Do you guys play with your "minty" $5+ a chip set? (1 Viewer)

Of course the sets see play. Otherwise, what's the point of having them?
This maybe? Except with chips...

Play em! I found out quickly that mint chips are only nice for photos. All my players hate playing with mint. Personally I prefer excellent condition chips, they shuffle the best and still look great in photos.

I see a lot of people with some really nice looking chips and in some cases "upgrading" condition from what appears to be nearly perfect (sharp edges, no fleabits) to even closer to perfect and spending even more money than $5 a chip.

In the situation described above: Do you just admire how they look or do you actually use them?

Just curious...

I hear you. I always buy used chips as I'm gonna play them. They're cheaper and you don't have to worry about their condition any more. I'm equally puzzled by everyone's deep pockets for mint/minty chips, but smaller used market is good for me so I don't really care why anymore. :D

Of course I play with them, but my set is way larger than I need. I usually play with a few friends, so on any given night, most of the chips in my 2 table tourney set don't come out of the rack. This cuts down on wear. Even so, chips are pretty robust. To get chips worn down to the level they are in a casino, you'd have to be abusing them 24/7 for years.

Hosted a Cash Game on Saturday. Used the HSI $1 Secondary chips for the first time. We had 8 players but did not even get to put the HSI $5s secondary into play since only one person bought back in ($25 buy-in min up to $50).

I just got a message that the HSI $25 Secondary arrived in the mail. I guess maybe I didn't need those...lol.

Better safe than sorry!

I’ve got different sets for different audiences.

Dunes commemorative china cheapo set for beer drinking kids. Don’t care if any get lost.

HSI primary set for cash for people who can appreciate real casino chips. Don’t care if they’re chipped further.

CDI 05 set for people who can appreciate minty Paulsons (really no one in my circle), but I would be annoyed if any get seriously damaged or lost.

Work in progress set with Jack Detroit 5s and HSI secondary 25s to start. Probably only a PCFer would even know the significance.

omg you have those mysterious smudge spots. I've not seen that outside of casino chips. any idea where that comes from?
