I think that's true but only for really big chips, not 25s or 100s. When playing with the AS set the mixed size for the 25s felt awkward. I guess it depends also on how many get into play. If you're playing a 1/2 game there could be quite a few 25s on the table.
And here I am...with a Cali AS set. 7 racks of 43mm yellow $5s and all those 43mm black $20s and white hundos. What was I thinking?! ;)

Awesome! I guess this is more along the lines of what I was thinking, albeit with a progression to 45 mm for the biggest denoms.

Thanks for the practical feedback, it's helpful. I'm operating mostly in theory here and probably suffering from "In theory, everything works in practice. In practice, everything works in theory" principle. I've only played in one game with an oversized chip and only one of those chips ever hit the table. I wanted to see way more out there.

I'm guessing that may be why typically you don't see oversized chips in the casino until you hit around 1k. I don't have experience with a fully oversized set for tourney or cash games so not sure if it would be a less of an issue there.

I was messing around with the color samples for the tourney set last night. I'm a bit tired of the traditional colors (ex: green T25, black T100, etc.). I want to try and do something different this time.

I will be in for exactly 0 T5 chips. Can’t see the reason for them really. Excited to see the tourney lineups for poll voting.

Back when I started chipping and customized some super diamonds, I used these colors:

25 - green
100 - grey
500 - orange
1000 - blue

The colors were used for tourneys in some actual cardroom that I have long since forgotten the name of, but it inspired me to do the same. They worked together very nicely, and while not totally out there, not the same thing that's been seen a hundred times over either.

+1 to a 45mm tourney set up to at least a 25k chip. Swing for the fences - great opportunity to make a truly unique set.

Playing off the far left combo: 44 A - 24 B - 30 C?

Maybe start with a T100 base if you’re doing all 45mm.

Sky blue - T100
Hot pink - T500
Bright yellow - T1k
White - T5k
Red - T25k
Purple - T100k
Sounds good to me, except for the white 5K. If you're going to waste a chip with white, at least make it the 100K, which will never actually hit the table.

screw traditional, screw cali, get crazy, you have my blessing

44 A - 49 B - 28 C
:) I was suggesting you might want to also try 44 A - 24 B - 30 C. :) There’s something about Padres 70/80s brown, yellow, orange that makes my heat flutter.

I would love to see a slightly muted green/green chip. So many greens are neon with high contrast neon spots, so it would be awesome to see one to fill a role like the 500 in a T25 base set. Not the workhorse chip but something to break up the progression.

Are there any existing green chips with a green edge spot ??

I'd be curious to see an example of this. See if you can find what you mean here: http://chipguide.themogh.org/cg_query.php

So this is somewhat of an example. The spots have green hues within and neither color is neon. Its not exactly what I imagine but maybe this will get gears spinning in other peoples heads with better design ideas than me. You could even do a lighter chip color with dark spots.

The reason I like this because I have not seen so many chips with these colors, especially if it is on a non $/T 25 chip. I think this also allows more colorful chips to really pop as well.
