Storage of all your chips (4 Viewers)

i like to keep my chips in the dark when in storage because i noticed that the inlays of the chips i had in a display near the window got ternished and yellowed bythe sun.

How many chips can you fit in the 1520?

@MaxB said his 1520 case fit n=1,500 comfortably (see pics in Post #9). His case has a fixed piece of foam. I bought the pick-and-pluck foam that you can customize, which should arrive by the end of next week, and will update with my findings. It sounds like a great travel solution.

Thanks, I must have missed the info/pics in post #9.

It does seem like a great travel solution to keep the chips safe and secure.

I don't have a shelf but I have this and I'm putting it up in the classifieds for what I paid for it...

I have a much larger similar case (Tiger Maple) for the Dunes high denomination / tourney set. I'll try to post pics of that tonight.

Yes, 15 racks can fit nicely, with plenty of foam around the sides as well as the bottom and top pieces. Enough room for oversized chips as well on the top level.

Does that have wheels? I hope so.

Nope...but it only weighs 33lbs, so it's easy enough to carry

For very short distances only. Something to consider before making the purchase for those who haven't. I have 800+ of my chips in a pelican case and thats in the 20b range. I walked several blocks to a friends house with it once and it wasn't ideal. If it's house->car, car->house then these are a great way to secure a mobile set.

Empty shelves are great excuses to buy chips to fill them! Will post some pics shortly. The 1520 case has arrived (i.e., The Pelican Has Landed!)

100 year old glass-front barrister bookcase, picked up at the Brimfield Antiques Show this summer in Massachusetts. Not yet chock-full-o-chips, but soon.

Still working on filling it...now the entire 2,400-chip Riverside set has moved into its new home. Empress tourney set is trying out the shelf below, but I've run out of standard racks so plastic boxes will have to make do.

And those 6 racks of bluebirds only seen edge-on? Dead mint.

Riversides breakdown:

160 x .25c
240 x $1
1800 x $5
160 x $25
40 x $100

Pics of the Pelican 1520 Case, perfect for very safe transport and storage of easily 1,500 chips. The case has "pick-and-pluck" foam, which is a lattice of foam pieces approximately 1cm x 1cm x 5cm that are lighted tacked together by a separate-able adhesive. There is a fixed outside border of foam that is solid around the entire case perimeter. You simply remove the foam in the shape you want to hold the racks and other items. The chip racks fit three racks high and are held in place tightly by removing a minimum of the foam.

Here is the overall case's size. It has two sturdy front latches that take some real force to open. It also has two front holes, if you want to use a padlock.

The racks fit 3 high. I removed the foam to fit a few racks of oversized chips.

Here is a picture of the pick-and-pluck foam "lattice" The two rectangular sections on the right are blocks of 4 total pieces. I kept the removed foam mostly together so I can reinsert it if needed.

Lastly, here's the filled case. I will get a different foam piece to cover the oversized $100s, and have the cards sit on top. Once the lid is closed, nothing moves during transport.

Merry Christmas!

@inca911, Awesome case! You might try using the front of your case for cards, stowed upright? Here's my Pelican case, with spots plucked for cards, cash wallet, cut-cards, dealer buttons, etc... These cases are amazing and versatile.

Wins the internet with that one...

However, I have questions... I'm assuming that leaves a lot of dead space behind the wall...? This might be used as a means to create custom built-ins?

I like the idea of a shallow built in shelf above the chair rail, maybe 6" deep. However, you have a hidden hinge and the entire built-in shelf can swing outwards to access hidden storage behind (in the dead space). Sounds a little complicated, but considering your chair rail hidden shelf, I think the built-in idea might be a breeze. :)

Thanks. Yes, about 3 feet by 6 feet of storage area behind.

I like the idea of storage above. I've never done a hidden storage hinged door before, but researched it and it seems very doable. Might take me 10 tries since I'm pretty anal about fit and finish:D

Doing a swing out shelf might be a challenge, as the deeper the shelf, the more problems you'll face with clearances. You could do a really shallow shelf, or you just put a picture (on a hinge), and then have storage drawers behind it. Like these cabinet drawers I installed:
