you may want to add one or two of your own (I like to have an alert when paused and coming out of pause for example that I added to my tournament).

Prolly missed this but is there any easy way to send screen of tablet or phone to a non smart TV? Or way to run this app on windows from a desktop computer? I was always using a TV as a monitor with a web based simple timer app but being able to save and load different game setups/blinds with a single click would he so handy over going in and changing every blind every time manually on the old website timer I was using.

depending how old your tv is, you can add another player to it (amazon fire stick or Apple TV). Then you simulcast from your phone or tablet to that player that is now playing on your tv.

You can run it from a PC. You just need to sign into the pokerclubhq.com website. This allows you to run a tournament to be shown on multiple different types of devices at the same time.

Ok. I have been playing with the HQ version with data from the OG poker timer. Love it so far. 2 things/features to look at. The voice can’t be changed for “knock out” alert. I understand about logging into same account, but I really liked the share tournament and connect to shred tournament feature in the OG timer. Maybe consider a similar function. Our typical tournament I control from my phone and have 2-3 iPads on tripods connected to the shared tournament. We then have 3-4 additional players connected to the shared tournament and help with knock outs.
