Difference in Paulson chips (1 Viewer)

Then THC is the safest bet, and everything else is a No. Those lucky 21s or RHC won't hold the same value. They are a great chip to get to enjoy and play with, but they are more likely to slowly lower then a THC set. But even with that forecast, Jack RHC raised, and that's a rarity.

Why not just buy a set you love and can afford, and never sell it.
Yes yes there’s always that. With that being said, what could I expect to pay for a nice used set of THC? Something that’s not rare or special but just a solid set of chips all the way around.

$1.5/ chip for the lucky 21s sounds pretty expensive to me. At least the $5s and $25s should be priced way lower than that, probably closer to 75c/chip, imo. The $100s around $1 each or maybe a bit more, as they are definitely the coolest of the bunch.
I agree with this. But I’ve never paid much attention to them because they’re casino used house molds from somewhere obscure. Which is probably true for a majority here. Which is why they won’t increase in value and could decrease.
Not to bash them. They’re good chips. Better than what most of the world plays with. But in the hierarchy of Paulson chips, they’re probably not in the top half.
but again, what you’ve got here is the top few percent of chip snobs in the world so our opinions aren’t normal.

THC is gonna range for soso at a buck a chip, to wild a nice for 350-450 a rack, to more then that. RHC and house mold can be considerably cheaper.

Thank you for your advice, eBay has quite the prices for sure :) any private sites that are decent?
Just here. Classifieds or vendor sales. I wouldn't send you anywhere else. You can also find where chips previously were sold at. I did buy my friend a set of these, and I thought they were fantastic. I even dug the house mold.

Stay away from eBay until you have a good base to work with. You'll be more likely spending more then "finding a deal" until you know exactly what your looking for and base prices...

Go to https://www.pokerchipforum.com/forums/the-chip-room.21/

If he's selling it and you like it, it's most likely priced very fair...

Apache is good. He’s always got some Paulson sets in stock, which you really can’t say about any other online retailer. You might pay him a little more than you’d pay in the classifieds here, but you also have the security of working with an established etailer, and that’s worth something.

Very nice! Wish I could score a set like that for that price.

Patience is key here my friend. Do reserch, buy the occasional shuffle stack. Not saying live on PCF but refresh regularly. The right set will pop up. They always do. Have you thought about break downs? Cash/Tourney, number of players, stakes, total bankroll for the set? There are tons of pages about all of this info on here. The Definition of a set can be very very different from one person to another.

A set mainly for the family/friends, no tourneys or anything like that. 4-8 players and that’s pretty much it. I know some may think it’s dumb to purchase nice chips for family/friend use but that’s what me and my wife want to do, we love to have nice things and we want a nice set of chips to use Lol.

Absolutely nothing wrong with any of that! Our home game so far is usually 8 - 10 people family and friends. I build most sets for 30 - 40 as a travel set for a local meet up... mostly because I am obsessed with chips!! We need tot tally rebuild our finished basement to consider getting 3 tables down there... not even really in the plans yet.

Something else to consider, are you going to be teaching the games or are most already familiar with playing poker? If you're bringing fresh blood to the table and mostly family you may want to consider a micro set. Meaning $.05/$.10 blinds with a $10 or $20 buy in to keep it friendly. If you stack a family member in a cash game for $100 plus it can quickly make some bad blood! Playing for $10 or $20 usually doesn't have the same result.

Not telling you what to play just something to think about...

No teaching except for the kiddos. How many chips are considered in a micro set?

More than likely everything will be kept low, more for fun than a lot of money if that makes sense. Buyins probably will be $10, blinds less than .50

I was in your shoes about 10 years ago, new to these forums and looking around. Most of the paulsons floating around at reasonable prices are coming from Jim @TheChipRoom he is a vendor/member here. He has agreements with certain states that he can buy and resell obsolete casino chips. He has his own subforum here. He gets shipments of entire casino lots and when he does he likes to offload them quickly instead of sell them piecemeal over time. They are always extremely fairly priced. The downside is that the chips sell out in minutes and you have to be both prepared and lucky to snag a proper set.

I bought my first chips this way, and my second chips this way. You just missed an onslaught of chips Jim has been offloading over the last year. He hasn’t announced anything recently, but keep an eye on him. Jim will strike again. When he does, be ready. He usually gives some hints and eventually shows the chips and then sets a specific date and time. The. You must pounce.

Hard for anything to lose value if you buy them at Jims prices, you won’t find cheaper.

Look at Jims forum and look at the last sales. Study it. Because for the most part, that’s where a lot of the lower prices available chips came from.

Happy hunting, be patient, if money is an issue at all, wait a bit to really understand the market of paulson clay. I have about 4000 chips, all of which I got at steals of a deal with confidence I could resell them for at least what I bought them for. Probably more.

Great! I really appreciate you letting me in on this info. I will definitely keep an eye on it for sure:)
Is there a certain link to access his sub forum?

The 3 gray lines top left of the screen. Click the first one "Forums" scroll down to the Vendors. Jim with "The Chip Room" is the first one.

Reason or intended purpose has NOTHING to do with this hobby! That's my take on it. I don't have any use of my chips since February, and I won't ever again perhaps, who knows really. I keep on buying. It's completely mental and reason has got no place in this gig. Just have fun! Find what you like and go for it. You can find everything you need, right here on PCF. The vendors and fellow chippers can help make most of your dreams come true...MOSTLY! There are sets you won't be able to get probably once you've discovered them all!

I believe the term "micro", is applied to a cash set of chips designed/purposed to run micro stakes. (5c/10c and 10c/25c etc)

There so so many sets that we like and it’s to not just jump and buy something.

@CDKL, welcome to the forum. The great info available here (and the PCFers that make it possible) can be dizzying at first! By now, you've probably realized that there are few absolutes in the chip world (other than Big Top being the ultimate grail set ;) ). That being said, there has been a lot of Lucky 21 discussion on this thread and I have a few first-hand comments to add about them.

-they were initially available at under $1 each and occasionally are available via the PCF For Sale forum for similar pricing, so they are good entry-level Paulson chips
-if you like the design & house mold chips (which I do), then they are an even better value
-Apache still sells them for a reasonable price --> https://www.apachepokerchips.com/?s=lucky+21
-Lucky 21 chips weigh about 9 grams and feel pretty good, however, they do not have the highest-quality feel of a Mirage house mold chip which weighs 10 grams, for instance
-the labels are fairly easy to remove and due to the thick plastic cover over the label, leave a nice deep recess for new labels, see this link for Lucky 21 fracs that I created with help from forum vendors

As others have suggested, go with what fits your budget and what you'll enjoy using. It's a fun hobby.

Thank you for sharing the Info, I ordered a sample set for Apache and received those yesterday.
And yes I have came across quite a few helpful people so far, it’s going to be an interesting journey:)
