Just curious. Who here have called a substantial bet with J high because you had a feeling the other person were bluffing?

I cannot say how or give concrete reasons. But thats more than just “bad poker.”

But it also confuses me that gman asked for the money back. How does that work?

I don't think they showed that.

For the record even if we played that hand face up I still fold J high there. I just feel like if he's cheating... that's some bad cheating.

Queens twice. Batting .500. Both hands I would’ve played the same way with Jx. I had some backdoor outs on the flop, turn was a complete brick and I started to wonder if we had similar hands as both villains played similar to my style (basically, rabid monkey on bath salts).

Honestly, y’all act like you’ve never seen a really bad player before. Try playing hi lo Omaha where someone calls a turn jam with a gutter, a 9 high flush draw, and an 87 low. It happens. Some people are just fucking idiots (and many of them aren’t comfortable being confronted as fucking idiots - some turtle back into their shells and others get indignant like Robbi did).

Differing stories on what happened, was out of the spotlight. She says they brought her to a dark corridor and demanded she give the money back, he says they told her it was suspicious and seen by millions and she offered to give it back.

Giving the money back wasnt through Hustler or official, just pressure.

I can remember doing it once. But I think we were 4-handed at the time and it was with a friend who I had a ton of history with. And it probably wasn’t a huge bet - probably like 20bb.

I don't think the question posed in the title of this thread captures the gravity of how bad this call was. I answered 'yes' to the poll, but it was a very different circumstance. I had JT on a 872 rainbow flop and got into a raising war with a guy on the flop, and who I had a pretty strong read on. I put him on a straight draw as well, and since I could beat all straight draws (and since I knew how he played top two and sets, and since there were no flush draws), I was pretty sure my JT was good. I called him down and won the pot after a couple of blanks fell.

But this hand is very, very different. Not all J-high holdings are equal, and this one was one pip away from calling someone down with 8 high since the flop came out TT9. This is effectively no different from calling Garrett down with 8 high and seeing him roll over 7c6c instead. It's one pip higher than that scenario. I've played millions of hands of poker in my life. Never, have I seen a call this bad/clueless. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Robbi is pretty fucking bad at poker. But nobody is THAT bad. She's almost certainly cheating here. Someone is relaying info to her. I'd bet good money on it. This is not just a case of "shitty players make shitty calls". This is either a case of someone who A) cheating, or B) literally doesn't know how to play at all and is just taking completely random actions. But Robbi knows how to play. She's using terms like "I had blockers" and "I had a straight draw" (even though she did not). She is also paying someone for private coaching and attempting to study the game and become a supposedly serious player. She also lied about the hand later on, saying she misread it (which contradicts what she says during the hand). I think she's cheating and that she has a partner who is conveying information to her somehow.

This is no different from calling all-in with 8 high and no draw, and one card left to come.

I only remember doing it once in a tournament.

Early in the SatP main event this past April, I was playing a hand against @BootySnatcher and everybody was still very deep. IIRC he opened UTG, player in MP raised, I 4-bet, and @BootySnatcher 5-bet shoved into both of us. After the other player snap-folded, I tanked for a bit, sighed, and did the same. I showed my kings, and he showed me the aces I knew he had.

If they show that they were vulnerable and got hacked, or even worse a member of the team was bribed, it calls into question the integrity of their whole game. Ooh, ooh, I can play the folding KK game! I once folded xx on a board once in a Limit Omaha hi-lo WSOP Circuit Event on the river to one more bet. Flop and turn both went check, check, check. I bet the river, got raised, I 3-bet, villain 4-bet, I folded face up and said, "nice hand".

I don't think her willingness to pay him back the money says anything definitively either way. Especially since we believe (know?) she wasn't playing on her own money. I do believe her when she says she felt intimidated after being called away from the table though.

There are many scenarios where she could have info about Garrett's hand that simply cannot be proven, and some of which wouldn't even technically be considered cheating.

Can’t wait for the NFL “we lost so they must have cheated somehow” investigations. It’s a pretty catchy defense, easy to label a team with that moniker, harder to prove it. But proof is not needed nowadays, just innuendo.

What they never thought of is they may not even be beating the bluffing hand, sometime brain work weirdly under stress

I think I have called a few time with Q high before thinking I good, and once with 10 high because 72 game is in play but that is a totally Different scenario

She's almost certainly cheating here.

Playing devil's advocate as I don't think she cheated:

1. If there is a cheating infrastructure in place (anal beads or by whatever means) why use this opportunity which will surely create suspicion?

2. Likewise, why choose this opportunity with such thin value. She was only 54% to win on the turn. G could easily have won on the river.

After watching the hand a few times I think Robbi legit looks uncomfortable which takes acting skills. I am not sure how many people can do a good job of faking looking uncomfortable. It is probably harder than people realize.

Finally, as a bad player myself I can understand getting caught up in a raising war and making a totally stupid call. She may have a chip on her shoulder being a woman in a "mans game" and not want to let Garrett push her around or something like that in the back of her mind.

If she was cheating then she did a horrible job of it. It will be interesting if any new information comes to light.
