Current not-so-secret group buy? (3 Viewers)

@Marhault My plan exactly. I have a 1200 chip Milano set and I’ve just started the process of S-l-o-w-l-y acquiring Horseshoe Cinci chips.

I just think sometimes we need to step back and get a grip. I see some of the most beautiful chip sets imaginable and it will be $500 a rack and it blows me away. I can’t even imagine. Mostly I’m just being whiny because I’m not in that market/world and I’m envious. XD

also no get a grip stepping back for me either. I don't have the roll to go shopping for Ferrari's, doesn't means others shouldn't or they are overpriced.

Long ago a had 6 racks of Mapes and no 1s...call it a Ferrari test drive. I learned I didn't even want to try going down that rabbit hole, sold 'em off and haven't bought a TRK chip since. They are fantastic chips, I'm happy to look or drive/play with someone else's. Sometimes I think about it but....nope. Rock on TRK collectors, you have my full support.

I’m a new chipper. This market is horrendous. Anything even remotely nice is thousands of dollars. As it stands, I’ll be slowly collecting from reliable sites as long as I can because I personally don’t have that kind of disposable income and in my opinion anything over $2 per chip is fleecing the market unless what you’re selling is rare or something. It’s too much.
Some chips cost more than $2 directly from the manufacturer.
Also the prices are dictated by supply and demand. Blame the people for buying  :ROFLMAO:

But yeah, taking advantage of people with addiction is awful, shame on you guys!

I can sense the saltiness in the air. :nailbite: :dead:

I’m not against making money off chips, whether it’s flipping (sell really fast after you buy) or profiting after holding it longer. To me it’s the same thing.

I just find @Lemonzest’s comment about his only regret is not selling the SB chips for higher kind of like rubbing it in to everyone’s face. That kinda made me wanna barf.

Then you don't look at PCF as a community. Because imo, you don't take advantage of your community for a few dollars

There are some positives that come from the secret group buys.
  • Sales on chips that are otherwise hard to pry loose are *awesome*.
  • Keeping the deep pockets busy chasing the new shiny is a godsend to those of us hunting for the old shiny.
  • Most boats float in a rising tide. This makes profit opportunity for those who have been at this a while with older nice sets. Also makes some seriously great deals on entry level Paulson sets. I would have killed for some of these when I was rocking my NJ chips as a baby scrub donkey on CT.
I don't like how we've become as a whole since the boats but the items above are pretty awesome. There are still underground factions that treat each other right.

On the lighter side...
There has been at least one critical flaw in nearly all of the new sets that keep my lust at bay so maybe it is less painful for me ;)

I beg to differ on that. I find those two things (money vs community) as independent of one another. But it’s completely fine to have different opinions.

This. Some peeps have had to wait for chips due to my idiocy, but overall I’m not a bad chipper, have hooked up some folks, and am always on the lookout for a way to provide value.

And I highly doubt I’m a member of this community still today if I hadn’t ran into great community minded members (which happened to include @detroitdad ) before other...more inwardly focused members.

If making money off you guys is the trick, I'll sell you the hound dog set for 500 shipped.

It's a perfect plan.....

Lol, I love how everyone here is Robin Hood when the topic of "flippers" comes up in the drama threads. Yet somehow, we never see these people listing their chips in the classifieds at below market prices. They'll pretend as though they'd buy up hundreds of thousands of chips if they had the chance, ponying up & risking their savings, just so that they could turn around and offer them back to the "community" at cost.

Perhaps I should design a set of Robin Hood themed Paulson customs! I'll take out a mortgage on my house for you guys. I'm not worried about anything going wrong! My dreams are made of steel! You guys can have all the chips at cost! Let's order 1 million chips! And don't worry about the costs of any associated risks of potential criminal liability on my part in acquiring said chips. Those don't count! Free chips for everyone!!! We can also mandate that no one is ever allowed to resell them for more than they bought them from me for. I'm confident that 3 years from now, we'll be able to look in the classifieds and still see them all selling for $1 per chip, because everyone here is a Robin Hood!!! :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO:

Good times, good times.

