So I love my Poker Lab table so much I’ve decided to get a second one. This one will be 58” round, to be used mainly when we don’t have a dedicated dealer and for meetups.

I’m trying to decide what to do with the rail and cupholders. I love the raised rail (and background LEDs) in my oval table, so I’m thinking I’ll do a raised rail again. I also really like the clean look of my oval table and have plenty of room for the side tables for drinks. But I think there will be less room for side tables around the round table.

So the first question is raised rail. The second question is cupholders. And if yes how many? Usually we’ll have 7ish at the table, but @Rhodeman77 had the interesting suggestion of only 6 cupholders to make it easier to deal and avoid drinks getting in the way.

So if the theory of 6 cupholders is that not everyone at the table will have drinks, what is the harm in having 8 cupholders, knowing that a couple will just be empty?

I vote no cupholders.

Please come up with a design for a center mount round table that can be easily stored (two pieces).

My children destroy everything.

Voted for 6 cup holders.

That way when you're playing 7 max dealer's choice, the last person to get stacked isn't allowed to have a drink at the table.

Thought over this and other questions on a round table I’m planning out as well. I currently have a 55 inch round right now with 8 cupholders in the racetrack and they’ve never been a problem dealing. Going with eight cupholders in the rail and 60” table on a new table. My struggle is deciding on whether to have the raised rail and lighting and how high to raise the rail. How high is the rail on the pictured poker lab table?

I LOVE the look of the raised rail and it’s very playable. Mine is 1”. I think 3/4” and 1” are the sweet spots. I went with the 1” so that the Poker Lab name and icons are clearer. 3/4” is probably a tiny bit better for playability.

That’s kind of what I was thinking. The 1” just looks so tall in pictures. As far as cupholders, I think you’re on the right track thinking an empty cupholder doesn’t take up space so you might as well get eight. Plus, it tells the players generally where to sit and it is better to have one and not need it than need it and then have somebody forced to sit with a drink in their crotch.

My 60” round has 8 cup holders in the race track. They aren’t all being used but they do take up valuable space that chips go.

In the rail is better for sure, but with 8 in the rail, there will be a lot of them and could be annoying to players that aren’t using them for drinks. Putting your forearm across a cup holder would not be as comfortable as a clean rail. With 8 it could be difficult to do that. 6 gives everyone a little more continuous rail space to rest their arms on.

True, but most people configure themselves so that does not happen. That’s why I want to go with a 60” on the new build, no race track, and holders in rail so if I have 8 they are comfortable but 7 or 6 still have room to maneuver to their liking and comfort level. All of my players usually have drinks plus are looking for some place to stash a phone to boot so less is not more for my normal game.

I vote raised rail and 8 cup holders, but, I usually prefer slide under holders. 8 in a round could mark seating spots a little better, providing your players are smart enough to actually sit with the holder where it should be.

My main concern here, though, is how do I block this guy? If everyone else is blocking him then maybe I should as well, you know, I don't want to get left behind. Fear of missing out! :)

I voted 7 cup holders for 7 handed round poker table

Apparently I’m the only one which is kind of insane to me, as it seemed like a very normal choice

First, 60” round is the way to go for self deal. I used a 60” round table for years before we moved to a dedicated dealer. I would not go any smaller.

Second, for 8 players I would do 8 cup holders. Cup holders are very helpful for centering player seats and for holding drinks (obviously). If you do less cup holders than the number of players you will have elbow problems (players elbows hitting the cup holders). That is both uncomfortable and increases the likelihood of spills. With 8 cup holders, each cup holder will be centered in front of the player, regardless of 7 or 8 (leaving a space if 7 players). With slip under cup holders u increase the likelihood that someone is gonna cut the felt or the leather. No thanks.

Third, raised rail for sure with light channel. I love my raised rail and light channel. Every table must fly the banner - poker lab!!

Just my thoughts.

Hold up ! Goldy drinks when playing poker ?

This is news to me
I just remember the bottle of water getting knocked off the table (with its cap on), and folding, lots of folding, never have I ever folded so much at a table or a session; I'm the one typically zinging it in, but playing Archie with you degens - I finally caught a glimpse of what Nit-dom feel like.

and then someone kept coming in just to poke Goldie, and try to tilt him more as his endless pocket held up until he hit a few hands and had all the chips. GLORIOUS CHIPS! (RPCs)

What about cupholders in the playing surface? @ChaosRock has a table with a raised rail and cupholders cut out into the playing surface, works very well IMO.

Edit -- Maybe that's what you meant anyways lol

That pretty much sums up my game. Some times I get all the chips some time all the chips go other places. The one constant is a VPIP high enough to get me more poker invites than work emails on any given day…….

You had moments. Sure. I’ll give you that

We all have those

But let’s be honest here. Remember we were actually there

Can I ask where you got the original table? Thanks.
