I am in need of help or suggestions on the amount of chips and denominations I would require for a 10 person cash game. Buy-in would range from $50 - $100 with unlimited rebuys.

I may also occasionally host smaller stakes games as well like $20 - $40 buy-ins with unlimited rebuys.

What denoms and quantity should I have in each set? Thank you for the help!

For this range of buy-ins I would suggest blinds of 0.25-0.50 for your $50-100 buy in game or 0.25-0.25 for the smaller games. This enables both games to use the same denominations 0.25/1/5 and then a 20 or 25, and maybe 100 if you really want to bulk the bank.

For one table I think a 600 chip set would suit fine.

100 * 0.25
300 * 1
160 * 5
40 * 20 or 25

Bank
1925 or 2125

That might be a little tight on the 100 buy in nights. I generally like to be able to cover 3-4 buy-ins per player and we only have 20 buy in's total at 100 a buy in with this breakdown. Letting 100 bills play is an option when the bank is exhausted, otherwise if you can swing 800 chips do this:

100 * 0.25
300 * 1
300 * 5
80 * 20 or 25
20 * 100

Bank 5425 or 5825

Average players in a 10 handed game would get something 8/23/x of 0.25/1/5 (25 in singles and quarters plus however many 5s needed to complete the buy in), but you can divvy up the chips however. The easiest way is to fire up the game as soon as five players show and give them each 20/20/x (or 20/40/x) and then other players get their buy ins in higher chips and make change as they go.

I just don't like putting a lot of a set toward chips that only really get used in blinds 8-12 per player is the sweet spot, imo. I do like a lot of singles in 0.25-0.50 as the workhorse chip so I like giving out a full barrel (or two) per player if possible.

Good luck.

100 x .25
200 x 1
200 x 5
100 x 25

This would work. Prolly selling this soon. I think 2100 of these chips is more than enough lol

MORE $5 s !!

For .25/.50 unlimited rebuys. ITs nice to see lots of chips on the table. $5s are the work horse. After the blinds are posted and betting starts, it would be mostly $1s, $5s, $20s in the pot.

100 X $0.25
300 X $1
800 X $5
100 X $20
40 X $100

EDIT: the $100s are emergency if things get crazy. Without them its a $6325 bank

I notice not a whole lot of people suggest $10s. Is there a reason for this thinking?

Not sure,

I dont host but play at a .25/.50 game and another game that was 1/1 neither game had $10 chips.

At the cardrooms and casinos around here you wont find $10 chips at the 1/2 or 1/3 games

I think people will use what they like, there is no 'wrong' way. Some breakdowns and denominations are designed to be efficient. More experienced players/ hosts than myself can probably explain the thinking behind most set ups.

Typical recommendations are to have chips that are a 4x or 5x jump from the previous... so:
25c
$1
$5
$20/$25
$100

$10 and $50 just aren’t efficient use of chips.

For a $50 buy in game, 25c/25c sounds real sweet to me. For $25 buyin that you expect to have a fair amount of rebuys and get deep later in the evening, 25c/25c still sounds good. If you don’t expect Many rebuys in that game, 10c/10c would be sweet... or just a single blind of 25c.

Use dice chips till you have built a regular game and know what to expect. Four colors will cover fracs, ones, fives and twenty-fives. A 500 piece chip-set is all you need.

Base the stakes on players in your group. Some people like to buy-in for $20 at a time, others get together and play $2/$5 with a minimum buy-in of 60BB's.

I have actually ordered 500 Milano chips as a startup set. How are those?

Efficiency will be cited, and makes alot of sense; although I am sure many a casual home game are running just fine.

But probably more importantly for a place like this, which is dealing in alot of premium chips; it's likely magnified to avoid having to collect an extra variant, and associated costs.

Fewer denominations are better, especially in no limit when having to count stacks. Spacing denominations 4x-5x apart limits unnecessary extra denominations.

I would rather count a stack with 42 singles and 5 quarters, rather than 1 ten, 3 fives, 18 singles and 1 quarter. Both will total 43.25, but you will get the answer in the first stack faster than the second, even though the second stack is far fewer chips, is four denominations, meaning you have to sum four figures in your head instead of two. I am sure every here is smart enough to sum four figures, but if it's a question of ease, two is always easier.
