Yea... getting close enough to use a macro lens at a girl's volleyball tournament usually equates to some amount of prison time. :p

Jesus H. Tap-dancin' Christ, I feel like I'm going to go to prison just for reading that! I used to coach HS and college women's volleyball, and the idea of being accused of harrassment or worse always terrified me.

That’s where my trusty 180mm macro lens comes in handy ;)

(Stack of 83 chips for scale)

Tell me about it. My daughter was on the high school freshman team this year. Yikes!

Nice f*cking lens!

That's what she said....

She’s far more likely to have added the extra red words: “Nice, just what you need, another fucking lens”.

Before chips, the majority of the USPS MFRB that showed up on the front porch were lenses. I bought well over 200 lenses before I redirected my collecting efforts to tiny discs of clay.

Actually, it wasn't a cruise ship, nor was it a single cruise line. It was a company that operated casinos on a number of vessels, for different cruise companies. Possibilities were endless.

See... I didn't even know that. Thank you for the correction!!

It’s for when you want a really grainy, blurry and dark picture of your ex cheating. In broad daylight.

Actually it seems like the lens is fairly fast. Daylight works best, obv... but I was able to get clear license plate pics from many block away, in the dusk.

Any interesting stories?

Yup. :)

Nothing I can go into details here... but I’ve been shot at, car jacked, mistaken for a mafia hit man, grew my hair and beard for a 4-mo long undercover drug investigation, followed cheating spouses, outed scammers, and worked undercover as a bartender (that was fun).

And now I play poker...

I need to write a book someday.

A GPI sales rep in a foreign country was contacted by an individual(s) representing a cruise ship wanting to purchase chips for their casino. The ship did not exist in reality, but much effort was expended creating the illusion that it was a real, operating cruise ship. Orders were placed with GPI to secure chips for the ship. These orders were carefully structured so that they would be consistent in quantity and breakdown with what a cruise ship would order. When the limit was reached as to what such a cruise ship would reasonably order, the illusion of a second cruise chip was created and additional orders were placed for that ship.
Oh man! I want to see that movie!

I hope one day someone tells the whole story.

This was my idea for a movie script:

The organizer of the purchase pulls up to his house with a truck full of chips for the first boat order. Two masked guys with guns emerge from a parked car and take the keys to the truck and take off with all the chips! It's the poker chip heist of the century! But now they've got to unload thousands of chips without getting caught. The organizer of the GB can't report the theft to the authorities without exposing the whole deal, so it's up to the GB members to track them down. Tensions are high on the forum. Was it an inside job? Who can they trust??
