I'm new to the community and not feeling warmly welcomed so far with this Aurora Star stuff. I have been buying some chips in the classified section and am feeling a little taken advantage of by the whole Aurora Star folks selling their junk to me.

Complaining won't help, only thing to do about it now is:
1) Don't buy any more junk from them
2) Do another group buy

So what will it take to do another group buy? A bunch of people, someone good with money, and a chip designer. I'm none of those things, but am willing to put up 10K towards my part of the venture.

I sent a message to the GPI folks to see what it would take to make this happen. If we can't order directly, I figure we can find a small casino or card room to help us out. With all the internet gambling surely some are struggling and could use a little extra cash.

Who's up for it? Any "well respected" non Aurora Star members want to help head this up?

Can you explain how you were used by others to gain an advantage in this venture?

You forgot option 3) Do the same thing you did before you learned about the Aurora chips.

I have no idea of the likelyhood of this happening but for $10k you could buy one of these sets. Classifieds has several but yea the prices are kinda high. There will likely be a few nice sets sold for lower than normal price with the recent influx of nice sets available.

You can get promotional sets through Gemaco but the colors are limited. Others have tried to convince GPI to get some home market action but the Gemaco promo sets are the best option for now. I wouldn't try to force the action with GPI.

I understand feeling ripped off that you weren't included. I felt that way too and you have every right to feel that way, but to think that you're owed anything from the community is delusional.

Best option is to stay in tune with the forum going-ons, contribute and if an opportunity arises you're more likely to get a shot at a holy grail set.

The buy happened a year before you joined (there was no opportunity for you to be included) and the existence of these chips were outed 2 months prior to when you joined.

I’m sorry you feel unwelcome and taken advantage of, but weren’t all these facts apparent when you joined?

Good luck with your efforts finding the chips you want.
 
The key to another GB if finding the same GPI sales rep that got duped the first time. He is either really stupid or doesn’t care and just wants to hit his quota.
 
Probably referring to you calling him stupid or indifferent. Always great conversation starters. :D

I was merely trying to point out your comments/attitude were unlikely to assist in you in your endeavor to obtain more chips.

Lots of good posts. To answer a few off topic questions:
- Was I expecting to be in the last group buy? Nope. I did start watching the site a few months before posting anything, but clearly not in time to be part of the buy.
- What was I upset about? My personal beef was just with lack of transparency, I was counting on this site as a resource for information on the chip market and based on some more recent posts I got the impression that the transparency wasn't there. Would have liked to understand the possibility of getting chips at cost or the pending number of chips that would enter the market. If I missed some threads that could be my fault.
- Am I a troll? Sorta I guess. My post certainly had some undertones to it. I was trying to invoke a reaction to get more people to join the 2nd group buy and it seemed like the first buy was probably questionable folks.
- Why don't I buy the last buy's chips on the secondary market? LOL.


Back to the Borealis buy:
- Appreciate the PMs of folks expressing interest. Lets me know to continue pursuing
- In terms of path forward the plan is:
1) Wait a few days to see if contacting GPI makes any headway, try the straight forward route first
2) If #1 doesn't work after a week or so try to contact Rodrigo (thanks for the contact!)
3) If #2 doesn't work start contacting smaller casino's to see if I can find someone that will help us out. I will just start via email. If that doesn't pan out I've got a work trip planned near Mississippi which seems to be a haven for smaller casino's. I can take a day or two to stop by some for conversations.
 
One other thought I had on all this. Casino's order more chips all the time. Can the Aurora Star just place another order now that you don't have any fiscal liability and offer chips at cost to the community?

Seriously?

If the AS organizers run another group buy you can be damned sure it will be run via email, be done through a totally different angle, have no involvement with any forum, be an incredibly tiny party of 5-10 select people, and most likely never ever be made public. OK - maybe it will be made public in 4-5 years or so.

Too much of a sh*t show after the last one. Just not worth it.

The GB (or main honcho of the GB) pulled off the impossible: They bamboozled GPI. How they pulled it off, no one will ever know. It might be made public, it might be taken to the grave with them.

I doubt a second group buy would ever happen again because:

1) GPI may or may not have caught wind of them being hoodwinked. You know, fool me once and all that crap.
