It is with a bit of a heavy heart that I post this ad, because it was a project that I really loved putting together way back when, and I got a lot of help from kind and resourceful PCF members to whom I owe a debt of thanks. I hope that in my own small way I have been able to pay forward their acts of generosity and patience. Alas, I do need the money to help offset the cost of a replacement vehicle as my previous car was in an accident is a total write-off.
For your consideration, I offer my Nevada BOLO collection. What does BOLO stand for, you ask? Barrels Of Live Ones is the answer. Back in 2019, in preparation for my 50th birthday, I wanted to collect two sets of live casino $1 chips: 50 barrels from Las Vegas casinos and another 50 barrels from Nevada outside of Las Vegas. Basically a total of a barrel each from 100 different casinos. Spent a lot of money doing so, but was able to reach my goal within about 12 months of collecting.
The intervening 5+ years since has seen a lot of change in the composition of the "Live 100" list. Some casinos were bought out and destroyed only to rise again in another form. Some were demolished and have yet to be replaced. Some stayed operational but underwent rebranding. Others just simply closed. As some chips were no longer live, they were replaced in time, but I couldn't practically keep up with the project as it continually and forcefully evolved. A small collection I called BORDO (Barrels Of Recently Deceased Ones) grew out from this slow transition as a result.
Anyway, to make a long story short, the entire collection of 2260 chips (1840 of which are live) is up for sale. Many of the casinos on the Las Vegas Strip have replaced their $1s with RHC and hot stamped versions; the BOLO collection has more of the slightly older THC and inlaid versions of these. The vast majority of them are the traditional Paulson clay (whether THC, RHC, or house mold), although there is a small handful of ceramic and BJ plastic chips.
There are a few different ways these chips can sell. (Note, chip racks and birdcages not included in sale.)
A) If someone wants the whole 2260 chip collection as is, they can have it for $4700. Well below my acquisition cost, and free shipping to Canada and USA addresses (and $100 shipping credit outside of Canada and USA). This large a collection will need to be divided into several separate boxes.
What's the usefulness of the entire set? Well, about half the chips are a white or light colour base, and the other half are a blue or dark colour base, so you can use them as 2 separate mixed limit sets!
B) I can split this into 20 separate collections of 113 singles, each set for $300. Will ship at cost to anywhere in the world Canada Post will reach (estimate $25 to USA addresses and just under $20 to Canadian addresses, for 1 set).
- multiple purchases sent to the same address will get a bulk discount (as well as any savings on shipping)
- purchase 3 or more sets and price per set drops to $275
- purchase 5 or more sets and price per set drops to $250
- multiple sets sent to one address also allows for PCF members living relatively close together to save on costs, or reship from one address cheaply (perhaps same in EU?)
- I will cover shipping costs for up to 5 sets to a single address if you have purchased anything on PCF from me since Jan 1, 2025 until now
I won't collect money or ship until at least 5 sets have been reserved by dibs, and every 5 sets thereafter, or unless someone wants the whole thing. I reserve the right to end the sale if 10 sets (half the collection) remain unclaimed within a reasonable amount of time (i.e. 1 month).
Not every chip in a barrel is necessarily exactly the same; at the time of collection, it is possible that more than one $1 chip design was live at the same time and harvested as such.
As well, not every chip is in the exact same condition; many are minty, most are slightly used, and a minority are well-used enough to show flea bites or have reduced barrel heights.
As of this writing, 92 of the $1 chips are live, and 21 of them are not, in each 113-chip set.
Payment via PPFF is preferred. PPGS must add +4% to cover fees. Bank transfers via Wise or e-transfer from a Canadian bank also accepted, but exchange rate will need to be calculated.
Please feel free to ask questions in the thread. If you are interested in 1 or more sets, please dibs in the thread before sending me a PM. If you are interested in multiple sets to be divided among several members, please identify all members in the buy and designate one primary recipient. Feel free to peruse my feedback and purchase with confidence. This will be a dibs sale UNLESS one person wishes to purchase the entire collection and there have been less than 10 sets reserved by that point.
I can also potentially consider trades for other chips or chipsets or combination of cash and trade, but my circumstances do force me to primarily sell for cash. But you never know, especially if it's something I really need to finish a project (i.e. a half rack of White non-overstamp Starbursts, or 4+ barrels of CDI98 $1, in as best condition as I can get).
