Bitcoin has its own thread and I wanted to open a thread specifically to discuss Ethereum. I am a fan of both however from my perspective ETH has more potential for growth as bitcoin has already had quite a run. I am looking to make a sizeable purchase once the price dips back down to around $1,200 USD.

@johnjohn
@wuffle

What do we think about ETH over the next 1-5 years?

Personally more bullish on ETH than BTC. With more L2 solutions, ETH2 in 1-2 years, defi taking off (getting several mentions from Mark Cuban too).

There are also many things that you can do on Ethereum with defi too - generating >10% yield depending on your risk appetite

However, it is still possible that there will be a >50% price correction.

Yeah this is kind of how I feel. I view ETH as having more upside in the next 12 months. Both are near their ATH which leads me to not want to buy. I am waiting for a big sell off/price correction before making a large purchase. @wuffle please keep the thread informed on your thoughts :)

BTC is limited in use and its limited quantity is what will drive it price up.. I think BTC will always have a higher price then ETH, but not value.

Ethereum is a complete platform and most defi is being built on it. i always support ethereum over BTC . LOVE ETH!!!! HMMM poker chips with crypto logos, might have to put some thought into this one.

Now dont forget about grants that will get you airdropped some erc20 tokens...last grant i supported got me some uniswap i think it was 77 tokens airdropped. I will also admit i supported social coin, what a big thud

But dam the gas prices are killing me!!!!

CME ETH Futures launch was mostly a non-event. With the Tesla news today, I am more bullish than not at the moment.

With Dogecoin pumping over the last 24 hours, we might see new capital into crypto that will flow into BTC/ETH/others

I pulled the trigger for a substantial ETH holding (for me). Planning to hold till at least the end of the year and see where we are. Hoping the MOON meme people are right :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:

If you don’t mind me asking, what exchange did you use and how do plan to store it?

I’m thinking of doing a similar purchase... but pretty new to all this. Opened an account with Bitbuy, but haven’t funded it yet.

Bank e transfer -> ShakePay App -> Trezor Hardware Wallet.

I hope you are doing well. Drop me a line if you want help or want to discuss crypto :)

Couple questions:

Anyone recommend a specific hardware wallet?
Anyone dabble in Defi and have a good learning resource?
Same with NFTs. Best way to learn? Particularly interested in non-art related applications.

I personally keep all my on coin specific wallet, meaning on a hard drive off line duplicated and storaed seperatly...extreme i know so here is a start
from 99 bitcoins

for defi:

NFTs

As i said this is a start to get your mind stretched and warmedup, then i would go read specific groups yourlooking into white papers.

Hope this helps

Well, I jumped. I'm starting with some ETH first, I ended up just using Coinbase after watching the Crypto Casey Beginners video....
I like the Vault option they use for securing the coin better...I will probably buy a hardware wallet soon, but wanted to start getting in on things...
Thanks for all of the helpful tips @Lemonzest @TeamNapoli and others!

I like Trezor. Software is all open source. Ledger recently had a customer data breach. Ledger also isnt open source.

I think this would make it a hard no for most crypto enthusiasts. Not your keys, not your coins:

Can I transfer Cryptocurrency into and out of PayPal?
Currently, you can only hold the Cryptocurrency that you buy on PayPal in your account. Additionally, the Cryptocurrency in your account cannot be transferred to other accounts on or off PayPal.

if you looking to do it as simple as possible just use coinbase.. at least this allows you to go on coinbase pro exchange if you later choose to...
later you can get your cold wallet and transfer to it, i would wait for the gas price to drop before i transfer right now its a killer

even though its a good sign paypal and later they plan on venmo crypto payments ...they are doing it wrong (greedy) and basically just want their customers swinging crypto between paypal network accounts while they keep it it in their liquidity pool and make interest on it

Allow me to mention this .....

Please Please do not look for the cheapest prices when\if buying a Ledger or Trezor. no eBay no amazon third part seller. Buy it directly from the company.

I am not saying all third party people are crooks but it would take nothing for me to open the box copy all the secret codes reseal it and resell it. Later i can get a new wallet use your secret words and rebuild your wallet and drain it.

I was looking at Trezor over the weekend on amazon. They have an official store - is that safe? The official site is overseas and uses a payment processor that I'm not familiar with.

Also interesting - I checked Friday and added it to my cart. By Saturday it said no longer available. Demand must be high.
