That one was VERY dry. However, we are learning that we prefer Malbecs from Argentina over most other wines.

They are such good value, too. I much prefer Argentina over Chile (in general).

I've had some really nice carmeneres from Chile.

We're not cab s drinkers, so I can't speak to those.

(Well, most of the time. We just finished a really nice cab blended with around 20% petit verdot with dinner...)

Jadot is nice! I remember picking up a 10 year old bottle of Chardonnay for dirt cheap (that had been forgotten in the back of a bin) at the local liquor store where I had my first professional job post-graduation. Kinda like picking up two racks of mint Starbursts for $50.

I guess 1974 Naoussa PDO (pure Xinomavro) by Boutari.
It was still young in 1981 and myself a little older (1969 vintage).
This bottle can still be found at just 85E, which may be a steal.

- Earliest vintages ever: 1957 and 1959 Ch. Cheval Blanc.

- Oldest at time of drinking: 1978 Ch. La Lagune, last of a case bought in 1983, drunk in 2020 -- 42 years after harvest. Still excellent.

- Oldest currently on hand: 1976 Windsor Vineyards, Sonoma -- bottled on July 4, 1976. The last bottle we tried was absolutely horrendous, so I wouldn't expect this one to be drinkable:

I didn't really start learning about wine until the early-to-mid 90's, so the oldest wine I've probably ever drank was 1985 or so. Probably a Tuscan, because when I started with reds they were all Italian.

On our honeymoon in Italy (1999), we went to a Tuscan winery called Castello di Verrazzano. Picked up two bottles of their Chianti Classico 1989. Popped one within a few years, popped the other on our 15th anniversary (25 years in the bottle by then). It tasted great!

I have some 2011 and 2016 Lilian Ladouys.

Always a good bargain at Costco, and a lovely wine that has been on the softer side, being a St Estephe. Came very, very close to popping one this past weekend.
