I Love Craps (1 Viewer)

Yeah, it's an easy way to play but gets a little boring when someone is on a massive roll. What is really fun is to make place bets and slowly press your bets up to high amounts as the numbers roll again or to make what are called come bets (which are basically pass line bets in the middle of a roll). Some people play the "hard ways" bets (i.e. betting a 2,2 will roll before a 3,1 or 1,3 or any 7) and will press these bets up to higher amounts but I tend to stay away from them because the house advantage on them is about 4 %. Pressing a bet is increasing the amount bet when it wins rather than taking a profit. a good strategy is to take a profit first so you are working with the house's money then press away. It is fun, kind of like "let's make a deal" do I take profit or take a chance that the 7 won't roll and take all your money. If you are pressing bets and someone is on a big roll, you can make a lot of money very quickly. This is usually when the whole table is yelling very loudly and annoying the people losing money on the slots.

I played craps the other day at St Croix casino and it was a bunch of fun with a full table, especially when we got on a good roll. Nothing as crazy as Links massive wins but me walking away with a hundred profit was exciting instead of down a few hundred lol.

I was watching my brother play craps earlier this year at a semi-local casino. The guy next to him had $600 in front of him when a new roller started. This new roller ended up rolling for nearly an hour and hit hard 8 after hard 10 after hard 8. The guy with $600 pressed every single dollar he had and walked away with over $50k. He kept taking the hard bets and winning, he had all numbers maxed out and was some other bets i'm not familiar with. The floor had to bring over more chips because he was winning so much! My brother won about $2k betting small. I sat and watched since my bro said it would be rude to jump in  also i barely know how to play.

...and when you win and leave with pockets full of 1s the price per chip is negligible!!

Haha true! Next time I go I'm going to hopefully harvest the remaining 50 or so 1's I need for my set and then start on the 200 for your set :). I just wish they had the .50's on the craps table but they don't.

It's not rude to jump in and place a come bet. See it all the time on a hot table

^this. If there is a place for you on the rail, then you are welcome.

I remember the good ol days of $1 tables with 10X odds at a few places on the strip (I'm old). One strategy that is often written about is playing the pass line and two come bets with full odds at the same time. You also could add place bets on the 6 and 8 if they are not already covered. Any bets handled by the stickman (middle layout) offer a huge percentage advantage to the casino. Sure, you can win big when they hit but the payout is not even close to true odds. I stay away from those.

Chip karma and dealer karma go hand in hand. Place a toke bet next to your pass line bet for the dealers, let the stickman know. They appreciate it and will have a little fun with you. The best thing about craps is the easy math. The percentages never change so an idiot can do it well and greatly reduce the house advantage to almost nil.

Craps first, blackjack second. I like to do the 5 count. Look up 5 count craps. Sometimes it screws you but typically it helps me put my bets on streaks, avoids those who 7 out early, and gets me more comp time.

Not many believe it but you can actually throw dice consistent enough to give you an edge if you practice. It's all physics :). Look up golden touch, I think. A bunch of sites try to sell you bs, but i was able to find free info many years ago on how to hold and release with back spin as well as dice setting configurations. Setup and execute. If you get good enough, be prepared for the pit boss to try and cool you.

Don't be afraid to use the 5 count on yourself as well.

The table at casino royale in vegas is horrible for dice setting/throwing. Too much padding and bounce adds high variability.

I prefer old felt and a hard table. Reduces the variability and stops the dice.

I hit my best shoot very early on when I learned craps. That addiction to the high I felt that night, like I was the king of the world, is what keeps me coming back. It's like a drug you keep chasing to get back to that moment when everything was perfect.

I was in vegas at the green valley ranch. $5 fire bet on my own shoot, house max at 1,000:1. $15 table, playing max odds. I bought in for $300. Covered all the place bets and full press twice before taking money then full press every other time it hit. Roughly an hour later, I hit my 6 number fire bet. They had to call the floor and review the tapes before they paid me the 5 grand. Shortly thereafter I hit my 7 and cashed out for over 10k. I had a $600 8 that kept paying. I didn't have the balls to press any higher. I was playing with a good friend, and it was a party pit table so the dealers were all dolled up like show girls. We had a lot of fun with them. "Ladies on the pass line!" and "ladies get odds!" was screamed the whole time from me and my buddy. He even had them on firebet for $1. That ended up tipping a grand alone.

We ended up running to one of the dealers at the local gas station. She came running up and gave us both big hugs. We hung out for the next two weeks we were in town. That table was by far the highlight of my trip, and one I'll never forget. I've never even come close to that run since.

"Give the ladies their best friend! Place a nickle on hard 10!"

