I haven't read anything on the subject but I also found it very odd that his dad ended up being murdered. Had to be something else to the story.
The same podcast has a wholly different episode on the murder of his father. I thought it wasn't conincidental to not be connected, but after listening to the podcast, I don't think his father was murdered over a gambling debt.
