Any interest in small PCF Powerball pool? (1 Viewer)

Explain this to me.

If it's a 1 in 292,201,338 chance of winning and the Jackpot is 1.5B and it's $2 per ticket then buying every number will guarantee a win - spend $600 million and win 1.5 billion?

Sign me up! Lose half taking a lump sum, then pay taxes on the remaining half? What a great idea! We will all owe millions together!

As dumb as it is, my Partner randomly checked her tickets about 6 Mo ago and got the "Go to Lottery Office" on one. Ended up having 10k on one from a few weeks before. It can happen.

Just not to me. Ever.

Cute story. Years ago, a co-worker's wife went to the casino with her friend who enjoyed playing the slot machines. Her husband said "When you spend x amount of dollars, stop." She calls him from the casino. "Honey, I just won $12,000, should I stop?" :ROFLMAO:  :ROFLMAO:  :ROFLMAO:

I bought two tickets around seven this evening. I asked the guy behind the counter if he had sold any lottery tickets. He said he had over $2K in lottery sales since 1:30. One customer bought 125 tickets and another 100.

That is it. I am outmatched. I don't stand a chance.

Jesus. I just checked, and out of 105 total lines, not a single line started with the starting powerball number: 28.
ooooof

next time, I’m letting my wife ask for the tickets!

You’re lucky it was one of the ones from a few weeks before checking. I think maybe lotteries require winning tickets be claimed within 180 days. Have your partner check every 3 months or something.

So we’re running it back for Monday right?

(Jackpot didn’t hit)
I’d like to! I’m happy to handle again, or let someone else. Besides, I was getting ready to ask how to handle the $8 we won — I’d like to put it towards a few extra lines for Monday’s pool If that sounds agreeable To folks.

Works for me

Do y’all do quick picks? Or randomize yourselves. And if self randomizing is it +EV to skew towards non calendar numbers, mostly over 32 and definitely nothing 1-12?

Edit: good luck finding any data of number frequencies on tickets (the only thing that matters). Just a bunch of news articles with bad math and logic

bc of the size of the pool, everything was random.

I’d like to start another thread with things a bit more clearer.

let it ride!!!!!

My gut reaction to this post was, "Pfft! It's random, so there's no way that skewing your picks will affect EV."

Then I thought about it, and you may be right. While there's no way we'll get any real data, it seems likely that combinations without calendar numbers might sell fewer tickets. So skewing away from these won't increase your chances of winning, but you could win more if one of these combinations hits.

$28 winnings gang!!!! @Josh Kifer you don’t have a chance standing up against me in an auction anymore! jk rollover money guys!
I’ll make another thread today with more details on pool and will have a list of everyone participating. Sorry for not doing that in this one, wanted to respect some private messages, and I didn’t specify in thread (rookie mistake). More to come!
