4 of a Kind
At the risk of outing myself, I'm going to try to narrow down how my first real set will look. I'm an oceanographer who's worked in some cool places and I want my eventual table and chips to reflect the adventures now that I'm stuck at a computer analyzing the data. This thread will be following my ideas about how best to do this.
I took two deployments down to Palmer Station, Antarctica, an incredible place with some great people, to study how the ocean's water column around the continent is changing. Stuck on the ice, we played a lot of cards! I ran small poker games with the little table and chips we had, but I've been thinking about honoring those games with a proper set; if I ever win the lottery I'd happily send an extra set down South to my people. Below are some of my inspirations.
This was our little card table! Station managers realized that morale is very important when sticking 20 people in a few buildings for 6 months.
Me and Cheech had different strategies for keeping our poker faces... That little bottle in front of him wasn't water, we affectionately called it Krunk Juice, no idea what it was but you could light the fumes.
Trip down memory lane feels good! Hopefully someday in the future I can represent Palmer's amazing community with a custom set.
Unsure of the name yet; Palmer Station Poker Club, Palmer Cardroom, Antarctic Cardroom, Southern Ocean, Iceberg Lounge. Gonna roll a few around on my tongue. Please comment below if you can think of a better play on words or if one of them jumps out at you as a good name. NO PENGUINS ALLOWED. I hate those smelly entitled creatures, no joke, they're miserable animals lol.
My wife loves the (40) shades of blue so it will have atleast one beautifully light blue chip and a white one, but the rest can be more standard, I can't make them all blue sadly. Definitely has to include micro stakes. I saw some beautiful samples from BRproPoker and was blown away by the writing on the edges and the feel, I really don't think I'll have the scratch for a CPC set anytime soon so ceramics are most likely what I'll be aiming for.
