Wondering if anyone else does this.

I currently host a tournament for my club every other month. The club has a league format that is long-term by design to build a solid Championship Pool (projecting ~$7000 for an 8-player STT) for the current season. My group really digs the long-term build while still getting decent payouts each tournament - the Championship Pool is funded by 20% coming off of whatever comes in from the Events every other month.

That said, they usually all try to find other games to play in between mine. And I love to play in other games on my off months from hosting - lets me enjoy play a bit more as I am sure most here can relate to.

When I founded my club in 2022, one of the guys who started playing with us and became a regular lives local and runs his own monthly game. A straight tournament that is not a league format with points. He also brought a few with him that have become regulars that attend every Event.

Recently I 'partnered' with his game to offer Participation Points for my LeaderBoard for my club members that also play in his game.

My members get 2 Participation Points for locking a seat for one of my Events (no cap). They can also get 1 Participation Point with me each time they play in HIS tournament and I cap this at 10-max during my season. Any of his members that aren't in my game are also 'credited' a LeaderBoard Point from me and to make it official on my boards they have to play in one of my future Events to unlock any back points. Or they can ignore them, and they expire at the end of the season.

So, it is an extra incentive for my members that also helps his game grow, my game gets marketed to his guys not currently playing with me, and I am not having to increase the frequency of my games to answer any concerns/complaints that we do not play frequently enough.

Let the thoughts fly! I can't be the only one that does something like this.

I really thought this would get some sort of feedback/comments whether positive or negative.

I will take the silence as cautious approval. hahaha

I mean it’s a fun and creative incentive

As long as its introduced at the outset of the tournament series in the rules, I think its a fun addition.
The only complaint I could see is someone complaining that people who get a majority of their points from the other tournament series isn't adding to the prize pool, so they could be maximizing EV by playing the other tournament and only playing yours when they need to catch up in points.

We do something similar. In our league, you get points for attendance and for winning.
If at least 3 members participate in an tournament sponsored by someone else, then you can get a certain number of points for coming in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in that other tournament.

Encourages multiple people to attend other tournaments and rewards success in those tournaments, but the numbers aren't big enough to have a huge sway over the whole year.

I did actually introduce this partnership mid-season. I capped the total points someone could get from these games at 10 LeaderBoard Points for the season. This season is first to 100 points, so it is not a material impact.

Main benefit will end up being for those guys that are on the qualifier bubble or are trying to overtake the next position on the LeaderBoards because they are tied or very close. Or, if they miss an Event but want to make up for it somehow elsewhere.

I am sure we will stick with the partnership into the next season and I will up the cap a bit - but it will always have a cap for the reason you point out.

No gaming.

I like that - 3 members participate in an event sponsored by someone else they can get some points from you. Sounds like you don't have to have any sort of arrangement with that other club which is good.
