Not really impressed with tournament director software. Any interest in this? (3 Viewers)

@AppMakerRonB

So one minor thing, and not at all a deal breaker. Could there be an option for devices remotely connected to disable the qr code display?

Ron,

Great to see you are getting close to a launch. I see it is importing some of my existing tournaments from the old app which is awesome. It does not include my existing sound files yet. Will those be able to be imported with the existing tournaments from the old app at some point? On an ipad the option/settings windows are a little glitchy (they will open then close immediately requring repeated attempts to open). Would also much prefer a non-subscription option.

yes, adding sound file support is at the top of my list. That is one feature the old app supported that the new one does not yet support.

I'll look into the iPad issue where the option/settings views close immediately after opening. Can you let me know what version of iPadOS is on your iPad?

And, there will be a non-subscription option (I also like to avoid subscriptions). I'm just not sure of the details yet. One possibility is I could offer a one-time purchase that covers use for a set period of time, like a month, six months, or a year.

With seating, I have a dedicated dealer at each table. I’d like to place them in the #1 spot and lock them in. Doable?
What if there was a dealer spot and it didn't take the 1 seat?

Also, I think you can Name the Table, you could use the Dealer's name as the table name

Most of the assets seem to be User Customizable or you can label the object as you see fit, 'Jim's Table'

Not sure if this functionality exists and I’m not seeing it or if it can be added, but can I move either the chip pictures or the QR code? They are overlapping on my screen. Seems like there is enough room to move either the QR code to the left side of the timer or the chip pictures to the bottom.

Also, I see where I can change font color and it changes too and bottom text but not the clock or blinds. That might matter if I put a background picture that has a lot of white.

Thanks.

In the Tables screen you can drag and drop your dealers to their tables before seating the rest of the players. To drag and drop players in the iOS and Android apps just tap and hold on a player for a second then you can drag them to any open seat at any table. On the web app you don't need to wait a second before dragging. Drag and drop of players only works in the Tables screen, not the timer screen that optionally can also show tables, and only works on players that can be seated, i.e. players in the "Ready to seat" tab or players already seated at a table.

You can also seat any player in this way, but the seating feature can seat players randomly across all your tables, and when seating groups of players, will seat them at separate tables if possible, or nonadjacent seats at the same table.

There isn't currently a way to move them, but you can turn them off if desired. Just tap the "Show..." button in the top right:

Then tap "Show/hide chips":

Then toggle the setting and choose if you want that to be for all levels or just this level:

Setting the font color for text on the timer screen is in the same menu, just tap "Font color".

Poker Club HQ version 5.0.0+341 updates:

In the "Select audio" screen there's a new Custom section where you can upload your custom mp3 and wav audio files for use in alerts:

If you don't see the new Custom section, or an "Upload audio" button, make sure you're using version 5.0.0+341 or later, and make sure you're signed into your account in the app.

So is it now going to import existing saved tournament sounds? Been waiting for that!

Poker Club HQ version 5.0.0+345 updates:

Added a "knockout" alert that announces who knocked out who when a knockout is recorded. I did it mainly to give an example of the flexibility of alerts in the new version. If you ever want to disable an alert, you can delete it, but you can also just tap the bell icon to the left of the alert name to toggle it from enabled to disabled. That way, it can be kept as a reference if desired.

If you've customized alerts in your tournament you may not see the new knockout alert. To reset your alerts back to defaults you can tap the wand icon in the top right, or you can create a new tournament and copy/paste the knockout details from the new tournament's alerts.

Looking forward to trying this out at our next game. I've used your old (original?) software on my (first generation) iPad, but have been hunting the web for something that runs on multiple screens. This looks to do the trick.

The current version (soon to be old) can be shared to multiple screens. I’ve been running it via my phone and to multiple iPads for years. You can check out his website for information on how to set it up:

This just reminded me of another glitch in the existing software @AppMakerRonB

Just wanted to bring it to your attention in case it was not addressed in the new version you are working on. When using the remote share function it seems to store all share ids even after a tournament is over and reset, sharing is stopped, and everything is disconnected from sharing. Then, if you go back and try to use the same ID at the next event, this message will pop up:

IMG_4489.webp

Not a big deal at all because there are a gazillion unique share ids that can be used. I just started using the current date as mine as that will not be replicated again, but wanted to let you know it does not seem to clear a share id once the sharing is stopped.

Yes, the new version fixes that problem. There are no longer any share IDs to remember. To share a tournament between devices, you need to be signed into a Poker Club HQ account. If you sign into your account on multiple devices, all your tournaments are automatically shared between all the devices and kept in sync in real time if they are changed. The new version also supports read-only sharing using an optional QR code on the timer screen. When people connect via the QR code, they can see the timer screen on their device (iOS, Android, or web), which updates in real time as the tournament progresses, but they cannot make any edits to the tournament or control it in any way.

Oh I didn't realize this. I just did the QR code method last time.

I will do this method this time.

Trying it out today ahead of a league tournament game tomorrow. I'm trying to move to an Android based solution, so this has my interest. I have two questions:

1) In android, it appears to be set up for portrait mode with respect to screen layout. Is there a way to adjust the layout to make better use of the screen available in landscape mode? I tend to use that as I connect to an external display over usb-c and/or cast the screen. I'm able to make much better use of the screen in the web version on the PC.

2) Would be be possible to enter in values manually for things like font size, etc in the future? Using the slider is tedious and a bit frustrating when trying to adjust the size and be consistent for multiple items on the same line.

Edit: clarified some information.

If you tap the screen it will toggle the timer controls on/off. Here's what it looks like off, which looks better for casting:

Then to control the timer you can tap the menu in the top right and use the timer controls in there to play/pause the timer, etc:

That's a great idea. It is annoying when you're trying to set a specific value. I'll add this to my to-do list. Thanks for the feedback!
