Elliptical LED Table Build (2020) (3 Viewers)

How did you determine the size required for 10 people? Looking to build a similar shaped table in the spring. We mainly play with 8, but I’d like to be able to fit up to 10 if needed, any recommendations on size? Also I’m thinking of putting folding legs to be able to store away. Is that table easy to move at that size?
The table is very heavy and takes two people to move. The extra piece of wood on the bottom pushed the weight over the top.

I looked at a few articles about table size. For 10, I knew I'd need most of the maximum length of a full 8-foot board. I cut it down to 92" b/c that's as short as I thought I could go for storage purposes and still sit 10 players. The table is 46" wide, which is slightly wider than the recommendations I was seeing. But I wanted more room and less of a "pointy" look. With the curve, it's has worked out just fine. I haven't' done it, but I think it will be fine for 10 as the curve itself gives some extra shoulder room. I don't think you could go any smaller for 10. Eight will be comfortable.

Yes. That was the hope and the reality. It is, however, still difficult to deal from the ends. The continuous curve also gives a little more shoulder room for all players than a traditional oval.

Truly awesome build, thanks for sharing. I'm inspired to try something similar at some point. The ellipse seems to work great - I'm just wondering whether a betting line would look weird at the endpoints.

Wanted to thank you for sharing, I had some differences but this was great inspiration. I also find it hard to photograph this table shape

Wow, this looks amazing! Did you have a build thread to link? I'd love to see some "in progress" pics!

Where did you get your custom felt? I've always thought that a betting line wouldn't work with the ellipse (or it would at least be hard to describe the exact shape to the printer), but yours looks great.

@Samoth311 - Thanks, I didn't really take enough photos for a build thread. I might put something together and post, it would be more of a lessons learned / things I think went well type of a post.

I grew up framing houses and rough builds for things around the house, I lean more towards making larger things, shelves, bookcases.. where more precision type stuff I can get close enough, but nothing compared to @alecnetwoodworks finished products. He made the chip tray, I wanted something smaller than you can find online, and the custom felt was @T_Chan. I really enjoy this community and prefer to support it when I can.

My rail hangs off the table about 1", and I wanted the betting line larger (or further from the rail) than typical, it took us some emails and discussion but he nailed it. It was very tedious lining it up on the table, but in the end, it came out well.
