Zombie Trip Report: Shootout at the Post V (2 Viewers)

I think Scarney played well, but I wonder if it should be dropped from rotation when down to the final 3. I know @detroitdad will run a circus tournament in June, so this information will be useful for his event as well.

As someone who has ran many variations of mixed game/split-pot type tournaments, it is my experience that once play reaches heads-up, the games being played are best converted to a non split-pot version, or adding a qualifier to one or both sides. Continuing to play split-pot games once heads-up can sometimes take hours to finish.

Depending on the game(s) being played, simply removing the low split aspect works well, or if a multi-game format, selecting a non split-pot game to be played until event completion allows the event to finish in a timely fashion.

Below are good options for heads-up changes for a few common circus games:
  • Scarney: 5 or fewer points qualifier to win Low, otherwise high hand scoops
  • Shodugi: true 4-card Badugi qualifier to win Badugi half, otherwise best Hold'em hand scoops
  • Dramaha: Trips or better qualifier to win either half, else best hand (Omaha or Draw) scoops
  • SOHE: Trips or better qualifier to win either half, else best hand (Omaha or Hold'em) scoops
  • Double-Board: single best hand (either board) scoops
  • Scrotum, Omaha (any variant), other hi/lo games: no low, best high hand wins

Fascist.

I'm in that same boat. I am also a really .. passionate.. about how smoothly the game runs. Once you get players in the middle seats who don't pay attention, don't push pots, and never know what is going on, it bugs me. Once out, I figured I could help make the game more "efficient". I don't mind tooting my own horn, but I deal pretty well. I shuffle very fast as well, even though I always passed the shuffle. If it wasn't shuffled, I scooped it back up and did it. I made a few mistakes dealing, but at that point, I had been working on 6.5 hours of sleep through the 3 days. I was exhausted. My table most likely did see a few more hands per orbit than others, but I know they weren't complaining at all.

All in all, I think I made about $120 dealing the tournament and the cash game afterwards. I was very thankful for everyone's generosity !!

Mark, I share your interest in a smooth running table. You're an excellent dealer and I'm thrilled when you're at my table. Luckily that happens fairly regularly. Your efforts are always appreciated!!

Good options!

But whatever you do, *don't* do what some BARGE satellite meetups do, which is to to take a thoroughly enjoyable mixed-game tourney and play the entire final table at hold'em. That just plain sucks. :vomit:

Are you saying that I suck at poker, bust out of tournaments way too early, and end up dealing ... because, well, that is spot on

That was how I read it too. Lol. But I agree you are a fantastic dealer.

I'd also like to suggest that when a tournament like the Rodeo gets past 1 or 2 am the blinds change to doubling every level. I got invested in finding out who won and ended up dealing for hours.... until 4:20 am. WAAAAY past my bedtime.

I put it closer to 100.

Chapter 4: What Meetups are all about.

The People

Yes, I may miss some in this list, and for that I'm sorry. I'm sure I met people but was too sleepy or so involved with what was going on that my 51 year old brain just misfiled the memory as a dream. But the parts of reality that I do remember...

@Mr Tree : I'm just going to say Thank You. If I broke down the reasons, it would be a full chapter unto itself. Thank You

@Anthony Martino : If Anthony is always on in real life, they way he is at a meetup, I'd bet good money his local casino dealers smile when they see him walk in. He just keeps the energy at a high level all evening, takes far more jabs than he deals out, and is just a likable fellow. I find it nearly impossible to believe he's the same guy I once blocked (when he ran under a different screen name) back on the Blue Wall. He's not short, he's fun concentrate.

@Mrs Poker Zombie : My Right-hand and external brain in Tournament direction. Also, turns a profit at the tables so I don't have to. Also understands chip collecting and meetups. Basically, I win.

@Redbelly : It's always good to see Sean again. Just a remarkably pleasant gentleman while constantly leaking chips. Hopefully, we will all get the chance to play on the Redbelly chipset someday.

@krafticus : I wish I could deal as well as he did. I wish I could deal while drinking like he did. Basically, I wish I was Krafty, but with hair.

@ChaosRock : The Bubbs were just fantastic! So frequently, customs downplay the frac, the one chip that gets into play every hand. The "bubble gum" chip (or as I call it the Bubbslegum chip) is fantastic. Also, kudos in the new body... stay healthy my friend.

@flipupchipup : Fascist! Thanks for shooting me, that sealed one of my many wins. Hey, I'm a Zombie... getting shot is OK sometimes.

@courage, and @H|Q : Gamers. I'll bet that there are more poker/gamer crossovers than I expected, but I'm not surprised. It was great to see you two once again and discuss games. I'd like to see more of these fun games at future meetups.

@BGinGA : Always a pleasure. Once again, we found ourselves at the same table, bullets on the line. You should have called. :cautious:

@k9dr : Mark is always a good guy. I wish I could follow his example and get around to the different tables, but I always seem to fail. He has the meetup thing figured out.

@Ben : We played at the same table, and I finished up. That is one for the record books. Sure, it was only for about 30 minutes of play, but I'm counting it.

@Jonesey07 : I'm glad to be able to count Mike as one of the Zombie regulars. He is a great assist to any tournament director, but does it in a very quiet and humble way that I don't think anyone would notice.

I noticed.

@Forty4 , @Schmendr1ck , @kirchhausen , @Gobbs , @ni9n3r , @ssanel54 : Together you made up some fine tables. I lost a little and laughed a lot. It was a good time, and all are welcome if you are ever in Nashville.

@gopherblue : We only really talked briefly, but it was a good conversation. It would have been better if you brought some extra TRKs to splash the pots with, but the bagels were good too.

@bentax1978 , @Jeff , @Shleepytine, @AfterTheFact , @PhilLaFond , @Supahnit, @TroyMan ,@trever , @georgiakurt ,
@DNeyer , @Chris La Mantia: Old faces and new, I only briefly had the chance to talk to any of you. Therefore it is safe to assume that my minimal losses were a direct result of not sitting at the same table for any length of time. It will be good to see each of you at future meetups... from another table.

I'm really sad that your missing my meet up

I still have to make a trip to Michigan this summer. Once I have some possible dates, I will confer with you via PM and figure out days and times that will work with your schedule. If I'm driving all the way to Michigan, I'm visiting you.
