Hey guys,
I am new to poker and I find it very interesting. I tried playing micro stakes with my friends and it seems like they are not as interested as I am. I feel like they play because I ask them not because they want to. I have played online which is fine. I would like to play at a casino but its just too much money for me at the moment. I enjoy live games more than online. How to grow in poker so that playing in a casino for 400-500 is okay? Any suggestions.

Welcome!

For home games, find poker friends. It's usually easier than getting non-poker friends into poker.

You need a job that can replenish buyins or you need to practice bankroll management.

At the casino, I started with tournaments because everyone starts with the same amount of chips. When I tried cash tables first, I was sat next to people with 2k stacks and I had like 80. Doesn't work. But the tourney game is much different than cash overall. It's an idea to get started playing at the casino against strangers. Good luck.:)

Yup. Tournaments. You can probably find some $60-$80 buyin tournaments near you that play weekly. Find a Monday one and make it your "thing" until you bink one. Use tournament binkings to start a bankroll for shot taking in the $1/$2 games. Go busto. Rinse/repeat as needed.

Couple of edits:

-Being new to poker, read Phil Gordon's "Little Green Book". It's a great base to jump off from.

-While at the tournaments, don't be scared to ask people you talk to if they know of any smaller stakes home games that run regularly. You never know, you could run into people that need small stakes players as much as you want to find a small stakes game.

-NOBODY in the small stakes tournaments is a "pro", no matter how much they insist they are. Leave your fear at the door.

Welcome !
I Hope you will find some players for your home games (maybe here ;) )

Welcome!

Can be tough to build a home game. Mine has been running for 18 years and only one person beside myself is a 'poker player' outside the home game. Almost all first played at poker at my game. Recruiting is haaard and turnover in players happens. Recruitment is based on social reasons and networking in my profession rather than the poker. Once it gains momentum game persists.

Keep at it!
