Went to a game at a friend's neighbor. I am the new guy, so I'm not inclined to complain much... But I sit down, and discover all my chips are WHITE!?!

quite possibly the worst set of chips I've ever played with. I'd much rather have had the dreaded dice chips. Seriously. I couldn't easily tell which chips were which when stacked..

The host explained to me during the night that these chips were clay, and that he'd looked for a long time online before deciding on these.. I wanted to say, ya didn't look long enough, lol... But I bit my tongue! Nice host, great game, crappy chips (oh, and a 70" wooden round table that cards wouldn't slide on)..

Wanted to take colored sharpies and color the edges... Figured that might be bad poker etiquette?

I just played a game at some guys house for the first time 2 weekends ago with those exact same chips! Everyone was like "oh these are nice chips, good weight to them, I like the hologram shiny labels, etc. I wanted to gouge my eyes out. They were horrible looking and so heavy!

Only think worse, worse, is a camo table, with camo chips... Lol

I feel ya, Tri. I guess it's a matter of education or perhaps just priorities. We put a lot of time, effort and money into building and buying chipsets, tables, cards, etc. All the good stuff... Because we CARE. Some people don't really care or are just ignorant of the good stuff. I admit I can be a chip snob sometimes when it comes to playing with the really cheapo stuff. It's so frustrating to try to pick up a pot with abs chips that won't stack and just slide all over. OCD is kicking in.. I digress.

Hey King,

I am new to the forums, but am bringing a new perspective than I seem to see on the forums so far. It isn't just about caring. I am 100% sure that you care about all your investments. But some people, while they may care about poker, simply can't afford the good stuff. I have been playing poker for about 12 years now. I am neither ignorant about the good stuff, nor do I own any really good things that I personally bought. To me, it is about the game. I love the game, and will play any way I can. After 12 years, I considered upgrading my amazing dice poker chips (which is part of why I joined this forum). The dice chips really are amazing, though...not because they are the best chips, but because they are within my budget and allow me to play the game I love. When I have played in a casino, I am in heaven using their chips. They just feel right in your hands. But even now, it is a costly investment, and one that I will have a hard time making.

I am not trying to say you are wrong for caring about the good stuff and not wanting to use the cheap stuff. But don't just assume that people who don't own good stuff don't care about or don't know about the game and its accessories. I would love to own a full set of decommissioned Paulson casino chips. And in the future, I am guessing I will have the financial ability to own them, but for now, I am happy enough to be able to play with whatever cards, chips, tables, and friends I can find that appreciate the game like I do. I may have to settle for just collecting single chips for now to display--some of the displays other forum members have put together for their chip collections are really amazing, and a single chip is a much cheaper investment.

And King, I am not trying to single you out--this comment is really just a general comment. I have read similar comments from others, but yours was a reply to a thread I commented in, so I saw the response in my email. What I don't see anyone sharing my view on the boards, so I wanted to put it out there. I am hoping this doesn't offend you, as it certainly isn't the intention. I just feel as though I needed to defend myself in light of the many comments with similar tones.

On a lighter note, while I, at this time in my life, could not buy a $400 poker table (I have a dining room table to works just fine!), I did just win a $400 poker table top from BBO poker tables. It it not a full table with a base, though I may make one so that it can stand alone. But it is a high quality table top with speed cloth, leather rail, etc. So while I am in the process of building a nice set of Paulsons, I at least have a nice table to use in the mean time.

Sorry for the lengthy response, and I look forward to getting to know you all a bit better through the forums.

I loooved my nexgens. The prettiest slugged chips for someone on a budget.

Nexgens got me into chips; sort of. In 2008, I think, I went to play at the "other" cardroom (at the time there were two main cardrooms near town, and I always went to one). My usual room had custom ceramics (they were YUK!) The other room had labelled Nexgen Bees!! They felt all soft in a rubbery way, and I loved them. I immediately shopped around online and ordered a set of Nexgen "Las Vegas Nevada" chips from Discount Casino Gear, and they were absolutely nothing like the chips from the cardroom. Then I did some more research and found CT.

I hosted a tourney a few years back with my long sold PCR's. A guest complained that they were "cheap" chips cuz they were to light...........I was going to politely correct him when several of my regulars chimed in with a few choice words, lol.

Dice chips get too much stick, imo. They are cheap, serviceable chips that come in sufficient colours to avoid the optic AIDS that the OP's pic induces. Are they as nice as a set of Vineyards? Hell no. But, for folks who do not share our sickness, they get the job done.

This should not be construed as some sort of paean to the Dice chip, as I think most of us would sooner hack off an arm than go back to playing with them. But we are a minority.

You wrote well Sir. And congratulations for the table win. Sounds awesome :)

I just got up off the ground from the seizure this pic caused...

Okay, after looking at those, I don't think I will ever complain again about all the chips in a set having the same white edge spots. The reverse is infinitely worse.

Our cash game usually plays with Pharoah's China Clay 100s for $1 and 500s for $5 and have been using Empress $25 Paulsons as the quarters. I recently parted with my Empress chips and had no quarters until my $25 China Clays arrived from Florida. That week we used the classic White with Blue edge spots dice chip as quarters. It wasn't as painful as it seems. Twas kinda fund shuffling these clanky ol' slugged chips again. Nostalgic.

Not even remotely worse... The problem with the chips I posted about, is you can't tell them apart. This is completely aside from the fact they're plastic. The chips you linked have crosshatching, and you can tell them apart. Win! :)

I can agree to that...You WIN..
