In case people missed the convo going on in the Classifieds, I thought I'd post here that Discount Poker Shop has the Versa cases back in stock. While it's not a Pelican case, it is one of the beefier of the "standard" chip cases. Here are some comparo photos. And @Hobbyphilic did a video review of the 500 chip unit.

I knew I should've gotten my mom something...

Burning question, for anyone who has one: can those tubes fit 43mm chips?
I've been told no, but I wonder if that's a "definitely not" or "not ideal."
I have a cheap Amazon case that has that same kind of rounded bottom tray, and it will hold 43mm chips, but they touch. It's a deal breaker for some. They fit a little better in the Amazon case if you alternate 39's and 43's.
So I'd love to see pictures of somebody actually trying it with the versa case.
Here's some pics of the versa case empty, the Amazon case empty so you can compare them, and the Amazon case packed with big chips.
See why I'm wondering if it would work with the versa?

This is what happens when you try to store 43mm between 43mm and 39mm. It's even worse if you try to store three tubes of 43mm next to one another.

There is slightly more tolerance on the two most interior tubes and exterior tubes, but still not enough for all chips to actually rest in the tubes when 43mm are next to 43mm. The best you could do is run 43mm on the interior and exterior tubes. Alternating won't even work - you'll note the 39mm chips on the right are slightly displaced from the tube due to the 43mm chips.

In a 500ct case the best you could do is store 200 43mm chips in the inner-most and outer-most tubes. The middle tubes should be used for 39mm or smaller. These are not good candidates at all for a full 43mm set.

Thanks for the effort and the pics.

In my case, I'm looking for a case that will take a mostly 39mm set with 43mm oversize on the value chips... but this doesn't even look like a good option for that, unless I find some way to replace/reuse the "cards and dice" section of the case.

Sorry to ask if it's been posted, but do the 50-chip rows hold exactly 50, say, Paulson chips, or is there room for a couple extra chips in a row?

I have room for 50x in a row, plus 4 acrylic chip spacers (to make 5 barrels of 20 chips) for every chip set I've tried (which is Paulsons and China clays).

This can fit snug or loose depending on the chip type/thickness, quality control, etc. Since CPCs are typically thicker, I would imagine They would be snug, or may not allow for all 4 acrylic spacers.

I know, right?
I was the one who was complaining that the Versa's were sold out. I ended up buying a cheapo 500 chip case that doesn't have those decks and dice compartments. Now that the Versa's are back in stock, I'm looking at the cards and dice comparents with a scowl, and I don't think I'm gonna buy one.

I'm a big advocate of buying a 50 or 100 pack of chip spacers. Do it once, you're all set.

Depending on even plants, you can break your case stacks into 20s and 10s (I do 20/20/10 in a 50-tube), you can make cash starting stacks (12/12 or 16/16 stacks), tourney starting stacks... and whatever you set up, you can use some extra spacer to top off the tube so there's not so much wiggle room.

Short of finding another chip carrier that can fit 10 x 43mm Paulson racks (I have one, but it's otherwise occupied), I figure my end solution will be a standard chip carrier using 80-chip @T_Chan wooden racks, for 800-chip capacity. Or two 600-chip carriers, if I end up with 1000 chips in the all-43mm set.

PGI racks in a pelican-type setup. Because I'm not a birdcage guy.

As an owner of a Versa case...I highly recommend them. They are better than any other standard poker chip case out there.

Obviously taking the big camera or Home Depot cases and cutting into the padding to make them poker chip cases are better options. But in terms of a case specifically for poker chips...Versa is the way to go

I have two of these cases (1,000 chips each). One thing maybe worth noting: I converted the compartments meant to hold cards into additional chip storage. I created two additional (short) rows in each bin, using some very inexpensive black foam bought at a big-box crafts store. The foam was maybe 1/4" thick. I cut it in strips of a width which would create two new troughs for chips, then stacked a few strips up to a suitable height. I’m using these for some denominations for which I only have small quantities.

It’s possible that this might be a solution for someone wanting to fit a small number of 43mm chips in.

There are also two areas which are covered by a flat piece of material, which can be pried out with a pocket knife or the like, which similarly creates possibilities for additional storage.

I’ll try to post some pics showing what I mean when I’m back home.

See below for how to get a little more space in my Versa 1,000-chip cases, assuming you don’t want to use them to store decks. The black foam came from Joann’s Fabrics. If you wanted to dress this up more, the foam blocks could be covered in felt. I preferred these to using, say, a wood black, as it makes fitting easier.

I contemplated a bunch of different ways to do this, but this seemed to be the easiest and most effective. Cost was well under 10 bucks.

I don’t know exactly how they are tacked in, but probably some or all of the dividers could be removed to make the run longer. Would have to carefully try to remove one; I suspect they are held by small finish nails.

Another thought I just belatedly had is to cannabalize parts from old cases which dice chips are sold in... Embarrassingly, I have a bunch of those in the basement.

On my 500 Vesa case I popped out the card dividers and use a tube for the 43mm chips in my HS Cleveland tournament set. The tube fits best in the middle but also can sit in the last row without bumping chips.

FWIW, here is the brand of foam I have been using. About $2 from JoAnn Fabrics for a sheet about 9 x 12.

I cut it into strips about 7/8 or 15/16" wide, then stack them three on top of each other to make dividers. I find it best to cut them a little longer and wider on each dimension for a more snug fit.

Just removed the velvet-covered blocks from the center bays in my two cases to add room for about 4 x 25 chips per case.