Just thinking . . . If I could control roll the dice with enough skill to overcome the house 1% edge and actually gain, say a 3% edge, I'd be visiting the pits all over the country rather than working. Someone with a skill like that could be making 3% of something like $3,000 in bets spread properly every time they got to roll - so something like +$90EV each roll. While variance would be a concern, the hourly rate has to be thousands of bucks an hour.

Don't get greedy though. Hit the house for a couple of grand on the crap table, give some back playing other games and then move along {variance means sometimes the house will have a wining session - a good thing since you need to look legitimate}. There are roughly 500 casinos in the USA. Buy a high end RV and visit each one twice a year. Win a million bucks per year rolling the dice. Oh, and report this properly to the taxing authorities.

Now that is my kind of grinding! -=- DrStrange

I love craps too! Casino near me only had slot machines, but recently they added video blackjack, 3-card poker and craps, so I decided to visit. Sat down for 3-card poker, meh. Blackjack, turned a nice profit, but craps is where the money rolled in! First time playing video craps, played for $200, cashed out $1,300! And that's without laying proper odds on the place bets, I'm pretty sure I would have won more if I knew how to on a $15 minimum.

another downside to this part of the world.

I love craps too but there is such little of it in this part of the world.

sniff...

Fair bit of craps action at The Star & Crown usually gets some pretty good action going as well. Canberra Casino being possibly the worst casino in the country - I'm not too surprised it may be slow there.

I listen to the "You can bet on that" podcast. The hosts mainly play craps, but they talk about their trips to the casino. Not much in the way of real useful information, but for those of us that don't get to go to the casino as often as we'd like (for better or worse) it is a fun way to live vicariously through other people and hear stories of their trips. Anyway, they talked about the "Small" "Tall" "All" bet recently and on my way back from a guys weekend I drove by a casino... So I stopped by for a little bit. Didn't have much time, so I thought I'd play craps. I was the second roller and placed a STA bet for $5 and said 2,2,1. What I was meaning was $2 on the Small, $2 on the Tall, and $1 on the All. They placed my bet and I forgot about it. I am small time so I played $5 Pass and then placed the 6 and 8 for $6. Then I went on a mini heater. I hit a couple points then rolled a 3 to hit the small.

They started paying everyone out and gave me $35. I said "I had $2 on the small" they then let me know that I had 2 on the Tall, 2 on the All and 1 on the Small. I felt a little stupid for making the mistake but continued to roll. I hit a few more points and the table was getting loud. At that point I had pressed the 6 and 8 up to $30 each and had the 5 and 9 for $10. Seemed like I was hitting all the numbers and was getting paid on every roll. It was an awesome feeling. Next thing I knew a lady on the other side of the table said "How 'bout a 12!" I smiled threw $5 to the stick and said 12 please. It hit that roll, filling the Tall and the All and the table went nuts. I got the $70 for the tall, the $150 for the 12 and the $350 for the All. One dude had $10 across all three bets. I got almost as much satisfaction as seeing the house pay out that much money as I got out of booking my modest win.

Two people each shot me $15 bucks (not the dude with the $10 bets though). I sevened out after 2 more points. Feeling that it wasn't going to get much better than that I colored up for $715, on my $100 buyin. Tossed $15 to the crew and headed home. It was a great way to get home from a weekend with the boys.

Had my first ever craps session last night. Wasn't planning to hit the table but had a couple blacks in my pocket and decided to plop them down with a friend after a late night dinner break from poker at Borg.

I have to admit it was pretty fun. Went from $200 to $800 back to $225 to cash out. I hadn't primed myself with the famous @PAZ craps system before playing since it was a spur of the moment thing so I was betting all kinds of dumb shit: points, field bets, hard eight a few times. Maybe I'll take another shot now that I've refreshed myself with @PAZ strat again.

Suffice to say, I think I get why you guys like dice.

Jack, can you provide the link to his strat again? I'm having a hard time finding it on CT.

I'm away from my computer right now and somehow I have no idea how to export docs from my kindle so here are screenshots of the three pages.

If someone has the PDF version to post, it would be appreciated as it looks a lot cleaner than the screenshots here.

Getting ancy to hit up Harrahs in Kansas City (closest casino with Craps to Northwest Arkansas) after reading these posts.

Another last minute run to the Chunk last night after our end-of-the-season golf league party. Ran my $200 into $2450 (plus $500 more at blackjack) - lololol - DCS FREEROLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL. So fun. I rolled for 16 minutes (and couldn't get my chips out there fast enough to color up after rolling the s$%#^n).

Need pics next time (I know you probably have to sneak it in most casinos). Would love to see that chip-up
