Chips you dislike (1 Viewer)

I'm pretty new to the various styles of chips out there, but I did order a ton of samples from Apache and BR Pro to get a feel for what I like and what I don't.

Ceramics like Tiki Kings and Nevada Jack I like. Scrolls I don't - the design just looks rough to me. All due respect to @Hobbyphilic, but he and I have very different taste when it comes to Paulson and Next Gen Pro Classics. They're brittle and ugly, IMO. Same for hot stamps and the slick plastic ones like Monaco and Paulson Elite.

I cut my teeth on those slugged dice chips you see everywhere, and because of that I tend to prefer heavier chips. My current set is the Casino Royale from Apache. They're slugged but the plastic is well sanded. No flashing issues like I've seen on some videos. They'll hold me over until I can get my custom set made. It's with a graphic artist now.

Welcome, enjoy the journey!

Cromwell chips for the same reason Psypher said, only driven home more by the fact its the best place to play Blackjack on the Strip and I have to handle them a lot. The Linq doesn't get a free pass either.

PNY's

and the new Paulson home line. The same company that last gave us WTHC come back with these extremely boring chips and then lick and stamp an uninspired giant inlay on them for good measure.

Doritos should be abandoned the same day you outgrow Axe bodyspray. I shouldnt be able to smell your breath in Seat 8 while I'm in Seat 3, Eugene. and get your nacho cheesier fingers off of my Casablancas you lichen

Edit: typed Jack, meant Linq

How dare you suggest one can out grow ax body spray. It goes great as a base for my Brute.

I bought Brut because a girl I was fond of said she liked it. She didn't say she liked me, but no matter.

As long as I've been lurking on this site, this is my very first post.

Best.Thread.Everrrrrrr.

It really interests me the differences everybody has and how right everybody is.

I dont like most asms that I have ever had. The exception is the hhr molds. Even though I do like the hhr mold chips, i dont think they are anywhere close to being on the same level as paulsons or trks. I think the asms just dont feel as substantial as a Paulson chips. Even rhc paulsons feel way better to shuffle than any asm/cpc chip. This is what has kept me from buying a custom set. To get the spot patterns and colors I want, the chips would average 3.50+ each. I can get so many awsome, minty, leaded, thc paulsons for the same price or less.

I also am not a fan of ceramics. Any ceramics really.

Dont really like China Clay's either, although for the price they are a good value chip.
I use to hate the high quality plastic chips as well, but they have grown on me a bit. (Bj and matsui) The colors are great and they actually feel pretty good to handle. Out of the plastics I actually like the CIC chips the best. I own some matsui and bud jones cics and although they are not paulson or trk level, they are still pretty nice.

I like trks alot, but I like paulsons the best. Asms are ok, bjs/matsuis are ok most of the rest I dont like.

Trigger warning. Here's my list of dislikes. Still new so I could be saved or changed with more time.

1) Solids (show me the spots! More spots more better)
2) Hot Stamps (just not a fan, love a good inlay)
3) S crown and L crown (honestly could change this to any mold that's not THC or RHC, love me some Paulson top hats) but these 2 are the main hyped molds currently. I assume for history purposes and the back story was interesting, the looks just don't do it for me.
4) Most important for last - those rare chips I can't get my damn hands on no matter how much I want them!

Warning. These are my personal opinions from a month of chipping. Put the pitch forks down.
Exactly everything I like :-) Solid hot stamps, so classy in white ;-)

First of all: every one of you that hates the Empress hundo has been officially added to my block list. I love that chip, ya jerks.

While I definitely like some chips more than others, there are very few that I dislike. The one that stands out to me - mainly because they're in my hands so often - are the abominations used by the Orange City Racing and Card Club. This is my "home" card room, and they use godawful chips that I believe are ICONs:

They are slippery. There are lots of really bad spinners. Stacks of 20 barely hold up, and anything higher doesn't work. They chip and crack around the edges rather than wearing smoothly. The labels are busy and hard to read.

Basically, they suck.

I don't get all the hate for Ceramics. I think when the design is done well they can be great chips. I really do like the textured feel until they are worn out.

It is all relative to what is available. If there were only dice chips, china clays, and ceramics then I think people would all be raving about ceramics.

Personally, real paulson casino chips are just way more interesting. Paulsons feel better and IMO generally look better. People interested in the authentic casino experience and casino history won't dig ceramics.

I think I like ceramics more than CCs. Hard to put into words, but it has something to do with honesty -- like a ceramic chip knows what it is and what it's not. A CC's only purpose is a low-cost replacement for something else.

That said, I sort of want these chips: https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/cc-dunes-cash-set.34834/