I have. If not bekow cost, then usually at cost. I can promise that i never have, or would ever purchase chips for the intent purpose of raping the community for every penny that i could.

I guess it's no surprise what side of the fence your on

That's some good trolling right there....

Oh... Wait... You're serious....

This thread, along with other things recently is a sad indictment of what large chunks of the chipping community has become. No wonder all the content has gone and most members just stick to text groups and meetups.

I'm kinda over it :(

And @RainmanTrail I like you a lot (despite your sometimes questionable comments) but you have to admit, you are also very prone to a fair bit of white knighting (often I agree with you when you do). So you can't fault people for trying to uphold community values.

Higher? Damn.... I'm glad I was able to get a "well" priced set from you. I'm okay with someone taking the risk of trying to get customs from Paulson and then sell them to the community at an up charge. IMO, a person's efforts and risk needs to be compensated. That being said, 500-600% profits are pretty gross and definitely on the side of greed.

I’ve listed under. I’m giving up the barrel of 100s I desperately wanted to help out another chipper. And I’ve been working on a legitimate method to get a hundred thousand or two chips to turn around and offer the community, because I have a small window where it would be financially tenable, and what a coupe it would be. I wasn’t here for most of the previous buys, and I applaud them! Who isn’t trying to obtain amazing product and share with their neighbor!

Your example of someone taking, at the very least, semi devious actions that may have criminal liability or implications for the sole reason to make money off of a niche, very tight community...well I don’t think the means or the ends look good.

It's all a matter of perspective. One person thinks, "if he were truly my friend, he would have sold me his ounce of gold for $600 instead of $1450 because that's what he paid for it." The other person thinks, "if he were truly my friend, he wouldn't be trying to get me to sell him my ounce of gold for $600 when it's worth $1450."

I'm one of the most generous people you could ever meet in real life. People at work joke about always owing me money because I constantly pay when we go out to lunch. Need something from me that I can spare? It's yours. Need my help? You got it. Thirsty? It's on me. Hungry? It's on me. Cold? Here's my jacket. Sold me some cool chips before at a good deal and now you want them back for the same price since I no longer need them? Done deal. They're yours. Need to borrow money for something urgent? How much? Going through a hardship and need some help? Here's a blank check. Having surgery and need someone to look after your kids while you're in the hospital? No problem. Need to borrow my truck to pick up some furniture? Here's the keys.

You want my best chips at below market prices, only so I can watch you resell them later for what they're actually worth to someone else, or to resell them to someone else at your cost who then resells them to someone else later at market value, just because we both post comments on the same website? I'll pass.

I've had nothing but good experiences with you so you will always get my +1 if someone asked.

And I say that with the utmost respect as someone who very much so has enjoyed your recent offerings!

I think some people get confused around here with market price and premium price. People can profit. More power to them. But when it feels like the community is just a money funnel instead of... Well, a community, it can rustle some Jimmy's.

I honestly would erase every "secret buy/not buy/whatever the fuck they are called" chips in a heartbeat if I could. I think they divided the community too much and keep flaring up like this. It's nothing about the chips, chips are great. I love chips. But the community is what I enjoy. Yeah. We got chips. It's flooded the market, causes a near bi weekly frusteration sessions. Created market paranoia (I mean, I had 4 people message me about group buys when I was selling shit to buy more shit).... I would Thanos the shit out of them. And I wouldn't regret it for a second....

But. I can't. I don't have a power gauntlet... Hell, Im scared what I might do to just feed myself tonight. So. We just repeat this until the next "whatever buy" happens. Everyone freaks out, they sell for 10 bucks a chip, then resentment starts. Eventually, what we have won't be worth what we invested, and trading will take over because perceived value vs actual money will be different.

Then it'll be like Mad Max. I wanted two movie references in this post.

USPS fucking pissed me off today and delayed my chips for two days because they didn't feel like knocking on the door. So.... I'm drinking beer. I'm sorry you just read all of that.
