Favorite Car You've Owned? (4 Viewers)

Three years, a total of 70,000 cars made. It had the Corvette motor, but de-tuned about 40HP worth. Still, with relatively minor modifications I had that 6300lb car running low 14s at the track.

And despite the desperate pleas of our national car club, GM went and ruined it. Then they were begging us to approve and accept that travesty of a replacement. Fat chance.

Was it de-tuned? I was under the impression that it lost the HP because it had longer-lasting steel cylinder heads, unlike the 'vette which had aluminum heads.

I used to own a 1985 Jaguar XJS before I was married with kids. God I loved that car. 12 cylinder, all weight in the front of the car and all the power in the rear. Sucked balls in any weather or crappy road conditions, be it snow or rain or whatever. But I didn't really care. I was 22 years old and I was driving a Jag. :D

The bulk of the de-tuning was in the head swap. The Impala came with 260hp and the base Corvette at 300. It was mostly done due to marketing. Couldn't have the family sedan with as much HP as the flagship Vette.

I've had a lot of cars over the years. Trucks, hot-rods sports cars and muscle cars (and I mean scary fast cars that would light your hair on fire).

I guess I'm getting old because "best car" now means super reliable, comfortable, great handling, with a touch of luxury. I've had this for about 5 years and it's all of that.

Four door family sedans with steel panels aren't light. What's more surprising is that my '79 Trans Am came in at the same weight.

Published specs on the 96-99 Impalas cite 3400 to under 4100 pounds.

The '79 Trans Am was spec'd at 3490 pounds.

Are we talking different units of weight here?

Yeah, I was thinking more in the near-4,000 lb range for the Impala. Larry's numbers seem about right.

My first-gen VW Scirocco (stripped down for racing but street legal) weighed in under 1500 lbs. That 150 hp pocket rocket stunned more than a few BMW and 260Z drivers. :D

People always poo-poo mall horsepower figures, like the 130 for my Formula Fords. But when you find out the car itself weighs under 1,000 lbs, whoa!

The down side of that is that driver weight matters so much... 8;)

I had a guy in a big honking black Chevy pickup pull up next to me yesterday and jokingly ask if I wanted to run for pink slips. With the Mini at 185hp for 2480 pounds,I told him he'd have to be putting out at least 400 BHP to have a chance -- and then the aero would kill him as soon as we got near the ton.

Freakin LOVE my Prius and would get another in a heartbeat.

Other favorite car i've had was a 2006 (maybe) Saab 95 got an absolutely amazing deal on it from a dealer with low miles, within a 2 years my wife was stopped at an intersection, ford bronco or similar SUV hits her at 30mph, Saab is built like a tank. She walks away unharmed but the Saab is totaled.
We decided not to get another 95 based on the fact she was driving too fast in it. If you weren't looking at the Speedometer you wouldn't know you were doing 90.

Sorry that the pics aren’t better. Bought this 24 days ago. And I already love it. And it’s not even loaded with all the bells and whistles (it’s only an XLT) like most of my previous vehicles. But love it!
I have to like it for what it is, but, man couldn't you wait for something intermediate to be posted, before you posted a truck right after a Tarmac Poem? :p:LOL: :LOL:

Just bought my dream car. 04 tbird roadster.

As you can see, I've always gone for low weight and great handling. Higher powered cars would have just made my license disappear faster.
Somewhere in there were also three extended length vans, for hauling stuff. The last one was a 2008 Ford, 302 V8, sold last year after the move to FL.
