Hey everyone!
Got introduced to the forum from @Hobbyphilic's YouTube videos while doing research on what set of chips to get that are a step up from the basic chips I was gifted 15 years ago. What I thought would be a quick 20 minute trip turned into a nearly 3 day deep dive into videos and research lol.

Looking forward to learning as much as I can about chips, as well as poker in general!

This place will do that to you. What kind of chips are you looking for? Do you have a set budget?

Oh, and welcome onboard!

I think I like ceramics, but I have some samples coming my way to make sure. I've got some scrolls coming, but I absolutely love the Tiki Kings. Problem is they are way over my budget, which is around 140-200 bucks.

Welcome to PCF.

So you came in looking to upgrade from basic chips. I'm curious where your brain is at now...what are you looking at?

Agreed Wedge! Welcome to the forum... we all window shop and by now you have most likely been looking around. Always curious if anything has caught your eye yet? Days worth of reserch invested in chips, would like to know after that amount of time where you feel like you are or the direction moving forward? Custom Ceramics... straight into casino used clay? Custom clay from CPC.... lots of options.

We are all chip donkeys and love discussing chips. Also cash game/stakes, tourney/number of players. Like everyone says before hitting the diving board buy samples and feel free to share your opinions! Most of all enjoy your chipping journey!!!

About how many chips do you need? How many players and do you guys play cash or tourney.

I remember buying our first house. We told the realtor what we wanted to spend. We bought 18% over that price.

When people say there chip budget is $140-$200, I feel alot like our realtor probably did when we told her our budget for our first house...
I remember before joining... doing the math look at some of the Apache sets going... jesus they aren't that much but if I need this many... that's going to be like $280 FOR ONE SET OF CHIPS!!! that is insane. Now $400 barrels and $600 racks I don't even really think about... just pay my tab. This really can be a sick hobby!! Haha

Welcome to the FUN house!

I remember a little over 4 months ago when joined, that was my budget too. Then I kept looking at the chips others were buying, and all the options I never knew existed. During the first month I bought quite a few samples. Probably over spent my original budget just on various samples and supplies. I recommend you NOT rush into buying a set at that price point until you've handled quite a few chips and are sure you will be happy with them. There are lots of nice chips that are pretty inexpensive, but there's a good chance you're going to want to try and bump up the budget, at least a little. Maybe a lot once you've seen all the variety available.

Welcome, I have almost the same story as you and still can’t decide, but I find that to be a good thing since there are more options than I originally thought.

oh god, dont tell me that! hahaha the same thing happened with me and cigars. I thought, oh this will be cool, i enjoy them lets get some entry level cigars and.... oh shit there goes a couple hundred on bundles.

I'm thinking about 400 or so. I priced out Scrolls on pokerchipmania, by just buying barrels vs complete sets (whatdya know, its cheaper to get barrels! haha) and got it to about 140 bucks following this chip guide. Im just starting up a home tournament game among friends, this coming Thursday is my first run with 5 players including myself. T1000 starting stack with no re-buys. Hopefully it goes well and I can start hosting more regular, and then eventually bigger games.

You won't need 400 chips for a 5 player T1K freeze out tournament. Even 200 would be enough.

300 chips is plenty for a t10000 1 table tournament.

Also scrolls are mass produced in China and can be hit or miss depending on the batch. You can get custom ceramics made in China for between 30-35 cents per chip shipped for 300-400 chips You could get a 300 piece set of custom ceramics shipped for under 200 easy and probably a 400 piece set. I was looking at 500 for just over 200 before I bumped it to 1k chips

oh for sure I won't need them now, just planning for the future. I'm hoping that this little get together goes well enough that I can start to expand.

If you ever have a seat open...and are looking for a guest set to make an appearance...I may know a guy. :whistling:
