It looks like we have an issue and I'm just sick about it. We only had 600 new $2 chips, 1700 new $2.50 chips and 3300 new $1 chips. After filling todays orders and printing some orders for tomorrow, I can already tell we are going to be over those totals. I have had issues with PayPal before, where they allowed more items than I had in inventory to be sold. I have my wife double check the inventory with me before every sale, as I am very sensitive to this previous problem. How I normally fill orders, because I allow combining orders, is I go through all of the orders and combine shipments and print off those packing slips so I can keep a tally of the shipping refunds. Those were all of the orders that shipped today. Since those orders shipped already, I have now way to tell there time stamps in the entire process. I will begin shipping the remaining orders based on time stamps. It will impossible for to contact everyone directly whose order was affected. I will substitute used chips for new chips and put a similar note in each package. If you receive used chips and the note, please email me at the email address on the note. If you are acceptable with the used chips, I will issue a refund for the difference and pay for your shipping. If you do not like the chips and would like a partial or full cancellation, we will be glad to accommodate you.

I am very sorry for this issue. I wish I would have noticed this earlier, so I could have filled based on time stamps. I have already reached out to PayPal and I have my daughter setting me up with a Shopify account. We will have a new inventory management system in place before our next sale. I can't apologize enough for the trouble. I'm sure I won't be getting any sleep. Please do not PM me to find out if your order was effected. I will be extremely busy filling orders for the next couple of days.

Sorry you are dealing with this Jim. I can’t imagine the amount of work you put in to these from start to finish. I’m sure everyone appreciates the chips you bring to the community. Thanks again for all you do.
 
Guess we all look at things differently, I will keep quiet but still think that system worked well and ways around the issues of sending reminders, give everyone a time slot for example, don't get it in the next person is going and you forfeit your spot... back of the line, no reminders needed... after all of the "good chips" are gone open it up for public orders for the less in demand chips, you can still require the percentage system and for the orders to be large to get the good chips. Not my business just speaking out loud, something to think about I guess.

It's definitely an option, just seems like it would take way more time /work than what Jim usually does. Obviously something needs to change since it's not the first time this PayPal issue happens though, so I guess it's good to share ideas. I might not remember correctly, but I have a feeling @navels said after the sale that it took way more effort and time than he was expecting, and that he might not do it that way again? (might be wrong, so I'm sorry if this is not accurate).

And to play devils advocate, with international members and different time zones, people should be allowed to take some time to reply. If some of the in demand chips are gone since the last order, the next order needs to be recalculated before it can be placed. If there are several people included in many miniGBs for each spot which I assume there would be, as it was like that in the Isabel sale, it would take a lot of time and back and forth. We would definitely also see people paying for a chance to be in one of the first groups, bringing flipping to a new level. Lol...

I agree fast clicking and luck of the draw is not the ideal world, but there are not many better alternatives to be honest. Many have been tried and suggested after previous Chiproom sales, but in the end this PayPal system has always seemed to be the best fit when all is said and done.
 
How can PayPal allow people to buy more than the inventory the seller inputs? That’s absurd
Because the time lapse. Hundreds orders all at 2pm makes for multiple orders at once (system overload) and the system cant keep up so slip ups happen.
Edit: also probably why some of us recieved a glitch that all items were sold out before 2:01, because it couldn't handle the amount of incoming orders it kicked back everything until it could.

I honestly think these sales would benefit from Tommy's point system he spoke of previously. I like Navels sale and could see the pros of that, but I also know Jim probably doesn't have as much time as needed to invest in that. In an ideal world sure, and if I lived locally I would offer to help him with sorting and tending orders in that format (as I'm sure other members who live local to him have)
I do still think he needs to raise his prices, there's nothing saying they can't be reduced say after 24 hours, 48 hours, a week, until things sell out. But I think it would change the dynamics of the race. Either way folks will complain, right now the prices are fair/low but the purchase process is a complaint. Raise the prices folks will be unhappy but the purchase process will change some. Really there's 100 ways to do it, and none of them are necessarily the perfect way. At the end of the day I'm just glad to see chips come to the forum/market rather than be destroyed. At least those of us that miss have a chance at them recirculating later as other new things come in

I’ve been on sneaker/merch/ticket/you name it drops with 1000x the volume of Chip Room sales lmfao. I have a hard time buying that if it’s a volume/time issue, the site lets you buy more instead of crashing

if it’s happened before (sounds like it has) and it’s truly a PayPal problem, Jim Hs to get the hell off PayPal
 
If ticket/clothing/any other fire sale website can manage it when there’s tens of thousands of people trying to get something that sells out in seconds PayPal should be able to as well right? That’s what the 2-3 second pause is after you try and submit your order and before it allows you to click through.
 
No technology is perfect, and I don't have all the answers. Someone wanna call PayPal and ask?
 
I have no idea what PayPal did. I went through all of the order, the earliest time stamp was at 12:00:32 and they were still allowing sales of new chips at 12:04. I didn't start receiving my confirmation emails for about 5 minutes after the sale, which was definitely unusual. I know some people were receiving sold out notifications within the 1st minute, but other orders were allowed to go through. I went through all my settings with PayPal and they were all correct. They said the system shouldn't have allowed the sales to go through....but they did. They were going to check with people in programming, but I doubt anything will come of it, same song and dance as before. The $2 chips, no one will hardly notice the difference between new and used. The snappers are a little more used and the $1s even more so. I will reach out to the international customers affected before shipping, due to shipping and customs. We have over 290 orders.

We sent out over 60 orders yesterday. Some of the people would have received the new chips, but it appears most would not. This is our fault. Normally, this is never an issue, when the inventory function works correctly. Combining order is a bit of a logistical issue, but we don't mind doing it to help you save shipping costs.

Again, I can't apologize enough for the trouble. We pride ourselves on our customer service and transparency. We appreciate everyone for their loyal business over the years. We will work very hard to make sure this never happens again. Please be patient during this process.

Your customer service is top notch. I cant imagine how challenging this is for you. Thank you for the transparency and I hope you can find something that wont fail you like this one did.

This is a bewildering statement. I don't understand how anyone involved in the chip world would write this.

I mean, of all things, people notice new vs used. There's always a difference.

No offense, this isn't a transaction from friend to friend. Regardless if PayPal is at fault or not, these are business to customer transactions.

I mean, if I ordered something from Best Buy and I got sent an open box item I'd be super pissed. I don't care if a third party involved f'ed up. Not my problem and I wouldn't want it to be my problem.

Hmm... I bought zero chips but rather than all this craziness wouldn't it be easier to set it up like @navels did where everyone draws a number and let people put their orders in by the number they drew? You control the inventory and the speed of the orders. Also it's not the guy with the fastest fingers scrambling to get their orders in literally in seconds.

It seems like there were many teams working together to try and fill peoples needs and work within the order restrictions, many parts of that equation didn't work out. Many people were getting chunks from multiple orders and half of those orders did not even make it in, and just seems like a big mess.

With the lottery draw system all of this would be resolved. Basically the inventory would be updated as orders came in so the next group of buyers would know what is still available and how to build their orders based off of that info. I understand everyone does things a little differently but the Ysabel Sale went really well from my understanding so only mentioning this to try and help for the future rather than complain about the past.

I agree Ben. Why do people who have lives, kids, and life responsibilities, be left out? That's what happens.

I can't click fast enough, my internet wasn't fast, my power went out. It's pretty ridiculous if you ask me the reasons good chippers miss out. I'm all for the lottery. At least a person can feel they got an even shot.

I do my own thing by sitting them out. Won't support the click race to glory. Not like it matters. The majority are happy with how it is. I get it Jim can't make time for the lottery system.
 
Look on the bright side, if it’s PayPal’s screw up then it’s a testament to who we are as chippers

we managed to do in <300 orders what 100,000 Dead Heads trying to get into MSG never did lmfao—break PayPal’s programming

A system where nobody knows if they can buy something and Jim doesn’t know if people are going to honor a commitment, much less what they are going to buy. Sounds primo.

Well, you would return it. Same here. And it's not just business to consumer. Jim creates all these rules in part to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to buy. It's not the end of the world, but in an effort to be egalitarian, he created a giant mess.

Best buy, to take your example, charges the highest prices for the newest items. Then, when the people who are seeking to pay the most have purchased the items, they drop the price. All this could have been avoided here if Jim did the same. But if he charged $5 each for the snappers, I bet the same people would be complaining.

Socialism doesn't work any better than capitalism. In capitalism, at least the chips would go to where they are valued the most.

I truly respect everyone's opinions and ideas, but maybe the discussion around sale-methods should be taken elsewhere while the main issue at hand gets sorted out.
What’s there to sort out? You either got screwed or you got what you paid for, there’s no real in between here

what is there to sort out except for “how does this not happen again?”

What I meant is that the $2 used chips are barely used. In the image, the used chips are on the right. I will still be refunding the difference between new and used and you have the option of returning for a refund. I am in no way trying to offer the used chips as new.

I only ordered $5s and $25s because I was led to believe that I was buying new $1s and new $2.50s.

If I get neither new $1s nor new snappers, I assume I’ll be able to return the whole order? Literally only ordered them for the $1s and snappers lol

If I am receiving new chips and shouldn't be just let me know and I will send them back to you so you can give them to the person that should have them.

As you're blissfully unaware, returns in this case are very costly for folks internationally. Things like taxes and duties are a very large factor.

In any case, it sounds like Jim is going to reach out to international folks beforehand so 'just return it' is moot.

So potentially with max 2000 chip orders only 6 people could end up with new $2 chips and 5 people with new $1s. Why not disclose the numbers ahead of time to help align expectations or to help people plan?

I guess this is the way it’s always been but don’t understand what benefit it provides to Jim or PCF.

Doing so may have created an even bigger frenzy? Knowing that such limited numbers of chips are available individuals could have bought excessively more than they actually need?

Jim did state that new primary chips were very limited supply

I know Jim has some of those IOC fracs hanging about in a metal filing cabinet..... those’ll do lol oh and some IOC snappers and $100’s and medium coffee double double and don’t stiff me on giving me Folgers in my cup.... should wipe me tears away.
