Hi everyone,

Next semester, I want to run a very professional game for my fraternity brothers and other students. We are willing to shell out a lot for a dealer table and chips.

Where should I look for tables, chips, and chairs? This won't be for another 5-6 months, so I have plenty of time to wait.

(If anyone's wondering, this is for the Beta Theta Pi chapter at a school in the Bay Area)

Should've provided more information, it'll be cash games, probably 1/2+

There are fine table makers on PCF. My custom table is from @T_Chan - Chanman Poker Tables. Perhaps not fast delivery, sometimes there is a waiting list and custom tables take time. Worth the wait IMO https://www.pokerchipforum.com/forums/chanman-poker-tables.44/

There is a wide selection of poker chip options on site. Vintage/collectable used casino chips, custom chips of all sorts and some premade stock chips that are also nice. You have time - get samples to see what you like.

If money is not <much> of an issue, the world is your oyster. So many fine options. Your fraternity will have an amazing poker lounge.

Have some fun! And post amazing pictures -=- DrStrange

Thanks! I'll reach out to T_Chan and do some more research for chips. Since our fraternity is known by a dragon, was thinking of getting ceramic lucky dragon chips.

Tables you should buy high quality to stand use and abuse. But consider the room they will take up and what they will be used for when pokers not being played on them.
Chips - we can’t emphasize this enough, especially in your environment - get customs. Security will be shit and somebody will try and sneak chips in if you are using unsecured chips.
Cards - plastic is your only option.
Chairs - screw them, get the cheapest ones you can and replace them when needed. They will fuck them up no matter what the quality or the material.

@justincarothers and his monthly buys can fix you up for most of your needs.

Thank you for this.

When I was looking around, it looks like gorillagaming is able to create the table I need with led lights and an automatic shuffler.

I will look into getting custom chips and reach out to the person you tagged.

If this is going to be a self-dealt game, I would pass on the dealer cutout.

If you go with Gorilla Gaming, the Illuminati table is highly recommended due to better sightlines.

If budget really is no issue, definitely go for the Deckmate shuffler over the Shuffletech.

ETA: I'd also skip the led lights under the rail, most players find them more annoying than useful.

There will be a dedicated dealer for my games.

I’ll definitely look at the Illuminati table. But unfortunately 7 grand is a lot for us for a shuffler, it would be better for us to get a shuffletech unless we find a used deckmate at a good price.

Where we’re setting it up has poor lighting, should I still consider not letting an led table?

Nice chairs. Search banquet chairs on fb marketplace. Even a table u can score on fb.

Buy a shuffler from @minedelta or @okku…I think they have them. But not sure…

This all depends on your budget. Sam's club or Costco fold out chairs will cost around $200 for 10 chairs. If you build your own table cup holders padded rail, lumber, surface/rail padding and folding legs ~$300. Then you got chips, get you a cheap set or nix the table buy a $170 table pad and blow the rest of the budget on some chips.

I would not start off with a $1/$2 cash game just yet. You need to work your way up to that amount. Maybe a tournament. 10 Peeps tourney minimum you will need at least 500 piece set (25-100-500-1000-5000)

Cash set you can get away with 300 piece set ($1,$5,$25, $100)

Post your budget and we can probably put together a good package for you.

Used Deckmates are usually around $4k, if that's doable Deckmate is a completely different animal from Shuffletech.

I'd definitely install dedicated over-table lighting, do not depend on the led strips as your main light source. It may help a bit with your hole cards, but it won't help at all for the board cards.

I don't know what kind of expendable income today's frat boys have laying around, but when I went to college I could barely afford the books let alone playing in a regular $1/$2 game.

Table LEDs are not going to give you the lighting you need, they're just at the wrong angle. Hang an overhead light, you can get one you can run to an outlet if you need to. Plus pool table lights add to the ambiance.

Worth checking FB marketplace for tables, I sometimes see Tritons at a 25% or more discount in very good condition.

For chips, maybe some custom ceramics? BrPro poker isnt the cheapest, but they're stateside, easy to work with, and faster than ordering from China.

I agree with the previous posters. Especially when it comes to these two points:
1. Get custom chips for security reasons.
2. Illuminate the room, not the table.
Be careful and good luck!

All deckmates are used. The dm1 should be no more than 4500 and dm2s are 5.5-7k. I havent sold here for a while hard to keep stock.

Frats can sell roids, weed, and the answers to exams to fund bankrolls. At least they did when I was in school.

Are you looking for a permanent table (doesn’t need to be moved) or one that can be folded? I have the Gutshot Gaming table with a dealer cutout that has worked amazing for my group (made by Triton but Triton doesn’t have any dealer cutout with their wheeled tables).

We had a $1/$2 game at my frat house. That was 20+ years ago. Attracted a mix of poker guys, degens, dealers (not poker), etc. We had a handbuiIt, hand me down table and metal folding chairs, cheap chips, and free beer. It wouldn't be a surprise if there are much nicer college games - something approaching the first game Mike and Worm infiltrate.

op is likely going to UC Berkeley. It's going to be a mix of rich international kids, students who interned at facebook and made $50k in a summer, and degens playing with student loan money (i've played with all 3 while i was in college).

No preference. It'll be in our basement anyway, and I think we already dedicated it to our poker room :). I would love to see some photos if you could dm them to me!

Haha, yes, I'm definitely expecting it to run bigger, maybe even 2/5+
