Favorite Set of Cards to Play With (1 Viewer)

To each their own, I think they’re hideous. They might be great as far as feel(I haven’t tried them) but I prefer a thinner card ala pre-USPC Kem or Desjgn Classic Culture
If you prefer a thinner card and don’t like the look then stay away and don’t even try them out. They are on par with Modiano’s in regards to thickness. Agreed, to each their own.

I’m actually willing to try them, but not at the cost of buying them haha. If someone brought them to one of our games I’d want to get them into play.

Hideous might even be generous. Throw in the absurd stiff thickness (it's like shuffling cut cards) and no thanks. Perfect for creating dealer fatigue and cramped muscles.

Those double index jumbos are pretty awful, too.

My crew tolerated a 4 hour cash session with the 1st edition Faded Spades. I agree that they were very stiff out of the box. After a 4 hour session, I actually found that they broke in nicely and softened up a bit. They don't feel flimsy like some Copags and the newer Kems.

The Faded Spades are very polarizing here. They're either loved (I like them) or hated here.

I'll certainly agree with the flimsy feel of Copags and Kems (plus the respective premature wear and waping issues of each).

I don't hate (awfully strong word) the Faded Spades cards, but they are very low on my 'like' list. :)

I grabbed some Copags and Kems. The Copags seemed too stiff for my liking - perhaps they'll break in?

The Kems seemed absolutely perfect. As in "wow, I really know how to shuffle now" perfect. I then left them out for a day or two and the top card looked like a banana (ok, I'm exaggerating a bit for effect, but it was startling). I put them back in the plastic case and it seemed to straighten out.

If they last, I'll love them - but if they warp this badly/quickly in the future I won't be thrilled.

Was this card exposed to extreme sunlight or hot air?

So far my luck with KEMs have been 75% bad.

I bought 2 decks, an Arrow Poker Jumbo, where both decks started "bow-ing" and before that I bought a WSOP tournament-used collector set (the ones that came with a wooden box), it was like one deck developed some sort of rash, the surface kinda becoming pasty, the other deck didn't seem affected but to save my investment I took it from the wooded case and put it in a clear plastic sorta air-tight case. Its alive and well to this day.

From my experience, when it comes to acetate cards -

1. They should be stored in individual boxes to prevent warping and avoiding moisture

2. They SEEM to be more prone to warping if they are Poker sized, as opposed to Bridge sized, maybe its a function of surface area or something?

I have bad luck with Kems well. The Poker Table, chips, and cards are in my (mostly finished) basement. Some of my collection have been there for 12 years. Almost all of my Kems (both USPCC and pre-USPCC) have warped. Some Gemacos have issues also. Dal Negros, NTPs, Modianos, Copags, Fourniers, Piatniks, and Desjgns (older Classic Paisleys) are perfect.

I've had one deck of Modianos warp, but width-wise as opposed to vertically.

I've had a a deck of my Copags warp similarly as well. Both of them nowhere near as bad as the KEMs though.

I think after countless hours of dealing my 2 preferred decks are Desjgn Classic Cultures and Kem Circle Back Casino’s. Everything else is just too stiff and ends in sore thumbs.
