I promised to share an image of what every backer will receive regardless of reward tier: your choice of an embossed 4x6 ace in the four suits! I will be using a letterpress to do these, which I look forward to using.

Thank you for the responses on the yellow color. The color combo will be revealed once the stretch goal is reached.

I bet there's a reason that you don't see many yellow backed playing cards

Jason, is there a kickstarter started? I will definitely order, just tell where.

Ok, sorry everyone that it has taken me awhile to respond. Crazy week and with it being a birthday weekend and Easter, it was non stop excitement. I have sent the kickstarter project over for review and I suspect it will launch on Tuesday. I want to make sure that I have everything in order so that it is easy to follow for every backer. T-shirts will be included as an item to purchase as well. Thank you for your patience and let's make this happen.

Can't wait! In for everything (y)

Still no word on approval from Kickstarter which is rather frustrating to say the least. Hopefully tomorrow I can launch the campaign. Because of the delay I am shortening the campaign period from 45 days to 40. My apologies everyone, I am at their mercy here.

Approval received everyone! I will post the live link when I get home from work in about 4 hours. I will look it over one more time before going live. Do me a favor: let me know if anything needs clarification especially the rewards.(y)

So I've never done a KS before.......do we just "order" what we want and pay, or how does this work?
I'll be ready either way!

Yeah this is uncharted territory for me as well. Will be buying at least 1 setup.

HOW IT WORKS
  • If you don't have a Kickstarter account, you will need to make one (I think this involves adding your credit card info).
  • Then, go to the link that will be posted later today and select to pledge for whatever "reward" you want (they are on the right side, and I'm sure Desjgn will have plenty of options for us to choose from)
  • Then sit back and wait for the Campaign to be fully funded.
  • Note: Your credit card is not charged until the Campaign has met it's goals and is "funded."
  • If the campaign does not meet its minimum funding goal - then no one pays anything and the cards will not be made.
Here's a sample link to another playing card campaign. NOTE - this is NOT the JDesign campaign!

how does this work?
Basically.

Phase 1: The campaign. This is where the producer/publisher is actively seeking pledges towards a certain monetary goal over a specified number of days. Pledges are collected based on "rewards" and their costs. Essentially you're choosing what decks you want & how many, and you pledge that amount to the campaign. This continues until the campaign period ends.

Its important to note that no money is actually debited from your accounts until the campaign period ends and the funding threshold has been met or exceeded. If the campaign doesn't raise at least enough pledges to meet the funding threshold, then nothing happens.

Phase 2: Production. Assuming the minimum funding threshold was met, this is the period in which funds will be debited from your account, KS takes their 10% cut, and the rest is forwarded onto the creator. The creator will then produce the product. This period is known as "hurry up and wait" to the backers, because its boring.

Phase 2.5: The survey. The creator will either use a backer kit or the native tools within Kickstarter to issue a "survey" to all the backers where you enter your shipping details, possibly order more products, and/or tack on any additional notes necessary to make your order right and whole and complete. The survey is a pretty big deal. When you get the email about your survey, complete it right then.

Seriously. Don't wait. The #1 reason people fail to receive their KS rewards is because they forgot to complete the survey or they made a typo on their address in the survey. Don't let this be you.

Phase 3: Fullfilment. At this point all rewards have been produced, and the creator initiates the process to ship them to you. This happens either by a vendor like ShipNaked (a curiously-named but benign fulfillment specialist) or - what's more likely in this case - the creator just does it themself, or with the help of a couple friends or family members. Often times you'll receive a tracking number during this process. If you receive one you can trust the tracking number itself, but never ever ever trust the arrival date that is estimated. KS reward shipping is notoriously slow unless the vendor packages and ships directly with USPS or UPS. FedEx is second longest. DHL seems to want to ship their product through the Panama Canal via duck before you receive it at your door.

Coincidentally, this is also the process in which babies are made.

Sorry for whining, but I am so sick of having to create accounts for everything.

If it helps, you can signup with an existing Facebook account...

In this case, it's the only thing that makes sence. You are making a commitment to support the producer. Someone would back out, and possibly jeopardize the whole project (perhaps for their own nefarious purposes). By giving up your credit card, Kickstarter can basically make sure everyone honors their commitments.

Think less of it as "buying" a product, and more "supporting" a producer, who agrees to give you product, special mentions, or otherwise predetermined rewards for said support.
