Help me pick out my first poker chip set (1 Viewer)

This gets asked a lot here (you can search the forum and get lots of good responses) and the stock replies will be some mix of the following:

1) what’s your budget?
2) what format are they for (cash/tourney/stakes)?
3) get samples, it’s the only way to know for sure

Based on what you posted it looks like you’re interested in the step above dice chips. When I was early in that stage (I’m sort of mid-late now), I wanted chips that I liked and that my friends also liked for when we played.

I think the best all rounder from the ones you posted is the laurel crown, which is reflected in the price. I’m partial to the nexgens after that, though they’re light and might not feel as impressive. I’d put the outlaws and phoenix close after that, and would probably not consider the remainder of the ones you listed.

Again, think about what you and your poker buddies will prioritize and that will probably be the best place to get started. Nothing wrong with a cheap slugged chip that has some impressive weight behind it. Most non-enthusiast tastes never require much more than that.

Depending on your use case and where in Canada you are, I might also be able to connect you with a cheap cash club or MRC yin yang set to get started.

Welcome to the forum.

I haven’t clicked any of your links. First comment said it best. We need more info from you first:

Budget
Cash or Tourney
Maybe how many tables you plan this set to support
Any subjective preferences you may have

Answers those questions, you’ll start to get some answers, along with “buy samples”

Buy samples. I have samples of several of those. I honestly wasn't impressed. Do you know what the shipping from Poker Store or Discount Poker to Canada is? There they have the Olympus and Outlaw sets which are really the low priced sets I recommend.

Cash and with one table

Welcome to the forum.
budget is $500-$1k and cash with one table

Get in on the Tina group buy. Post around for a bit. Make friends. With that budget you can even get a custom design from our artists. The downside is the time it takes to get your chips. Just inquire about Canadian shipping.

I would highly recommend sticking around this forum and reading as much as your brain can absorb for a couple months without buying chips. Virtually nobody will recommend any of those sets.

Sincerely, welcome to the board. I hope you stick around. Best of luck on figuring out what to buy!!

Tina hybrids are the best value. 600 of them for a 1 table cash games will cost about $500 CAD plus shipping/tax/duties/etc. through a broken Arrow group buy.

I own the Spartan version of the Outlaw chips. I'm just a casual 1/2 player that plays with friends. I'm happy with them. The price is pretty good for the amount of chips you get. I am not well versed in chips, but I personally like how they feel/sound.

If you want to splurge then the group buy seems like your best option. Broken Arrow has a lot of cool sets.

Tale as old as time, 500/1k is a not bad budget at all especially for one table cash set.

Truth is; spending significant amount on tina chips especially if it’s your first set sounds like a decision you going to regret very quickly.

Save your money, watch sales threads for a while, you can get yourself a proper Paulson set within your budget without problem.

Assuming your budget fits inside these sets listed I say order up a bunch of samples and choose what you personally think is best.

It looks like you have a ceramic chip in the mix so would also recommend checking out Br Pro @BR Pro Poker

Cash and with one table

I basically agree with Bronson above that I wouldn't start with Tina's, but if you were so inclined here's a facebook marketplace listing for a CDI web mold near enough to the GTA (not sure if that's your part of Canada) for around $0.66 CAD/chip (plus no shipping or duties): https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/4238128643129920

Should be good for most low stakes cash, especially if you want to buy both sets this guy is selling and it's exactly in your price range.

Still recommend samples.
