Gear and I are going to visit my Dad in Englewood FL. (our first visit since he moved from Rockport MA when he retired)
We will be there for two weeks in January, and I am looking for recommendations for poker playing...

1/2 NL Hold'em is about my speed, Gear could go for some mixed games around the lower limits.
Are there local casinos with cheap craps? (less than $5)

What say you?

The closest "full" casino would be Hard Rock Tampa, a Seminole casino about an hour north of Englewood. They've got slots, table games, and one of the biggest poker rooms in Florida (50-ish tables). They always run plenty of 1/2 and 2/5 NLHE. I know they offer limit, mixed games, PLO, but no clue on how often they run or stakes.

There are also dog tracks in the area that offer poker, but no casino games.

One-eyed Jacks card room at the Sarasota Kennel Club will be your closest option for poker. Very nice room with 30+ tables and good action. Let me know when you plan to be in town and maybe we can have a mini meet-up.

Another plan might be to organize a home game when you are in town - I will talk to pltrgyst and see if we can get one together.

just found a new florida gif to replace the loved/hated bugs bunny with saw gif, so with no better place to stick it...

All of the above. I'll be around for all of January...

My mom and dad retired to Englewood back in 1995. I like it down there. A few years ago a bunch of shady looking casinos opened up in strip malls around town. I never visited them and I think they were closed last year when I was down there. Some of them were bingo I think, all looked scary to me.

Thanks everyone! All advice has been logged in my little planner... When it gets closer to the time, I will ping you for a little more detail if needed. :) We have plenty of down time with no plans on the books ( gasp a REAL vacation!) so I'm sure we will just decide to go one day on a whim...and I know my pops will be bringing me to a dog track, seeing as he used to breed 'em. :)

Um, gee, thanks?
No, seriously, I'm SO saving this and adding it on my out of office while I'm away!

Glad to provide the forum! ;)
