Have Chinese cards mold replica sets gone too far? (8 Viewers)

No, I honestly don't understand it.
In my mind, there are two reasons to have copies - 1) to trick people into thinking you have the real thing, which is just sad; or 2) to pretend you have the real thing, which seems childish.
I get that it's not that simple. Somebody raised the example of a real painting vs a print. I do have framed prints in my home and I recognize that there's an inconsistency with that and with what I said above. So I know I don't have this all figured out perfectly. But I stand by my statement - I don't understand why people would want to play with copies because to me it feels either deceptive or childish. It's probably the same reason why I never cared for fantasy chips. Why do I want chips that pretend to be from Casino de Mexico? There isn't even a Casino de Mexico! I'd rather just use chips that say Fun Nite, and hope they're right. And it's the same reason I'd rather use starbursts for fracs than relabel something as a pretend frac.
Believe me, I understand that my thought process here is a little twisted. But I'm just being honest - I don't see the appeal of copies.
There is a 3rd reason and you actually alluded to it in your post. You want something that you find attractive, but you can't afford or don't want to spend the amount it costs to purchase the original.

So, in fact, you DO understand, because you've done it yourself.

Exactly, maybe people are just being a little more practical and as TX golf said and not wanting or able to afford a chip set we like. I do fall under this category as I do draw a limit on how much I will spend on a chip set regardless of if I could afford it or not.

The reason I would want a set of copies, tributes etc. of a certain chip set Is because I like the inlay art and or color designs. I highly doubt anyone buying Tina chips or any other recreated design are “pretending” they are real Paulson chips when playing or displaying them.

Seems there is no limit...
It won't be long before we see 'tina' rhc mold in CLAY...

This whole thing is still hilarious to me.

- flippers driving up chip prices for no reason except to take advantage of us - no big deal

- people getting ripped off and reluctant to put the people doing it - no big deal

- people relabeling chips with labels using artwork derived from trademarked inlays - no big deal

- some place in China makes knock-off Paulsons - WAIT A MINUTE THIS IS THE END OF CHIP COLLECTING AS WE KNOW IT

As for people trying to lay down judgements or shame on people that order these, reconsider how seriously you take this hobby. The people that are going to order these don’t give a fuck what you think. You’re not the fucking chip Gestapo so just relax.

Sure, if someone tries to pass these off in a transaction as real clay, then feel free to blast them. But if someone can’t afford the real thing and wants to play with these or has a friend that spreads horrible chips and wants to upgrade them on the cheap, then just let ‘em be.

Not everyone can afford $3+ for Paulsons or essentially the same for CPC customs given the recent price hikes.

Hell, many of the flippers are looked at as martyrs. They have legions of followers that gawk over them at every opportunity. They all willfully and happily line up to get bent over. It has always amazed me.
I can’t remember the username, but I swear I read a post that stated their entire 300k chip collection would be paid for with flipped chips…can’t find it now. Crazy to image that…and I think not all 300k were dice chips. Pretty sure they were mostly leaded THC and TRK. I may have imagined it.

Heck if you told me when i 1st started buying Paulsons that there was going to be a hat n cane mould replicas coming down the line.
Pull the other one mate...it plays Jingle Bells.
How naive we (or i) was back then, we had it good, most sets could be acquired ala Johnny Cash (One Piece at a Time) for the working joe.

Where this game is now was inevitable once more people jumped in, throw in a couple of whales and prices got shaken up (can't wait for a few more to swim on by).
Where this goes from now does not matter for me I've got my couple of sets but can no longer afford to chase what i want. I was in no "Don't let it happen camp" but what Bergs said is correct.
Where are the TRK replicas Tina

I’m sure that all this public bashing is definitely going to make people rethink.

Chippers who bought and sold for awhile but never fell into the “deep end”. Who watched vendors and chippers make literally millions of dollars off rising chip prices. People who have some middle of the road entry level sets but always loved a PNY of Olivia’s or Vineyards.

They wished Tina would do a THC/RHC, it was the only sensible way they could scratch that itch. But woah!?!? You don’t approve? Hmmmm…they’ll probably change their minds and instead save up $15k for that vineyard set they want.

Given how this market (ahem, it’s not a community) works, this was Tina THC mold thing was inevitable. Everybody should just relax and revel in the fact that if anyone tries to sell China ceramics here as Paulson clays, the “community” will go after them with the same unrestrained fervor as it has the flippers that have multiples in number and ruthlessly driven up the prices of this hobby.

Meanwhile, if someone gets the Tina chips because that’s all they can afford, just fucking relax for chrissakes.

Honestly I wish ppl went after known flippers the way they’re going after these China chips.
Well said!

Sounds good but………it’ll never happen. Many are too afraid they won’t get their opportunity to rummage through the scraps of the ones ripping them off to begin with.
We all know who. ;)

I dont, feel free to name and shame here or in message.
This is also part of the overall problem. It’s too bad you feel this way. Truth is, there is no shame anymore, it’s all been bought and paid for.

There’s no need in saying the obvious when everyone knows exactly what the obvious is. The obvious is now an excuse for everyone.

I feel what way? I just said I dont know who it is.

Lol and there it is again, "everyone knows", I don't. And I don't understand the obvious being an excuse line.
