Ever since I got the chance to be a drill sergeant at the very basic training unit I began at, I've had a fascination with bringing things back to their start. After I picked up my old set of Jack-Todd chips I began researching them just to know more about their history. The Jack Todd company was located at 103 W. 19th in Kansas City, MO.
This building is known historically as the "Hemmingway building". Originally constructed in 1865, the Hemingway Building underwent a significant transformation in 1915 when it was remodeled to serve as Kansas City Police Station No. 4. The first floor was home to the police station and a jail. The second floor held the Municipal Court, as well as offices for the judge and clerk. In 1917, Ernest Hemingway began his career at the Kansas City Star, and it is here that the legend begins. Sitting through court cases on the second floor, Hemingway and his fellow crime beat reporters would retire to an adjacent office to write the stories they submitted to the Star.
So, this one time police station went on to become the home of a poker chip company which sold to casinos as well as illegal gambling clubs and home games. The site today is a historic building and an event space. I cant stop thinking how cool it would be to setup a PCF group game there and play with original J-T chips. Bringing the chips "back home" again. I also cant think but how perfect the name is for a chip set... Its almost like I've seen some great chips with this already... @WhiteMamba1646
I know the coming comments of "well make it happen", lol. Some day. Its a goal. The company seems pretty "hoity toity" as my mom would say, so I'm not sure how much rental would cost but the impression is that its not cheap.
