KEM Hater (1 Viewer)

I only have one set up of BBK (Brown Box Kems) the Brown & Green backs, and they are the bomb. Another case of if I knew they'd not be available I would've backed the truck up for them. IIRC they were cheaper than Arrowbacks too. I see them on eBay every once and while but I usually don't have faith in their condition.

Okay but hold on. Doesn’t brown box setups imply casino use not consumer use? Because that’s always where I thought the difference might be - that they’re making a different and maybe better product for casinos than they are for us.
I would be shocked if there aren't (a lot of) people who can't confirm or deny the veracity of this assertion. I would almost expect it to be common knowledge. We all handle cards but I figure dealers could speak on this first hand. I would be surprised if casino Kems weren't of a higher quality and assuming they were, I'd be pressed into persistence to find some, lol.

Funny thing, I’ve owned brown box casino Kems a couple of times, and I own a bunch of retail KEMs now, but I’ve never had them both at the same time, for comparison.
I do however own some pre and post UPC retail Kems, so I will try to compare the two, when I get a chance.

If it helps any, the ones I got (not pictured above, those were poker size in black box) that were these types in a brown box but had gone through the forbidden place that kills cards, so I've got too small a sample size.

What is the trick to reverse/prevent bowing?
@upNdown @TheOffalo@DMack says something about a dealer button trick? Link? Tutorial?
Deck face up in box, cut card on top of that, dealer button on top of that, close lid.
I know it sounds like voodoo. And I’m not even saying it works. But I am saying it has worked for me for over a year in conditions that have ranged from 60 to 90+ and humidity all over the chart.

Good enough for me to try and hope they stay nice and flat...

Just to clarify on weather, that room isn’t air conditioned, except on hot summer nights when I had a game. So in New England, yeah it has seen the range, except for extreme cold (because I do heat my home)

You may be able to prevent bowing by using the methods mentioned above but once they have bowed the only trick is:

Open trash can lid
Deposit cards (doesn't matter face up or down) in can
Move trash can to street on trash day

It speaks pretty bad to a brand when people at high volumes have to discuss hoke remedies to keep the cards from bowing and there is a consistent themes of them warping quickly after use and even arriving that way.

I can't understand the rationale that "Yeah, they are fucked up at an astounding consistency, but when they AREN'T... they are great quality!" If they are consistent in such an egregious flaw... they just aren't quality. Just the way I see it.

Yeah but you can argue those same facts the other way too, right? If people are willing to jump through all these hoops and take all these risks all while paying one of the highest prices on the market for a setup, they must be something pretty special, right?

I think that's the point I'm making; I can't grasp that. What's the point of jumping through a bunch of hoops for something that is consistently broken? If something is consistently broken then to me it clearly isn't actually special. What am I missing?

Isn’t that the definition of a Harley Davidson? (I don’t know, that’s just what I’ve heard.)
Anyway, KEMs are not consistently broken for me, and I’ll jump through hoops because I think they’re the perfect card (feel-wise) and I’m not aware of any other cards currently being manufactured that come close.
Consider yourself lucky if you’re good with cards that are stiffer and slippierer.

Maybe I'm still too much the new kid on the block but the only issue with a major card I've heard as much about is the ink issue with Copags. But I've never had a worry about card durability. Glad your experience has been good but far as I can tell this is quite a consistent, widespread thing. We're all poker players, right? If we are competent we play the odds. I can't see why these cards are worth the gamble with so many consistent issues with warping. Hell, I am paranoid when shuffling the few Kems I have just during 1 use that they aren't going to last long. And I am usually right, lol.

I’ve got a few Kem setups and they are by far the best for me. Knock on wood, no warping…but I’m not paranoid about it either. If they warp, I’ll get more.
However, the KEMs don’t come out on every occasion. The Copags are for Cheetos night. :ROFLMAO:

You’re a fan of Faded Spade. I am too. But they are EXTREMELY notorious for cards splitting, and good luck getting their trash customer service to make it right.

Fair point but today was the first I have heard of that, personally. I've been hearing about warping Kems since the day I became a member here.

A bunch of members were so turned off by how trashy FS V1s were that I think many wouldn’t even think to give them a second chance.

V2 comes out, and they’re obviously a better card than the garbage V1, but the V2s split like a ho in a brothel. One contacts FS to get a replacement card, and their customer service tells you they’ll send you one if you’ll do one legged jumping jacks on a tightrope. Even the members that did give them a second chance didn’t want to be fooled a third time.

V3 comes out, and many of us don’t like them as much as V2. I haven’t had any of my V3s split (yet), but I still prefer the V2 feel.

If you do a little research, you’ll find countless comments and complaints about several various issues. I love FS, but there is nothing like the feel of KEM, IMO.

I can't stand super thin cards so they don't feel good at all. To each his own, I suppose.

Maybe mention this in your first comment about the rationale for taking chances with super thin cards.
But I've never heard about this problem being widespread among other brands of thin cards. I like then to an extent for variety now and then; so if I am going to buy some, why wouldn't I be hesitant to buy Kem if they are SO notorious for this? I realize they are much easier to get a hold on than some other brands. Still, the idea that they are great... when they aren't warped... it's a big lol for me.

Can you tell me precisly, preferably in points what is that you seek in cards? Size, index, colors, stiffnes etc.
Maybe we can help
