Funny, the local CO PCF group just had this discussion the other day.
Made several trips to Vegas around the Hold’em boom, then lived in Vegas 2008-2010. I miss several rooms from that era:
MGM- was a much better room when it was next to the Centrifuge lounge. Low minimum buy-in and next to the nightclub made it a magnet for tourists on the weekends. The “scenery” leaving the club was a nice bonus. It sucks now that they moved it next to the fire exit doors.
PH- another room filled with soft tourists. I had the most casino cashes for tournaments there. Cash games were good too, especially on weekends with a big event (Super Bowl, UFC or boxing fights). Right in the center of the action and again with great “scenery”.
Mirage- many others have already mentioned that room, and the perks. I just found it to be a cool, laid-back, spacious room next to the Sportsbook.
TI- It was first in the shops, away from the casino floor. Very quiet and chill. They moved it next to the sportsbook, but still was isolated, and had 10-12 tables. Cash games weren’t great, but they had good dailies. Probably had my 2nd most cashes there, behind PH.
Caesar’s- Didn’t play there much before, and they moved it while I was living there. You used to access it via a door next to the sportsbook. You went through this tiny hallway that opened up to this huge room. They had 50-60 tables. It was very classy and I just remember the large oil paintings of great sports figures (Jordan, Ali). Completely away from the casino floor with its own bathrooms. They took the space to expand the adjacent nightclub. I really should’ve played there more, and this one is probably egregious to me.
Suncoast- This was a local casino to me, when I was living there. They had about 10-12 tables in room right next to entry, so was a little isolated from the casino floor. They only offered limit, so I only went there when I wanted stay close to home, and not think too much. They had great high hand bonuses, and lots of grey hairs, spending their retirement.
Remember it being close the the entry? The Belliago motorcycle bandit actually used it as it test run. He robbed the Suncoast PR a month or 2, before he hit his big heist at Belliagio.
Man, I really miss Vegas poker from that time!
