WTF!
I'll leave out details until I get to talk with my buyer, but he's a long timer and I'm sure we're both victims here.
I got 7 mailers today, mostly singles from eBay, so I just started cutting them open. When I got to this one, and cut it open to find it empty, my heart sunk, because I figured, based on the size of the envelope it wasn't a single chip.
And the envelope had clearly been cut open and retaped, but at first sight, I assumed the seller had just re-used an envelope - I do that all the time.
What's my next step - do I contact the PO or does the seller?

Oh and it’s not the end of the world. It was a trade - I was receiving 14 chips, I think, probably worth $30-$40 total, at the most.
But it sucks.

There’s people more well versed than I in it but my guess is if it was sealed still and the goods weren’t damaged it’s going to be a very uphill battle if there wasn’t any insurance on it. I had a case where 100% USPS damaged the chips in transit but I didn’t have any insurance on it so they told me to go row a one paddled canoe

Every mail loss I've had was when I reused an envelope. It seems those are a target for theft.

Edit sorry that happened to you
I don't know that it was. Haven't heard back from my seller yet.
This pisses me off, just for it's idiocy. If you want to steal shit, try shoplifting. Shoplifters aren't even being prosecuted in Boston, currently (I shit you not, and this policy was instituted well before the virus.) But stealing from the US Mail? I'm pretty sure that can get you 20 years.

Sorry to see that happen to you.

As a counter point, and perhaps a ray of sunshine, this package was delivered, and sat on the unattended counter in my apartment building lobby, for a week. Note that almost all of the address label, and one whole side of the package, was missing. All five chips, however, were there. Go figure.

Had a similar incident last year -- 50 chips in a small flat rate box, packed like a solid brick and sealed on all sides with clear packing tape.

The only way to open the package would be to use a knife or razor to cut it open.

When it did not arrive, my customer reached out to me. Several days later, I received a large USPS window envelope with a letter that said the box was found inside the sorting facility in Philadelphia, "separated from its contents."

It was straight up theft inside the facility. I reported it to the Postal Inspection Service.

I sent a new package to the customer.

I've been hoarding chips like mad during lockdown. So far, all delivered (about 500 more in the mail right now). I can't even imagine a shipment like ysabel $2s going missing.

Like, ok, if they lost some custom DDLMs, I can get those remade. But the unique ones going missing breaks my heart. And those that are obviously stolen? Well.... there's a place somewhere in Dice Chip Hell for those monsters.

Yep. Been there. Sold and shipped 2 racks last year and the package just disappeared. I do a lot of shipping and buying, and the only problems I've had have been related to poker chips. It's super suspicious.

I almost aways offer to pay for UPS shipping when buying chips these days. (By the way, I look forward to someday being able to do that on here).

UPS has a flat rate service too. It's slightly more expensive than USPS, but it's worth it.

If for no other reason, use UPS so you can track the shipments.

Beyond that, I just have more confidence in people hired by a business to perform their jobs to the best of their ability, than I do government employees. There's just more incentive on the commercial side of things.

Can you explain the difference between the two services? Thanks
UPS goes by the volume of your package, rather than boxes that you buy from them. So you still have to measure the boxes but you don’t have to weigh them. Once you know the volume, you choose xs, s, m, l, or xl flat rate and after that you select either ground, 3 day select, or 2 day air and you print a label. I think they may also sell flat rate boxes, but I’m not sure about that.

I only recall one time where I've had a similar issue with USPS.

Several months ago, I bought 1000 inexpensive Chipcos from a reliable chipper. He shipped 1000 in an MFRB, and I received about 650. There was a big wad of plastic wrap where the remaining chips should have been.

We were both surprised and annoyed by it. The seller made things right with me and went after USPS for the $50 insurance (which luckily was about the value of the loss).

These are the chips that were stolen. Resorts international THC $1s. 14 of them. If you see them offered on eBay, please call in the national guard. If you have a single to sell me, (assuming you’re not the dirty thief) please PM.

I coincidentally have 14 err I mean some for sale. PM sent.

Sorry for your loss

I was sure I had an extra one of these, but I looked and it has thin blue edgespots...is this a secondary?

Dunno. Some of them definitely exist on a horrific AC house mold. I haven’t noticed any with blue spots, but I haven’t been looking for those.

I wonder where those get unloaded / fenced? eBay? Craigslist?

So USPS sucks.

I ordered couple KEM setups from @pokerplayingpisces. Everything went perfectly smooth between us.

He sent me a copy of the tracking receipt on Tuesday . Plugged it in and said they would arrive yesterday (Friday.). Yay.

Thursday I get notice it will be a late delivery but by 8:00 pm. No biggie. 8:00 comes and goes.

Check the usps site. Last tracking history was 10 minutes after he dropped them off at his PO.

About 11:00 last night I get a message the package has arrived in Seattle. So took 3 days to go from Colorado to Seattle. And no new delivery date given.

So i figure maybe next Friday they will make it to Kentucky. LOL.

My brother works for USPS call center and there is theft from employees and more so packages that were “never delivered” meaning buyer said they didn’t receive goods when they did. It’s a crazy world we live in but it’s not always the employees either. Just keeping it real
