What’s everyone’s favorite set to play with? I’m a newb when it comes to cards but I usually go with modianos or copags

Kem for feel and shuffle.

Design for looks.

Those are my top 2 and really the only cards I use.

At the cheaper price point I like Copag. I am not a fan of prestige

Desjgns are best to me and for looks are way beyond the others.

I'd say at the price point Prestige are the best value for cost to durability ratio. No reason not to pick up a pair and if they are not for you give them to the kids.

Beyond that it really comes down to personal preferences. Firm vs flex, texture vs smooth, poker size vs bridge, regular index vs jumbo. Some of these are very different between manufacturers and some not.

Ultimatly you just have to get a set in your own hands and use them in a game. There's no right or wrong.

Having said all that Modiano has a big strike against them around here after they screwed over Deijgn on a group buy.

Classic Victorians from Desjgn is my favorite by far. Love the look and feel and honestly stopped buying anything else since (probably not fair to any new cards out there) :)

I find copags, and bicycle prestige have issues with the top card sliding when the deck is put down which is very annoying. Modianos doesn't have that issue. I'm waiting on some Desjgn decks to arrive.

I recently picked up some WSOP 2013 cards which seem pretty good but haven't got them into play yet.

I know a lot of people have issues with modiano but I think I like them best. I haven't had a chance to get piatniks or Fourniers though. I'll pass on kems for the warping issues.

1: Fournier Congress/2826 (bridge/jumbo)
2: Desjgn Casino (bridge.jumbo) - (quickly becoming my favorite card)
3: Piatnik (bridge/jumbo)
^^ This.

But for the low cost, you just can't beat Bicycle Prestige bridge/jumbo for the quality/value combination. They will wear out a bit faster, but still hold up very well. I've experienced no sliding top card issues.

Of the dozens of card mfg decks I have, only those four get used anymore, and the Prestige cards see more play than the other three (until I run through all my stock).

Fuck Modiano and their crappy customer no-service and screw-the-customer policies.

Fournier (not Congress)
Piatnik
Dal Negro

The Platinums used to be among my favorites as well but with the #boycottmodiano not so much anymore.

2014 WSOP Bicycles are my favorite right now. Not as stiff as copag (my second favorite) and has a little texture to them

I have an older setup of Piatniks I kinda forgot I owned. They are not jumbo index but they are bridge with 4 pips. We used them a month or two ago and they are about as nice as it gets to me. I also think Gemaco Superflex is a wonderful setup.

I still think a perfectly flat deck of Kem cards is the ultimate, but also elusive.

KEM and Desjgn are far and above my favorite decks and my Classic Cultures and Classic Baroque and used WSOP KEM decks hit the table far more often than anything else. Behind those I like Piatnik, Bicycle Prestige, Copag, and the other Desjgn offerings.

Far and away the most important thing to me is the finish/flex/feel of the cards. I also vastly prefer bridge. Don't really care about index, I actually prefer standard but many of my players prefer jumbo. I don't really care about looks as long as they aren't silly designs and they aren't easily markable.

I am surprised Dal Negro gets little love. They are amazing cards IMO.

They are just harder to find and a bit more expensive. At least it seems that way in the US. I've actually never handled a deck.

Manufactured by ModiaNO. Same feel IIRC

Oh yeah? Well those are out on principle then. I actually like the look and feel of Modiano cards and think they are a pretty good value, but I refuse to support them with my wallet. Too bad really.

I hear that. Too bad too because they are really nice cards. Of our local hosts uses ModiaNOs that he bought before they screwed over Jason, great feel, can’t support them though.

ModiaNO also manufactures Davinci, so those are on the don’t buy list.
AFAIK, Dal Negro is a completely separate company, and is not affiliated with ModiaNO.
Dal negro also makes NTP cards, which are goods cards, too!

Until someone can show me that Dal Negro has any sort of affiliation with ModiaNO, I’ll continue to buy Dal Negro.

Agreed. Just because the cards are all made in Italy doesn’t mean they all have an affiliation to Modiano. I know da Vinci does but how does Dal Negro have business relations with them?

Where do you folks get the Dal Negros? I've failed to find a good source for bridge sized cards with a quick Google.

I dislike $#@&ano  for what they did to Desjgn as much as the next guy but I still have @#@&ano  cards produced/bought before the Kickstarter issue and they are for the most part good cards. I'm not throwing away good cards, just sure as hell am not giving $#@&ano  another dime of my money in the future.

Fournier (not Congress)

Interested as to why as the Fournier/Congress & the Forunier 2826 are pretty much the exact same card just different branding. Or is it the 2826's that you don't like.

There are quite a few threads on this topic, and it really comes down to what you prefer in a card.

I prefer poker size, and ideally jumbo index. My preferences
Jumbo
Fournier 2818 (WSOP, WPT, etc)
Bicycle Prestige red/blue (made by Fournier)
Desjgn Classic Victorian
Modiano
Others...

Std Index
Bicycle Prestige
Desjgn Classic Flourish
