I am new to the forum and would like to introduce myself. My name is Norm and I am from Georgia. I have a craps table that I bought years ago with a fairly cheap set of composite chips. They did well for me, but I wanted more of the casino feel. I have tried several types and brands out there and have found what I like and what I don't like. I am still partial to "clay" chips and my favorites are my cherished set of Proteges!!! I even like them better than Paulsons. I am so bummed that they are no longer produced. Then again the Paulsons aren't being produced for the home market now either. I am still looking for that "perfect" look, feel and sound. I have steered away from ceramics because I just don't like the feel and they just don't seem to have that special sound. I have also recently been involved with Baccarat and have been collecting plaques! Yes, as if there were not enough reasons to spend money, they had to go and get me interested in plaques. Well, enough about me....I am planning on reading comments and getting to know the fine folks on here!!!

Welcome to PCF! I don't know how long "new" means to you, but you've already got quite the collection there! I am curious about the larger size Casino Royale plaques you have there. I'm not at all up to speed on plaques, but I don't recall seeing those before. Looking forward to more pics as your collection grows!

The "large" CR plaques are the Hotel Splendide variety of the Casino Royal (not Royale). These are Matsui plaques and are the finest plaques I have ever seen/held/fondled! They have a very soft almost buttery feel to them and superbly designed and made. They are the "big brothers" of the smaller Casino Royal that are fairly common on eBay. There was only one "run" of these by Matsui due to their likeness to the actual plaques appearing on the film Casino Royale. My understanding of the Hotel Splendide plaques are that there are only between 300 and 400 out there!

welcome! nice Protege set, and a whole bunch of cool plaques. Whereabouts in GA?

welcome. Great first post. I love the collection that you already have started. Especially the plaques. I once owned a set (actually, owned it twice) that had 100 + plaques in it. Including having plaques in the starting stacks.

Welcome. Maybe if your craps table is portable Mr. Tree will let you bring it to the next Shootout at the Post. :)

OK, I get it. Too many exclamation points! I was excited about finally signing up. Or is that a reference to Cheers? LOL Either way, I'm happy to be here!

Just a Cheers reference, I'm fond of exclamation points myself. Not this early in the morning though lol.

Welcome!

I noticed your photo has some sidepot chip boxes in the background..are those decorative or do they contain more Proteges?

Nice setup, is that a Matsui cardboard 500K plaque? ;)

Just kidding, welcome to PCF. That's one good looking starter set.
Very good eye! YES, it is the new production by Matsui of my plaque design! Just kidding here also! Actually, that is a size comparison of the actual Casino Royale movie plaque. None of the reproduction plaques that I have run across have been the actual size of the plaques that appeared in the movie. I am hoping, one day, to find some that are the actual size and more like the original design of the actual movie plaques. I want them for my high stakes Baccarat game!

I could only hope they had more Proteges in them. They are the boxes my set came in. I had put them in the bin for cardboard recycling and decided that if I ever sold them the recipient might want them in the original boxes so I dug them out and saved them. I am looking to expand my set also! I absolutely love the Proteges. I still find them better than Paulsons (I hope that doesn't get me banished from the forum)!
