They just announced on PokerGo that due to the record 4,571 players in flight 1C today that they ran out of starting stack chips and were forced give out stacks with $25,000 chips. Amazing!
Can't blame this one on star chips.
I just figured all the extra entrants this year were people who had an extra ten grand in their pocket after raffling a couple racks of boat chips.I heard from a buddy of mine that more people were entering the Main Event because the chips were not compromised by the boat chip venture.![]()

Excuse my ignorance, but what are the starting stacks, and opening blinds for the WSOP?
8/8/2/8/8 starting stacks

Pretty hard to play with T400 antes when there less than 20 T100 chips on the table. Sigh, rookie TD mistakes.....Looks like they are still running low on some denoms. This was posted 3 hours ago.View attachment 185219
Those damn boat chips strike again!Looks like they are still running low on some denoms. This was posted 3 hours ago.
There is no way that they are burning through 3.3 million in the 7 days of the main event when the staff is already being covered.
...or Dollar Shave ClubAnd that doesn't even take in to account the ESPN and PokerGo money...
By my calculations, the total rake was 6%.I've said it before...
The WSOP doesn't care about an optimal playing experience. They are selling you a dream.
For the accountants out there...
The WSOP pulled 3.3 million in rake from the Main Event alone. This does not count 1.4 million in additional rake from the Main Event for dealers and staff.
At what point does someone spin-off the WSOP into it's own profitable entity? There is no way that they are burning through 3.3 million in the 7 days of the main event when the staff is already being covered.
No, but fixed-rake events (vs a percentage rake) are much more equitable for players (regardless of game -- poker, backgammon, bridge, whatever) when the entry fees starting getting so large that 'standard' rake percentages generate numbers that are totally out of whack with actual expenses plus a reasonable profit.By my calculations, the total rake was 6%.
I'd be thrilled to play in any tournment where the rake was only 6% - that's less than half of what I'm used to.
You think this should be a not-for-profit event?
If the beers are comped, I could beat that with a deep run.Even at 6%, one could argue that it's not a very good deal for players if they aren't getting $600 worth of value out of the withheld amount.
If the beers are comped, I could beat thatwith a deep runif I made it to Day 2.
That would seem to be enough to cover the purchase of a few more chips to adequately handle the needs of the actual field size, just sayin'.....The WSOP pulled 3.3 million in rake from the Main Event alone. This does not count 1.4 million in additional rake from the Main Event for dealers and staff.
