About 18 months into the Hobby... 45k plus in chips... do we have a problem? (10 Viewers)

Oh. Oh, oh, oh, you wonderful new chipper you.

When I first joined, I saw one veteran chipper's list of sets and estimated he had a quarter of a million dollars worth of poker chips. And that was a) before the five-fold price increases we've seen since the pandemic started and b) before a million-dollar-per-hand player started building his collection.

This has been a ridiculous hobby for some of us for a long time already.

There’s half a million plus in singles value

Ok... kind of stupid and I kmow... but my PCB collection officially can no longer squeeze into a white box. With my addition of finally finding the $500 it just didn't feel right in cardboard anyways. So I found this old wooden box @MegaTon44 gave me and my silly little collection of The Prisident Casino Biloxi Mississippi officially has a new home

Will it ever become something other than a display... probably not, but I can dream right? One of my favorite $25s of all time. Used to buy these for like $4 - $5 each and now they sell for $40... probably never finish that rack but so is life!
Wow, had never seen these chips before, but a full set of these would be my chipping nirvana.
  • Leaded THCs? √
  • Classic (e.g., $5, $25) but also less common (e.g., $1, $100) colors/spots (with no dirty stack issues)? √
  • Tasteful, readable, shaped inlays? √
  • Used but good condition (best for actually playing poker with)? √
Hope you make it to a playable set of these beauts, @Ben8257!

Agreed. This casino was destroyed in a hurricane and the chips ended up all over. Putting together a playable set of these will be a labor of love, if even possible.

I always admired these chips as old-time great examples of what casino chips should look like. I used to do business with the Treasure Bay Casino up the beach and would play at the President. Unfortunately it was pretty tired.

Good luck Ben!

There are actually 2 playable sets known... there is a bread crumb trail here on PCF to them... I'm not going to call out their owners, I'm like 17th in line to own one of them and the owner has absolutely no plans of letting it go! Lol

Also last night was a good one... finally hit my goal on the quarter limit set. When this thing started I just wanted different colored racks of quarters for a $.25/$.50 limit set for teaching new members Circus games. @Beakertwang mentioned "running this $.75/$1.50 limit" how bad ass would a 3/6 chip limit set be... monster pots of mixed colors. But now my idea of everyone buying for a single rack of quarters no longer made sense. We would need to buy in for $50 and get two racks of chips.

I realize that most mixed games only work for 7 or less players but many you can play 8 handed. So the goal became 8 colors of 2 racks each. I don't much care if the stamps match... it's a $50 buy in and they are leaded THC quarters for the most part. Hopefully in time I can get to 2 racks on a couple more. The case holds 2,100 chips and I plan to do Plaques called "Washington's Round Up" at some point for $5 and a few $20 plaques.

Anyways yesterday with my 10 yellow quarters find at the convention I finished the second rack of yellow and completed 8 colors of 2 racks each

Would love to finish the Rail Road Pass or Riversides and get the 40 Brown Horshoe out of there... but that is the set so far!

This could also do double duty as roulette set!

Finally dug down in the cases stack and pulled out the Foundations to add the rack of Kings quarters

We ran this with the Snappers last time and no one had issues with $2.50s used for $.25... it definitely tilts my OCD bad. Figure if we are ever using them for a single table I can use these stamps instead. Still plan to relabel the $1s though!

Super excited about this one.. so no mystery that I love my Artichoke Joe's Micro cash set. There are many rack of thr Nickles and Dimes in circulation, but the higher denoms are almost impossible to find in any quantity. I have been working on a mixed rack of RHC and THC $1s for almost 3 years paying prices that would make most absolutely sick. I did manage to put together 170 of thr beautiful Gold $4 peanut chips, but the $20s are literally impossible to find. With help from @John Conor who has been overly generous I have only managed to get to (10) chips. Not much help for the top end of the set.

I spoke with a very good friend @BSteck Who took it upon himself to help me out in designing a custom plaque for the higher denoms. We have had the art work for a while but couldn't find the perfect plaque. I wanted old school ceramic to match the "age" of the chips, but most ceramics are too big. I wanted something smaller and more resonable. I recently found Nick at Texas Poker Supply, a vendor here that offered several different sized ceramic plaques. Nick was very professional and amazing to work with. You guys made my dream a reality!!

That's enough of a Ben Book! LOL picture time!

I could have gone with spots and made them.a bit more flashy, but with the age if the set, all solids and 414s it just seemed perfect to go with solids. Brie loves the matte finish over the typical glossy finish of Ceramics, almost adds to the "age or Patina" of the set.

Splash em time!!

Had to change the "guts" of the case out and reconfigure the lay out. Absolutely perfect and they are all ready for @MegaTon44 Meet up in September, as they have been request by my amazing friend Brian @Klobberer to hit the felt

Also tagging @Poker Zombie as recently MJ got a chance to play the "Ugly Duckling" set and thoroughly enjoyed them.

There are many sets of poker chips out there, even many in our collection. But these are my babies!

Thanks for taking a look friends! Someday this set will be perfect, in for the long haul on this one!

Literally can't believe I found 11 souls to click on this thread! Normally my posts here average like 3 - 4 likes! Lmao

Thank you all for the responses, I know this set is just weird, spotted, not spotted, weird color combos it goes on and on, but I love them! The $4 chip can be quite tilting to some people... but just another aspect that makes me love them even more!

You guys are awesome... or hiding indoors with nothing to do because it's over 100° basically everywhere in the US today! Haha

I demand a .05/.10 cent game with 600 dollar stacks. Biiiiigggggg ollllll stackkkkkksssss

ITS BEEN 19 MONTHS. WHY HASNT THIS QUESTION BEEN ANSWERED.
It was answered... but also rhetorical. I already knew I had a problem... but also I don't think I can change the title now?

"I know we have a problem... but need a place to post our rediculous hoard of Sh*t!" Would that be better Kifer? Lmao

So freaking cool! These were released in 1982... 40 years ago, I turned 40 2 weeks ago and here it is, willing to bet this is the first time 2 racks have been together in a Longggg time!

(Sorry had to use the flash) 200 beautiful Arc Yellow Riverside quarters! @FordPickup92 and I have made many accomplishments in this hobby in our short 3 1/2 years... but I am pretty proud of this one!

Thank you @bluegill , @ReallyGoodUsername and @kaimat who are among the greater contributors, 2 years serching bins and books at the convention. It was totally worth it!

About 8 of them do not have perfect stamps, so not going to say 100% yet... but totally playable.

Now just to find those pesky Rail Road Pass pinks and I can be finished with this hunt!

The quarter limit set is almost there!
