Going Back to the Start of the Classifieds for Sh*ts and Giggles... (1 Viewer)

I remember. I hated the mold then, and I hate it now. Hahahahahaha

While I don't care for the look of the paulson mold, it does (IMHO) have a pretty nice feel to it, lots of clay area. A buddy of mine has a set and they're always a pleasure to play with. Pharaohs were also made on the suits mold at one point, IIRC those came after the initial group buy (but don't quote me lol).

Agreed. Everytime I look at the CPC site I’ve wondered why the Ewing mold is only available to casinos which is similar. Anyone have any idea?
For security purposes, I'd imagine?

I believe a casino can order whatever mold they want. At least, I think that’s true?
Ahhhh, sorry, I should have elaborated. If casinos are the only ones that can order Ewings, then it doesn't leave them open to the threat of the public being able to order chips that resemble their own... Would be my guess, anyway.

Well this thread is depressing, thanks.

Soon though — soon! #MOARChipes

well this is slightly disappointing being brand new, but also makes me curious what 10 years from now looks like.
Don't worry, I'm kind of a pessimist by nature, but in 10 years I doubt you'll see any leaded THC chips around. RHC's will be abundant and RPC chips will be yesterday's news as two more group buys will have taken place by then.

Mark it 8, dude.

Ten years from now we'll be looking back on today and remembering it as a time when you could actually pay for chips with money.

Society will be in ruins.

Kanye West is President of the free world — with @Josh Kifer as Vice President.

Miles and miles of barren wasteland is occupied by feral chippers; this is the only place they're allowed to live now.

TRK will stand for Trading Right Kidneys, as exchanging this particular body part is now the only way to obtain these chips.

A radical new law passed means that in order to purchase Paulson chips legally, you have to change your name to Paul — and sacrifice your Son to enjoy this particular brand of clay goodness.

A rack of unleaded, bike tyre RHCs for $6,000? Ahhhhh, them were the days!

Jim aka @TheChipRoom is now #1 on the FBI's Top Ten Most Wanted list.

This is what 10 years from now looks like.

Probably.

Welcome to PCF though — and happy chipping!

This post wins today IMO. Sadly you might just be correct.

thanks for the warm welcome. I’m glad to be on board one more hobby to throw money at. cheers

@Josh Kifer will be Secretary of Interior… whose interior? We will see.

I actually think the stimulus checks did raise prices for chips.

Everyone was flush with cash and bored during the pandemic.

All hobbies and collections spiked…reason being….

1) spring and summer vacations were cancelled (everyone got refunds)

2) tax refunds hit

3) you couldn’t eat out and people saved a ton of money cooking at home

4) stimulus checks

Why did they mention this upcoming April? NAGB? Or tax refunds increase chip sales?

*** only thing I see lowering prices if Paulson came out with new fantasy lineups, if that happens, boat chip prices would really go down, older fantasy chips go down and casino collection chips may go up?

I've had 10+ votes the last few Idaho Elections to make me the AG. Someday it's gonna work out....

Did you just apologize to yourself for the self derail? That's so Meta....
And when you do it, we call it Myah-ta!

These are the chips that got me into this hobby. Wish I had bought more but then again, I never bought any chips expecting them to become an investment.
Originally just wanted a nice casino quality chip for my home game. Had no idea that my poker journey would lead me into such an interesting hobby with such passion.
Well stated Matt, this is very much how I feel, too, and how I stumbled into this hobby. I just looked back to see when I bought some of my first clay chips for my home game, and saw it was in early 2013 when I bought some Paulson Terribles $1s & $5s. (I had Nexgen plastic non-denominated chips before that)

This always make me a little sick to my stomach that I didn’t buy more… part of my order from June 2012. Jim offered the Terribles St Joe $5s for 39 CENTS!! Fracs and $1s both 99 cents
Awesome! Thanks for this reference -- I don't think I ever quite knew that the original Terribles chip sale was around June 2012, because I missed it, and I think I got started in this hobby and starting going on Chiptalk website sometime in early 2013, I think.

Everyone just let this sink in -- so the Chip Room had a sale of Terribles chips in June 2012. Around 7 to 9 months later, either they didn't sell out or still had inventory up for sale. Because in early 2013, I bought 2 to 3 racks of mint Terribles $1s & $5s for around $0.59 to $0.69/chip, I think. And...those mint Terribles had been posted on eBay and the Chip Room website at this price for weeks or months and had not sold out at those prices.

I also bought (what I think was the last) 80 $25 secondary chips were slightly more expensive -- at $1.19/chip. I remember thinking I was crazy for paying $1.19 a chip for poker chips, but I think it was the last of the Terribles $25s, and I needed some $25s to go with my $1s and $5s, so it all evened out for cost per chip in the end.

Here is a photo of the $1, $5, and $25 Terribles chips I bought from the ChipRoom in early 2013. (Note, the other chips pictured were purchased later -- the $100s, $500s, and 50 cent chips.)

Where are the 500s?? Didn’t you get some from me a couple years back?

And ya I remember placing 3-4 Terribles orders over multiple months… insanity
