Wife is set on a holiday to China. I'm not really interested in that destination. Was thinking I could make it tolerable by somehow involving poker, strong preference on legal and not shady. Am struggling to find much info on poker in China. Anyone got info/tips.

There’s no legal gambling in China. Or pornography. Giant list of banned websites you probably take for granted and words you can’t say or write. They also have over a billion cameras with facial recognition to catch your ass. Will arrest you or anyone for any reason, real or not. Have a good time.

Macau is the only place in China where one can gamble legally.

I’ve never been but hear the gambling is extremely degenerate. Maybe @LeLe @Changster or @fishsaybloop can offer additional insight.

Gambling / Casino is not legal in China, with the Macau Casino being the only exception

China is a massive country with some incredible places to visit. Beijing has a lot to offer (forbidden palace etc) with the Great Wall not that far. Shanghai has its charms but it’s mainly a big city. Wherever you go, the food experiences will be incredible. I have an endearing memory of being taught to wrap dumplings in Beijing…

I don’t know what the typical stakes are in Macau but better to check before you commit. Last time I was in SE Asia and looking to get in a game, they suggested the average buy-in was $5k! The people who gambol tend to have big rolls.

There's more money in Macau than there is in Las Vegas. Chinese are serious degenerate gamblers. Be prepared to be inundated with cigarette smoke.

The last time I was there at Macau Casino, the smallest stake running is 100/200 hkd which is about $13/$26 so ya $5k which is about 200bb sound about right

Been in Macau laste year and stayed at the Venetian 2 or 3 nights. In case you are in Hong Kong or somewhere else close by I think a quick trip to Macau makes sense otherwise in my opinion not. Stakes are at all table games higher than Vegas as mentioned.

I have visited the Sichuan area around 2018/19. This was one of the most memorable holidays I had. But without any chinese speaking companions it must be hard. On the other hand other travelers e.g. from the U.S. seemed also enjoying their trip. But it must be very uncomfortable for a lot of ppl to manage navigating through a holiday trip without speaking the language and having no excess to google and so on besides in Hong Kong and Macau.

(Btw. Chip harvesting is also not very attractive )
