The $1ks started in 2006 (or earlier)........ just FYI.First time the WSOP ever hosted a $1000 buy in NLHE event and it was the only one in the series that year. $1000 got you $3000 starting stack.
Much in poker and chips has changed.

Interesting, I hadn’t ever noticed or seen a $1000 on the schedule before 09. The event I played in was #4 that year, probably stuck out more to me being at the beginning of the schedule. The $1ks started in 2006 (or earlier)........ just FYI.

Original listing of the Crystal park chips sold back in 2000. Way before my time in chipping. Prices has been pretty much steadily increasing since I got into chips in 2015. There has been multiple periods where the increased pricing has been a hot topic on the forum. Seems I was also too late though, lol...
I saw those Martini Cub chips. It is a mystique to me. I don't know much about them. I am new to the hobby. This is all relative isn’t it?
I can almost guarantee that there’s some way old school chippers here who lament about being too late because they just missed out on the original Pharaoh GB haha
Edit: for those who aren’t aware, the Paulson Pharaohs GB was how Chip Talk got started
I am listening to Matt Monro Walk Away while reading your post.Ten years from now we'll be looking back on today and remembering it as a time when you could actually pay for chips with money.
Society will be in ruins.
Kanye West is President of the free world — with @Josh Kifer as Vice President.
Miles and miles of barren wasteland is occupied by feral chippers; this is the only place they're allowed to live now.
TRK will stand for Trading Right Kidneys, as exchanging this particular body part is now the only way to obtain these chips.
A radical new law passed means that in order to purchase Paulson chips legally, you have to change your name to Paul — and sacrifice your Son to enjoy this particular brand of clay goodness.
A rack of unleaded, bike tyre RHCs for $6,000? Ahhhhh, them were the days!
Jim aka @TheChipRoom is now #1 on the FBI's Top Ten Most Wanted list.
This is what 10 years from now looks like.
Probably.
Welcome to PCF though — and happy chipping!
you heard of Matt Monro. The first song I heard of his was Were gonna change the world.I am listening to Matt Monro Walk Away while reading your post.
Best advice finding your keeper set……..collect what it is that you love and you’ll never “miss the boat,” “be late to the game” or have any regrets in this hobby.you heard of Matt Monro. The first song I heard of his was Were gonna change the world.
Sometimes the first set is Wow! until the next shiny object comes along. With me, sometimes I discard and then rebuy it. Ask Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor about that.Best advice finding your keeper set……..collect what it is that you love and you’ll never “miss the boat,” “be late to the game” or have any regrets in this hobby.
There truly is no right or wrong in what “speaks” to you when it comes to poker chips. We all have different reasons for pursuing our keeper sets, stay “true” to your own reasons and you’ll most likely always be a happy chipper.
Best on your pursuit.
I totally get it. I’ve had my “Richard Burton Liz Taylor” side of life as well.Sometimes the first set is Wow! until the next shiny object comes along. With me, sometimes I discard and then rebuy it. Ask Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor about that.
Third time a charm?I totally get it. I’ve had my “Richard Burton Liz Taylor” side of life as well.

You bought them because they appealed to you at that time. I have board games that I won't play but I like the art work. Let's use the term self-indulgence to justify what we do. I am rebuying a few NASCAR magazines from the late 90's. I just got via UPS Lucky Horseshoe chips y-day. The driver was from South London. I know this because I saw him a few days ago. I sometimes talk with parcel and mail carriers as well as bus drivers. It pays to be civil with people. At a young age, my parents encouraged me to talk to strangers.Decided to do this out of boredom and curiosity last night. I didn't realise chips used to be this cheap; these Casa fivers being my fave example...

This isn't me moaning about current prices, btw: they are what they are.
I just found it genuinely interesting to see how much things have changed in such a relatively short amount of time — crazy hobby!
Ps. I was confused, the top picture is my morning sans oatmilk & juice. That reminds me to get Utz malt & vinegar chips.

I bought those Kings Crown chips (he listed them on Chiptalk as well). They were sent to me insured and signature required. I never received the chips. The address of the person who supposedly signed for the chips was clear across town. USPS gladly denied the insurance claim, since the package had been successfully delivered according to their records. I guess it doesn't matter where they delivered it to. I did go talk to the person who supposedly signed for the package, and they denied doing so. The experience was enough to put me off from ever trying to build a set of those chips. I like to think that whoever stole them drove all the way to Vegas before figuring out the casino doesn't exist, sold the chips to Spinettis for a song, and the chips wound up back in the hands of a chipper here somewhere. Those chips were a significant expense for me back then; I can't imagine losing those chips at today's prices!Decided to do this out of boredom and curiosity last night.
