No! Not the goose! Shit!

Idk where to really put this but since everyone craps on CPC yellows, I guess it's controversial.

It makes me very happy to see @Cratty @JMC9389 and @Fran all use Canary so well in their new sets. Sure CPC colors can be limiting (or can be an excuse :ninja:), to an extent, but it takes a good designer to overcome that and use it to their advantage. Good shit gentlemen.

Edit - Forgot @Gus

1) Denominations are unnecessary for home sets unless your regs’ average IQ is below 70

2) Ceramics are all garbage

3) Ditto all house molds

4) Collecting singles is good therapy for OCD sufferers, and nothing else
I always have noticed those who complain about non-denominational chips I feel play worse that might be because I have played and been invited to many home tournaments and those are the guys who jam with absolute junk. Idk why but my strange observation playing tournaments at home and private games.

Alright I might get flamed for the second opinion.
1. Non denominational chips are amazing if you have multiple games you host dure to flexibility as I have hosted WAYY to many tournaments.
2. Solids are much more vibrant than chips with edge spots. People who complain about chips needing edge spots due to evaluating stack sizes is crazy talk in my eyes.

You have certainly found the spirit of this thread

First I agree with a lot. It really does not take much effort to get a table of interested players to remember chip values, and if they're not invested enough to figure that out then they'll probably be dull anyways.

For me, edge stripes might not be a strict necessity, but one of the big advantages of poker chips over any other similar thing is that you can more or less effortlessly track what other players are doing. I enjoy the pop of edge stripes for one, but also, anything that makes things even slightly more readable feels worthwhile. Don't want to annoy other players asking for clarification and such if not needed.

Maybe not an unpopular opinion, but definitely controversial.

This hobby starts out innocently enough. You just want to get some better chips for a home game.

Eventually, you realize all the best chips are locked beyond a generally insurmountable paywall unless you have impeccable timing or … maybe you know someone that has an inside connection. You know what I mean.

Anyway, this hobby has devolved into the haves and have nots. A true microcosm of the gilded age.

That’s fine though. Necessity breeds invention. A whole new class of problem solving.

I don’t think it’s controversial at all, and I don’t think anyone can disagree.

100% of my “forever” chipsets I have came from relationships. Literally and luckily. (And I’m very thankful to those people, and pass it along as best I can)

It’s a journey for sure, plenty highs, lows, fomo, and contentment.
Just know I’m doing my best for everyone. Everyone.
get it!

I think every time someone says “buy samples” (more than once in a new members post) or even more so when they mention “use the search function” you should have to pay $10 per usage of those terms… then at meet ups… lets say more than (7) verified PCF members playing in one room… anytime a Straight flush beats quads… you scoop the pot!

What the hell is so wrong with people joining and asking questions? We all had them, some ignorant introvert always has to chime in with “dude use the search function” what if I am looking for a specific answer and don’t care if someone else asked the question 200 times in a different manner? It’s a f**king poker chip forum, god forbid we talk about chips or set breakdowns.

I absolutely appreciate people like @BGinGA , @DrStrange , @upNdown and other veterans that stick around for years answering the same questions, or @inca911 Forrest teaching the learning table over and over… thank you all for all you have done to better the hobby!

But remember, all of you that say “use the search function” you could have just kept scrolling… nobody wants to hear that shit! If you don’t wanna answer, then don’t! Go yell at clouds man!

I will say the “new members start here” thing, that’s cool… but damn with the search function crap, damn I’m a chip nerd, ask me some nerdy questions! Lol

Easy answer.

Some are simple - question, answer, done.

Others regarding certain chips, manufacturers, breakdowns, etc. aren’t.

They’ll ask a common question, people will start answering, there’s a discussion (that mirrors the same previous 100 thread conversations), eventually the other/original thread will be necroed, both will simultaneously run, then the necroed will be the primary.

This will happen again. And again. And again. And again.

Unless there’s been a change in “the best breakdown for xyz” “where did that design come from” or whatever the topic is, by doing this we’ve now 1) made the search tool less effective, 2) made the similar threads functionality less effective, 3) made it more difficult to change and update the hierarchal structure and organization for future PCF updates.

Is it a big deal? No not at all. But figured I’d share that there are some reasons to do a cursory search (there’s prob more I’m not aware of. Just wanted to take a stab as I do really enjoy the organization/management {nontechnical} side of communication/membership management platforms - it’s what my last job did).

What about people that are like “what’s the best frac for my set?” And they won’t post their set so you have no idea colors denoms spot patterns. Then you just post a chip and they’re like “I already have a blue chip”. That’s why you post photo of the set first.

This has been discussed before, please use the search function

I find the search function to be awful. I now use ChatGPT to search the site. Unfortunately it often pops out results where a newbie is asking a question and the response is “use the search function”
