I’m going to be running a 2 table tourney(18 players MAX) before my normal cash game and just want some suggestions on my blinds levels. Here is what I have so far.

10k starting stack with 1 rebuy till end of round 8. 20 min blind levels. (1) 5K add-on (basically to cover food) Looking for it to last 4-5 hours

Thank you for any help!!!

I would only do rebuys till the end of level 4. At level 8, you would be re-buying with only 10BB. That's just adding to the shove fest.

@beakerwang do you think I should just run a 0 rebuy tourney?
No, rebuys are great. You just don't want people to be buying in late, when the blinds are bigger, so all they can do is go all-in. At level 5, 10k is 40 big blinds, which gives you the ability to play a little poker yet. I would end rebuys at the end of level 4. But that's just me. I'm certainly no expert.

You may want to adjust your blind schedule to even it out. Quite honestly, I would never play in a tournament with a jump from 500/1000 to 1000/2000. Maybe something like:

  • 50/100
  • 75/150
  • 100/200
  • 150/300
  • Break - Chip Up
  • 200/400
  • 300/600
  • 400/800
  • 600/1200
  • Break
  • 800/1600
  • 1100/2200
  • 1500/3000
  • 2000/4000
  • Break - Chip Up
  • 3000/6000
  • 4000/8000
  • 6000/12000
  • 8000/16000
  • Break
  • 11000/22000
  • 15000/30000
  • 20000/40000
  • 30000/60000

Rebuys will extend your tournament time, so don't forget to figure them in with your calculations for estimating end time.

Without rebuys and assuming everybody adds on, you're looking at it ending around the 6k/12k level using the 5% rule, or around levels 13/14.

Subject to me not fat-fingering the calculator, of course.

Edit: That time is based on a full 18-player tournament.
